  1. What dates and times is the Laanecoorie bash this year?
  2. Well done. Hope theres a bigger one nearby for ya.
  3. What a lovely reason to want to look for gold. I'm in Aus so can't help with advice on where to look but browse the forums, do lots of research and if you need to attend a good club to pick some brains. I have taken my children out lots over the years and even built and used a cradle for a while creating many lovely memories. They don't always stay looking for gold, but they find their own fun in the bush. My ten year old spends hours looking for bits of china and old bottles and also loves looking for crystal quartz in the dirt. Enjoy
  4. Reg,, Twice in a lifetime.....exciting times ahead for you.......again. Chris
  5. So to ensure we are getting 100% forwards ground coverage with a ROUND DD, would it be fair to say you would need to move forward by a third of a coil diameter (sweeping over a target 3 times in the forward movement) or could you move forward by half or even three quarters of the diameter?
  6. Does this mean you currently have another "unfair advantage" Reg??
  7. Interesting thoughts on the coils fellas. Chatted with the Detech bloke in Daisy Hill the other day and he told me the 15 inch DD flatwound spiral coil will punch 200mm deeper than a conventional 18DD. Not sure if it was sales talk or not but if one was chasing big gold with DD coils then that claim is food for thought. 200mm is a fair margin...
  8. When I first looked through this album about 6 months ago I swore I knew Ian's face but couldn't place it for days. Then I remembered I met him back in 1994 when he owned the Logan pub. I was rousying in the Avoca Forest shearing shed and we would walk down to the pub for a drink (I'm a strict non drinker now). I was about 19 and crazy about gold prospecting and I remember looking at the photos of nice nuggets on the pub wall and asking Ian if he did any detecting. With a quiet smile he said something like 'Yeah, a bit' but didn't elaborate. Ian would remember a couple of brothers who shore at that shed, Colin and Graham. Colin was a detectorer too but was tight lipped about how well he did, at least with me.
  9. Reg, Its heartwarming to see blokes like yourself giving up their time, at no charge, to help others out. Good to see in today's fast eroding society! I hope ya find that 100+ ouncer! Chrisco
  10. Donald Parker...now there's a name I havn't heard in a long time! I spent a little time prospecting with him and another friend back in the late nineties. Donald could find gold up a tree if it was there. A very very good detectorer!
