  1. Yes I did, and , it did quite well for a large coil with so much iron debris everywhere. It was hitting pieces of percussion caps, which, I thought was very impressive. I found 2 dragoon buttons with it.
  2. Had a pretty good day using the Equinox 800 and the 6-inch coil at a fort that was occupied from 1851 to 1862. My settings were ...Park 2 and Field 2.... Recovery speed 5....Iron bias 0....2 tones....no disc....22 sens... Tone break from-9 to +8.
  3. I haven't really had a problem with glare since I've been using the zagg invisi-shields
  4. I had the 6" for the CTX but sold it once I got the 6" for the Equinox. The Equinox with the 6" coil out performed the CTX with the 6" hands down at the same site. I did not see a reason the keep the CTX 6" coil. The 6" is like a laser beam in heavy trash and will isolate good targets with no problems.
  5. I got my 15" coil yesterday just in time for a planned hunt today at a fort dating back to 1851. The morning started off slow because I deviated from my plan and I kinda just wandered around for the first 3 hours without much to show for it. Around noon I finally went to spot and started gridding like I normally do and it started to pay off. The normal stuff began to come to light, percussion caps, lead, trouser buttons and a few odds and ends. At the end off the day I scored my first ever Dragoon button and within 20 minutes or so, hit my second!! I did manage a 3rd button, but I don't have a positive ID yet. It looks to be a one piece, which I believe predates the Dragoons. My take on the coil..... I found that I was hitting as small of items as I have with the 11" coil at this site which was impressive! The weight's not that bad, I kept the coil close to my feet and was able to swing it for 7 1/2 hours before switching over to the 11" I think If I would have stopped for lunch, I could have swung it the entire time. The extra coverage was a much needed bonus at this place as it's huge and the sensitivity to small items was icing on the cake. I'll probably use the 15" coil here more often than not as it performed wonderfully. My settings.... Park 2 15" coil 2-tones 6-recovery 0-iron bias 0-ground balnace 22-sensitivity Tone break -9 to +8 I tried running a recovery speed of 4, but, due to amount of junk I'd hit with each swing, I bumped it up to 6 which seemed to work just fine.
  6. Ok..I used the Nox for about 7 months and then went back to my CTX, but, during that time I never ran straight 5Khz. I just started hunting again with an 800 and decided to experiment with single frequency settings. What is interesting is that multi will not register the tabs in the ground at depth on the ones I cross checked. One thing I didn't mention, all that did this were the round tabs, not the rectangular ones that usually read higher than round in my ground.
  7. That's correct Mark. First, I have that range disc'd out completely, second the VDI's are hitting almost double what they normally read when running in 5Khz......This same thing has happened over a dozen times so far.
  8. I've been playing around with running 5Khz just to see if maybe I'd get a hit on some deep copper or silver in an old zoo that's finally playing out. The first time I did this I got 5-6 nice repeatable hits in a spot that I have beat to death with the CTX. All targets were deep and hitting in the mid 20's, every one was a ring tab. I had my disc set from -9 to +18, which made didn't make sense that I was getting a hit on the tab. Every one of them that I checked out of the hole would not register a positive signal. The second time I tried the same setup, 5 Khz, same disc settings, I decided to test the hits in multi IQ, nothing, not a peep. When I went back to 5Khz, there they were, loud and clear, same targets, ring tabs. I was thinking to myself, that, possibly, I might get a hit on some deep nickles running 5Khz without having to listen to all the mid tones. Well, today, I do the same thing, only this time, I had just made a pass with the CTX over this spot and didn't get a good repeatable signal. Low and behold, I get a solid 28-32 both ways and dig a 6" plug and out pops a nickle ? At first I'm thinking its a war nickle due to the high numbers, but, nope, just a plain Jefferson. I pass the coil over it, nothing, not a peep, notta. Any idea's as to what's going on here, I don't think it's a bad thing, just a bit weird I thought.
  9. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. My hunting buddy and I were wondering how it would do in the iron that's at this place, thanks for the info!!
  10. I'm not sure where to start, I had an epic day that I never thought I'd see. There are some things you never figure you'll dig and when you least expect it.... BAM!!! I met up with a fellow hunter to do a little relic hunting at a old fort site. His day started off with an 1846 Mexican 1/4 reale and then an awesome button, which he ended up finding 2 of. I started off with the usual lead and percussion caps and finally a 1846 Mexican reale as well. I was having a frustrating start with my wireless earbuds cutting out and the other pair not working at all. I tried using wired earbuds on the Equinox, but kept pulling them out almost everytime I set my machine down. Jimmy let me use his ML80's and that helped me settle down and get some serious hunting done. Jimmy ended up leaving after a few hours and I told him I was going to hunt for another hour and then head to the house. My goal was to at least find a couple of nice buttons to make a day of it, little did I know the fun was about to begin within the next 30 minutes. I worked my way around to the other side of where we had parked, and started finding more lead and a few more percussion caps. I got a screaming 25-26 hit on the Nox, I dug down about 8" and figured I had hit a can or something. I covered the hole, but, thought to myself..... that could be a buckle. I redug the hole and finally pried out a top of an old aluminum can. About 15 minutes later I get an almost identical signal, 25-27, but, when I pinpointed it sounded different. My thought was I was digging a silver coin at depth, so....I was quite a bit more careful with this hole. Almost 8" down I pop out a huge round thing it didn't register what it was until I picked it up and felt the weight. Then it hit me......no freaking possible way!!! I saw the back first, then turned it over, the front had about a 1/4" of dirt caked on it, I carefully rubbed it and there it was My first Union breatplate, something I only dreamed of finding and now there it was in my hand Thank God I didn't dig it like I had dug the other target, no dig marks on either side. Jimmy had found a US buckle a couple of years before, now, I had me a breastplate, something I never thought I dig.
  11. We hunted for 7 hours, I had to leave because my battery died. I brought Nox as a backup for the CTX and didn't bother to charge the battery because I hadn't planned on using it ? That will not be the case next time ? And yes, we dug a ton of holes.
  12. I'm more of a coin guy, but, I've been wanting to hit this spot because my buddy has taken out a couple of Dragoon buttons. I met up with a couple of guys today for a relic hunt at a fort that was occupied from the early 1850's to the early 1860's, unfortunately one guy had to cut his hunt short due to a plumbing problem. He did manage to score a couple of nice relics before he had to head out. I started out using the CTX, but, due to the excessive amount of iron, I ended up using the Equinox which performed wonderfully. This was my first time to hunt here, so, I wasn't sure what to expect, but, it turned out better than I thought. Ended up with a nice assortment of finds, the better ones were the Eagle button and the medallion thing with the guys face on it. Not sure, but, we think it may have had a ribbon attached through the eyelets on each side. I believe next time I'm back, I'll use the 6" coil on the Eqhinox to try and work through the iron a little easier than the 11" I'm also going to take a magnet, some of the bits of wire and iron were almost too small for me to see without my glasses. I was amazed at how well the 800 hit the small items among the iron debris. 90% of the targets hit between 10 and 15, a couple rang higher, the brass rivets and the 3 ringer hit between 18-22. The thing with the guy on it hit at 10-11 solid. My setting were as follows: Park 2 2-tones Tone break at +8 thru 40 Sensitivity 22 Recover 7 Iron bias 0 Ground balance 0 No disc used ran it wide open
  13. I use the stock coil on the CTX and the Equinox. I'm not saying the CTX is deeper than the Equinox, it's just that I have used the CTX longer and have learned what the at coins at depth sound and act like on it. It's more of a confidence thing than perhaps actual performance due to the fact I haven't developed an ear for the deeper coin behaviors with the Nox.
  14. Hunting deep old coins, the CTX is hard to beat at ID'ing at depth.
  15. I started off last year running the 800 until about Sept. and went back to the CTX until this week. I picked up a 600 and a 6" for hunting trashy sites instead of struggling with the CTX. I plan on using the CTX for my deep trolling and the Nox in the water and in the trash. I went to a WW1/WW2 dump site we've been hunting on and off for the last month, this place is loaded with iron and other debris you'd find at a dump. I set the Nox on Park 1, 2-tone, tone break at 18 with the volume off from -9 to 18, recovery speed set to 3 and iron bias at 0. I'm sure I missed some stuff in the lower range, but, time was an issue and I knew what I wanted to find, The 600 and the 6" coil worked exactly as I hoped and I started finding desirable targets from the beginning and until it was time to head home. I was able to find some nice relics with a couple of coins, a merc and a wheaty to top off the day. Thanks for looking.
  16. Welcome Cory, where are you located? Going by your name, are you in Las Cruses, NM? If you are, my hunting buddy lives there and hunts with a Equinox 800 if you want to see one in action. Again, welcome to the forum.
  17. Get a hold of Jeff Here, I just bought one from him and it's exactly what your looking for.
  18. I was fortunate enough to find a 15x12 coil last week and jumped on it. I got it yesterday and plan on taking it to a couple of place where I was digging 8-9" silver and wheats, but, the spots finally played out. I also came across a post on Findmall before it was deleted by the mods because it mentioned a guy's product who wasn't a paid sponsor. He posted about his upgraded armrest by Jeff Herke, glad I saw it when I did. I got mine yesterday as well and this thing is sweet. He put a lot of thought into and the quality shows. Since it's aluminum, your able to adjust it to suit your clothing or just your arm. I also ended up getting one of Steve's lower rods which I'll mount my big coil on for it's maiden voyage. Here's a couple of pics.
  19. I'm in the process of moving to Texas and will be very close to Lake Travis. I need to add to my gear a decent sand scoop for fresh water hunting, can someone recommend one that won't break the bank. I'm not sure what type of soil/sand/dirt I'm going to encounter, so, I may have to wait until I get over there later this month, thanks.
  20. I hit a couple more permissions on the street I've been working for the last week and half. They did not fail to produce enough finds to keep the hunt interesting all day long. I was using my 800, which made it back from Minelab in 11 days after needing to be replaced. To be honest, I couldn't tell a bit of difference from it and the 600 I was using while the 800 was being replaced. The Nox was made for this type of hunting, tone break ability along with being able to adjust the tones to make the higher conductors really jump out. Couple that with being able to swing relatively fast and still hear the good stuff makes this machine a permission slayer. The permissions have been good to me this month, 1 Walker...3 Washington quarters....11 Rosies....75 Wheats I'm able to cover the yards twice in different directions in less time than I could if I was swinging the FBS machines. Anyway, I'm absolutely sold on the machine ? My settings: Sensitivity....18-20 Recovery speed.....6 Iron Bias.....0 2 Tones Ground Balance....0 Tone Break at 21 Pitch....-9 to 21 Pitch at 1 22+ Pitch set to 25 Full Volume on both tones
  21. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zagg-HD-High-Def-Screen-shield-for-Amazon-Kindle-Fire-HD-8-9/262700676576?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I use these and cut them to fit the entire face plate, virtually scratch proof. It'll protect the buttons and all for $10
  22. Thank you Andy! The worst thing that can happen is they so no, you simply move on to the next one, more often than not, they say yes. People are more open than you may realize. My motto is: "nothing ventured, nothing gained" Sometimes the permissions absolutely suck, but, the ones that produce just energize your drive to get another one.
