Thanks for the heads up Dan. Mine has been up into the 90s with no problem but not seen over 100 yet - will soon however.

    Operating Temperature Range.... -10°C to +50°C (+14°F to +122°F)
    Storage Temperature Range....... -20°C to +50°C (-4°F to +122°F)
    Charging Temperature Range..... 0°C to +40°C (+32°F to +104°F)

With cover on and at 100 degrees plus direct sunlight I can see it easily getting over the rated 122F max operating temperature.

After it cooled down, I was unable to adjust the iron bias setting. I did a factory reset and that took care of the issue.

  2.  I was hunting today with a rain/dust cover on the Nox, in 100-101 degree temps with the sun directly overhead. After 20 minutes my audio starts cutting out and sounding erratic. I notice my screen is looking bizarre, as you can see, every icon was lit up and there was no way to see a VDI at all. My first thought was the cover was acting like a greenhouse and causing the housing to overheat. After about 10-15 minutes of taking it off, things began to look normal once again, within 30 minutes, completely back to normal. I have a Zagg cover on the screen, so, no dust cover for my machine during the summer months.

I haven't been able to hunt with my Nox 800 much in the last 8 weeks and only hunted with it a few times when I first got it. So I'm sitting on the sidelines until we get the house ready to sell. What is the consensus on high conductors, Park 1 or 2? Since many out there are getting in the field much more than I, what's your experience on deep silver and copper?  If this has been answered before, a link to the thread would be appreciated, thanks..

I went outside for my air test and away from all metal and EMI as I could and propped up a 4' tall cardboard box without any bar codes or magnetic strips of any kind and here are the results:

    1. clad Kennedy half @ 4" TID bouncing all over from 11-31, worse @ 5" & nothing at 6"
    2. silver quarter @ 4" bouncing from 13-29, worse @ 5" and nothing @ 6"
    3. common Jefferson nickel @ 4"  a steady 14 on TID @ 5" becoming unstable
    4.  mercury dime @ 4" bouncing from 14-25, @ 5" next to nothing
    5.  copper memorial penny @ 4" steady 25 TID,  @ 5" 15-21 TID, @ 6" nothing
    6. circular beaver-tail pull tab @ 4" steady 15-16, @ 5" 14-15, @ 6" next to nothing

A few days ago, when things were working well, I dug a clad quarter @ 10".

    Thanks for the help.

    What are your settings?

Steve, does the gold monster use the same middle shaft as well as the lower shaft? Thanks.

I went back and reread what you had written Steve. I understand now what you were saying. I guess I got a little too excited thinking that we had a answer to the lower rod situation. Thanks for the clarification.

    Hi all!

I know this has been discussed before, and I think I recall someone noting that the X-Terra rod outside diameter is a tiny bit smaller than the Equinox.  But what I'm wondering is if one of the X-Terra lower rods can be "rigged" to work with the Equinox.  If it is JUST the OD of the rod that is too small, perhaps a wrap of tape or something may take care of that, as long as the spring clip is compatible, and as long as the lower rod piece, where the coil ears attach, would be a similar "width" so as to fit properly between the coil ears.

It doesn't have to be "perfect;" my thought is that with the 6" coils becoming available fairly soon, but NOT the rods, perhaps an X-Terra rod could limp me through, for awhile, with some minor modifications?

    Has anyone tried one?

    Steve

One guy used a rod from the Excal, some addition information says this set up isn't the best.

The detector has a 4 point connection to match the usb cable. My wm08 only has a 2 point connection (and 2 holes). Is this correct or is it defective? I appreciate the help.

No it's not, the other 2 on the machine are the USB connectors if there ever is an update needed.

  8. I was going to wait until the 6" coil came out to hunt this spot. My buddy and I decided to go ahead and take our Nox's out and give it whirl anyways. This is one of the most iron polluted places I've hunt with the Nox and it did very well considering we had the 11" coil where you really need a much smaller coil. This was my buddy's second outing with the Nox and he actually did a great job adapting to it under the circumstances. I was running Park 1, 2 tones, recovery speed 7, iron bias 0, tone break set from -9 to +8 with low tones assigned to this bin, high tones from +9 and up. Ground balance set to 0, sensitivity set at 18. I was using a new pair of APTX earbuds that was more than fast enough with no lag at all.

This machine is unreal in the iron, I had zero problem with the iron giving false signals, which I think it had to do with the iron on or near the surface and the soil was bone dry. It may be a different story if I ever hunt it after a good rain. Even though there was a nonstop barrage of low tones, when I did hit a digable target there was no doubt about it. I was surprised at how well the Nox hit with consistent VDI's, not that I was going by the numbers, but, it was rather impressive anyway. My buddy and I both noticed that we were digging deeper hits with the Nox than we did with the Etrac or the CTX in this spot.

I received a list of Equinox accessories that I could order from my dealer several days ago..

The 6” Coil list price was $179.00 plus $10.00 for the skid Plate..  11” Coil is $229.00 +$18 for the skid..

    Waterproof Headphone 3.5mm Conn. $149.00

Many other accessories available for order too. Headphones, adapters, chargers etc.

Do you mind if I ask who your dealer is? I just called my dealer and he hasn't heard a word yet. I hope they get on the ball in short order and get this thing going.

Do you have a picture off the applied screen protector?

I wonder how those things come off if they need to... On the screen it'll come off no problems, but on the foil surrounding the screen and the buttons..

This was cut from a scrap piece I had left over from putting some on the CTX, I'll replace it sometime soon with the full pieces I just bought, but, it's not an issue since I also use the Deno's cover. Pealing the Zagg off is no issue, I've done it a couple of times before without any problems.

The battery is only warrantied for 1 year (12 months) , from the date of purchase and if you change it yourself...beware! Please read Minelab's email to customers on Feb 21, 2018. Here is an extract:

"We at Minelab stand behind both the ingenuity as well as the quality of our products. For clarity, The EQUINOX control box and coils are covered under warranty for a period of 3 years (36 months) from the date of purchase. The Lithium-ion battery contained in the handle is replaceable and is also covered under warranty for a period of 1 year (12 months) from the date of purchase. Minelab recommends using an Authorized Service Centre (ASC) for battery replacement to avoid potentially damaging the waterproof seal during replacement, which could void the 3-year detector warranty."

I've had my battery out a couple of times taking pictures, I have to say, you'd almost have to go out of your way to screw the seals up. But, I'm sure someone could find a way to damage them if they weren't paying attention to how the pod goes back in.

On the 800 the backlight is pretty blinding if night hunting, I like the Zagg idea Dan, but am thinking about using some of my red film on the screen.  Hmm...maybe do the Zagg first and then make removable red film cover out of one of the multitudes of multi-language screen covers Minelab included.

So you put the Zagg cover over the factory screen cover and the buttons?

That was the original plan, but I screwed up the Minelab cover in the process. And yes, I covered the entire face plate with the Zagg. The Nox faceplate was easier to cut a template for than the CTX or the Etrac.

  13. I picked these up this past week for my Equinox from E-bay for $5.99 for a pack of 3.  The size is perfect for the Nox, simply cut to fit and a great way to add extra protection to the entire face of the 800 or 600. I've been using the Invisible-Shields for the last 3 years, they work like a champ, almost completely scratch proof. These are a very inexpensive way to save your screen and touchpad from getting jacked up. I thought I'd pass this along.
