I'm hoping the Manticore IS an Equinox 900, only better.   The only downside I can see is the lack of the 6" coil.  Typical of Minelab the problem comes down to coils, always seems to.  The tide is turning and as competition heats up even further there is a possibly they'll come to regret this coil chipping rigmarole.  If it wasn't for that we'd likely have had Nel coils and possibly other brands for our Noxes by now.

I spoke to Debbie from Minelab at an event in Texas in Feb about coils for the Nox...."we are not in the coil making business" ..... Yea, no kidding!!

Talked to two of the distributors today. They are only receiving 7 each. So 14 units between 250 USA dealers. Not looking like too many will get them in time for Christmas.

Wow...very disappointing!!!  Looks like the Manticore took a backseat to the Nox 700-900's in production.  This is what you get when you try to release 3 new machines at once..

Well there you have it, new revised Equinox like expected, it will be interesting to see how they've handled the issues with the path they've taken especially with the coils ears.

I don't want either an Equinox 700 or 900.  I'm set on the Manticore.

I'm with you, that explains the price reductions.

Well first ever post on here, have learnt heaps by reading etc.

I have just returned home with my New Manticore.

Probably one of the first but i am in the same State as Minelab In Australia.

Just letting People know they are on the move :). Hopefully of to the beach tonight.

Good for you on getting one, is there a manual in the box?

  5. I used the ML80 headphones maybe twice with my Equinox. The sound quality in my opinion was lacking. I use the WM08 99.% of the time. I have been unable to find any Bluetooth LE transmitter-receivers or BLE wireless earbuds on the market so far. I am hoping that by springtime some affordable BLE products will hit the market. I live in Central Texas, by spring it gets way too hot for over the year headphones.

Remember that Minelab headphone poll we all took a while back?.... I guess not enough people answered ear buds. That is disappointing. If Minelab doesn't market Manticore compatible ear buds, that could be a deal breaker for Summer use. 🙄

I'm thinking I'm gonna have in invest in a Garrett Z-Link, Minelab Pro-Sonic or a Detecnicks   wireless set-up. I use earbuds almost 99% of the time these days, it would have been nice to have a factory wireless module, boo on Minelab.

  7. Tom D. posted this last night.....

"A little more data that I can share:

None of the bluetooth/wireless stuff from EQX will work on the Manticore. This sounds terrible/disappointing ........ BUT:
The new next-Gen bluetooth/wireless system on Manticore presents:
    1. Even lower latency.
    2. Even lower EMI.
    3. Better audible clarity.

This could not be achieved with the EQX bluetooth system."

  8. There's no fixing to it, they will replace the control pod with a new one. From what I've read, they are out of 800 pods right now with no ETA available. I'd take the pod off the handle and get it ready to ship to the repair center on PA. I'd be calling Minelab customer service until I got hold of someone that will give you a RA# I went thru this process 4 times in the last 4.5 years. The reason I said to ship only the pod is to save on shipping which you'll have to pay. On the plus side, since it's still under warranty, it'll be a free replacement. Good luck and really sorry to hear what happened.

Yep.  They clarified that over their previous marketing statement.  Glad they got their story straight now.  But still, all we know is that it has a bigger battery than Equinox (7 hour charge time) because their new marketing statement doesn't clearly state how the 50% more power is used vs. Equinox (transmit power, processing power or simply its need to keep the lights on as it has a lot of lights (backlight, keypad light, flashlight)).  Other than they also allude to It being connected to Multi-IQ+.

But yeah, all that is great stuff on paper.  Can't wait to see how it performs in the field, in the hands of competent detectorists.

It looks like the  part of 50% must be in the transmit power according to a statement Tom made.  ....... "IF you could figure out a way to wire a EQX coil to the new Manticore...... the Manticore would blow/burn it out. Soooo...... coils are NOT interchangeable. (There's also other reasons for incompatibility).
The coil has tighter tolerances....and more stuff in it; hence, soooo........it must be built heavier-duty. The extra 2 heli-arc'd fore-aft curved ribs are not very hydrodynamic; yet, are a necessity."
