Iron Filter And Stability Settings
Tometusns replied to HerrUU's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
I use the factory default iron filter setting and I'm very happy with it. I did try lowering it to some of the recommended settings but all I did was dig more nails and iron. I just can't buy in to the "You're gonna miss targets hiding in the iron unless you lower the iron filter setting". I've found more coins hiding in iron with the factory default iron filter setting than any machine I've ever owned. So to answer your question " why would you lower a setting so that the separation between ferrous and nonferrous becomes less clear " I don't. Good luck with how ever you decide to set the iron filter. -
The Open Minded Detectorist?
Tometusns replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
GB, I've given up on trying to explain or believe that I know the reason why things sound like they do. I now think there are so many different ground scenarios that are possible and some perhaps even sound the same as others but for a totally different reason. All I listen for now is enough good info to make me want to investigate the target. Even then I still find myself digging very iffy signals. lol my knowingness is knowing I don't have a clue.š But I'm having fun! -
Bbs / Fbs / Recovery Speed Questions
Tometusns replied to Digalicious's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Digalicious, I remember hunting with my son while he was still using his Etrac. I was using the Equinox. We both had six inch coils on while hunting a lot where an old house had been. It was pretty trashy and he had located a target and asked if the Equinox could find it. I walked over and it was an easy target. He said "I had to really work to find that target". It was shortly after he had an Equinox. So, yes going slow and really working you can find targets hiding with bbs, fbs but it's a slower process for sure. The target was just a copper penny and they both found it but one was a lot easier to do so with. I only hunt and other than knowing the recovery speed is slower I'm not the person to give explanations on the hows and whys. That particular hunt came to mind when I read your post. Tom -
Rick, I think I'll be getting both and probably not using the stock and six inch as much. When I was playing with the vanquish I really liked that twelve inch stock coil on it. The five by eight that came with it was good but I think the nine and a half by six I'll like a little better. The five by ten was on my equinox most of the time.

The coils look awesome! The sp30 is lighter than the stock coil! That's impressive and I really like an elliptical shaped coil. I thought the 9x12 on the vanquish was a bit deeper than the stock coil on my equinox. Hopefully similar results on the sp30 vrs. the stock coil. The sp24 will probably be used most. Especially in yards and trashy areas. Can't wait to try it in heavy iron which the stock coil is really quite amazing in any way. Even on lower recovery speeds using the factory default iron filter setting. You just can't buy a machine that does all the Legend does for the money. Beta tester... meš¤... hmmm, I'll definitely load it up on one of my Legends to try out. If there are tweaks I'll just update it again and wait till they get it finished then update my other one to the finished version. Owning the Legend is really quite exciting. Getting to test a beta version! It'll be very interesting to hear the feedback from everyone. Fun times in a fun hobby! š

That was the same problem I had. Loved the machine hated the grip.

Del, I haven't heard of any.

It's not too bad when you're only hunting with one machine. It's easier to remember how to do what when you want to change something. The more I use it the easier it is to navigate thru the different settings. You certainly do have a lot of options to play with for sure.

Some Legend Finds From This Mornings Hunt
Tometusns replied to Tometusns's topic in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
JCR, Iāve done the Legend just like I did the Equinox. Iāve found some settings that work well here and donāt make adjustments too often. park mode, M1, G disc pattern, recovery speed 3, 60 tones with the tone break at 7, iron filter 8, audio gain 1, ground balance 0 unless needed and sensitivity 28 + or - as needed. I do have different programs saved to use when Iām trying to do certain things. Iām very happy with my settings. Pretty simple. Iāve just concentrated on learning the sounds that these settings make in relationship to the targets in the ground. Tom -

Manticore...... Will It Leak Video From Gigmaster
Tometusns replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Rich, I had good luck with mine as well although I never submerged it. Rain was the worst it saw. I donāt have any Knowledge at all about trading in an out of warranty head unit. Sorry. -
Manticore...... Will It Leak Video From Gigmaster
Tometusns replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Not sure where Gigmaster came up with the idea but it certainly revealed where it was leaking at. Cudos to him for that. It sure seems odd that some have cracks and some donāt. Who knows. What it does do is give you a place to keep an eye on. So, what do ya do if you see cracks besides the obvious donāt submerge it. Seems it should be a warranty issue if you still have any left. -
