I use AF 5 on our beaches as I want to knock out any and all iron on tourist beaches….except along the treasure coast.

My beach programs are always on Tracking. Works fine where I hunt but It's not universally true for each and every beach.

Bottle caps are not created equal. Corona is the worst for fooling you. If you zeroed in on 5, you avoided some of those ferrous caps. It’s the aluminum ones that are a pain. I actually notch 0-10 since iron on our tourist beaches are always junk. On the treasure coast, I don’t notch anything. However, they have dumped 5-8 feet of new sand along the treasure coast!!! Redefines the term “buried treasure”. 🥴

I never notched out pull tabs...or tried to.... because as we all know they ring up in a similar range as some nice targets. But I thought I'd experiment with 32 random pull tabs from a variety of manufacturers using Deus V1.0 and V1.1 just out of idle curiosity more than anything. Had the new update versions changed how pull tabs were identified? What I confirmed was more or less the obvious...pull tabs, like bottle caps, are not all created equal. In other words, pull tabs in pristine condition rang up in a range from 61-65 in my tests. Now keep in mind these pull tabs I used were relatively new. None were broken or had been in the sand for an extended period of time and the tests I ran were air tests...yes I know...air tests...ugh! In real salty beach life, pull tabs are found in a wide ranging state of deterioration, age and design, as well as an endless array of parts and pieces. As a result, I've found their VDI to ring up anywhere from the 50s to the 70s! Notch out that range at your own risk...regardless of the update version or detector used. Now if you want to focus on recently dropped pull tabs, i.e. new ones, you can try notching out 61-65 which will indeed get rid of SOME new ones. However, a women's 22K ring I brought back from Saudi Arabia after DESERT STORM rang up as a solid 62!!!! So again, enter that door at your own risk. Granted, you'll find tens of thousands of pulls tabs for every 22K ring but what other nice gold items of various metallurgical composition will ring up in that same 61-65 range? In any case, it was an interesting exercise and I enjoy interesting exercises where metal detection and detectors are concerned. Bottom line for you; the results of this personal lark is worth exactly what you just paid for it...🤣

Florida beaches are very humid today…more so than normal but I got a few hours in to included some verification testing. I’ll be in touch.

Glad you, found those settings useful and thanks for giving it a run on a beach other than Florida's east coast. I'm still tweaking it based on V1 parameters. 😉

That's exactly what I want to find out with this new V1.0. Obviously, I'll dig tabs if that range is too erratic like it was in V.71. I'm always up to exploring new possibilities when the latest version comes out and was hoping XP tightened up that range a bit in V1.0. I'll find out next time I get a chance to hit the beach. 😉

Carolina, I saw a different result using 40kHz in Beach Sensitive 11" coil. I use 24kHz in my Gold Field and Dive Check programs that I installed next to my Notched Beach Sensitive program so I could check anything questionable.

Chase, I was doing some air tests focused on 23 pull tabs from a variety of cans and manufacturers since I haven't had a chance yet to get to the beach with V1.0. I wanted to confirm my suspicion that all pull tabs, like bottle caps, are not created equal...which turns out to be the case. I set up Beach with a max freq of 40 and salt sensitivity of 7...just as I had in Beach Sensitive which is my primary beach hunting program. All settings were identical. What I noticed was a somewhat difference in VDI at times. The Beach program was a VDI point or two lower than Beach Sensitive...again at times and only with certain, but the very same, pull tabs as I tested using Beach Sensitive without the notch. In other cases, they were the same VDI. This led me to suspect that there may be some slight difference between the two programs other than max frequency and salt sensitivity and it most likely depends on the metallurgical composition of that pull tab...perhaps. Having said that, I readily admit these results are inconclusive right now as air tests have their well known limitations. In any case, the difference wasn't significant enough to cause concern for my purposes. I was able to confirm my assumption that pull tabs are indeed different in make up so if I wanted to notch them out, I would have to establish the range from 61 - 65. I then tested a number of gold, tungsten carbide and stainless steel rings to determine if any of those rang up in that 61-65 range which would then mask the good targets...and they did not. The closest was the steel ring which rang up in the low 50's. I'll give up nickels now and then for sure. So to cover that, I installed a modified gold field and modified dive program,sans notch, next to my notched Beach Sensitive program so I have a check on anything that raises a question as I scan the beach. More validation of my "theory" is certainly required and on a real salt water beach since as I always try to apply the philosophy of my past life...."train as you fight." In other words, make the training or testing as close to the actual operational environment as possible.

You’re right. I set up Beach Sensitive and Beach exactly the same and tested some targets…they weren’t the same. It’s the frequency weightings that makes the difference as I see it but what do I know. Cav Guys we’re never known for their brilliance…especially old ones! 😂

I'm a full time beach hunter and I've used Pitch and Square with the iron volume turned all the way down and a notch from 0-10. On a tourist beach, any iron to be found is totally junk. Not so on the treasure coast. There, I want to hear it all. In V1.0 I'll use High Square which does change the tone somewhat...I like it. I have noticed other changes from V.71 too not only in terms of sound but in VDI also. It will just take some time to learn and get accustom to the new V1.0...totally worth the time and effort....a great update for sure.

After a few days of research and some preliminary testing, I now have 4 "beta" programs ready to test on the beach. Taking what I've read from XP and this forum from well founded and credible contributors, I did some preliminary testing of various settings. I now have 4 modified programs that I'll take to our saltwater beaches and tweak as necessary until I find the right combination with which I feel confidently comfortable. My 4 "beta" programs are based on: Beach Sensitive, Beach, Diving, and Gold Field. Once tweaked, I'll post my thoughts on each. Keep in mind, those posts may be worth exactly what you paid for them if blindly applied to your specific situation and particular environment. 😁 As I always say, Predetermined settings only gets you in the ball park. It's up to you to pick the best seat. 😉 In summary, I'm very impressed with V1.0's potential, flexibility and enhanced performance. A modified Beach Sensitive, particularly, promises to be a beast for my kind of hunting. More later....

Chase gave good advice. My RC locked once upon a time and I just let it stay on until the battery died. I then plugged it back in and all was well.

I’m on board with the good Captain and F350 in that I’ll be keeping V1.0 for the long term. Still in the experimentation phase but have zeroed in on 4 modified programs I’ll be testing at the beach with an eye on fine tuning them for saltwater beaches. In short, I’m both encouraged and impressed. Good job Captain…

I see a lot of significant potential in V1.0. I particularly like the max frequency adjustment capability. I foresee that being useful on the beach. Having said all that, it will take a new round of experimentation on my part to zero in on the settings that suit me and my hunting environment...and that experimentation starts today. I'll post my findings/settings along the way. I'm also looking forward to reports of other's experimentation efforts. Since relic hunting is not my wheelhouse, I'm particularly interested in relic experimentation so I can get a head start on the next trip to Tennessee and my daughter's new property. 😉
