I've said it before, here goes again..... I did good with the 6 and it definitely will outshine the SDC overall. My ground isn't too bad for hot/cold rocks and my 6 never got the upgrade. I could work around the little fits but it was annoying at times. Aircraft overhead was my main bitch. SDC just purrs right along all the time. I also usually fall down at least once, usually more, per hunt and the last thing I worry about is if the SDC can take a "hit"....lol Built like a tank and handles like one too.... one smooth and tuff mutha!!!! jmo's 30-40 days and I should be able to get out digging...!!!!!!!

I see the trash thing kinda like Phrunt. If I'm digging trash I'm not digging gold. In my eyes it's an odds thing...the more I dig the more chance I end up with higher a piece count at the end of the day? I know my machine (vlf), my area, my hot/cold rocks pretty good and trust what the machine tells me maybe 60-65% of the time? That alone tilts the odds in my favor and saves ME tons of time not digging trash. Awhile back I ruined my Goldmonster battery and showed up at my digs with a non working machine, no problem as the SDC was also with me. So I fire up the SDC and tried to salvage my hunt that day. The rest of the day I dug nothing but trash, not one tiny bit of gold. Don't get me wrong....I have the SDC for certain situations but my preference is using the Monster for most my work mainly for its light weight and that little bit of extra info it gives me. I dig enough trash and a few hot rocks EVERY hunt to keep me honest. I feel the disc helps put the odds in my favor whether to walk or dig resulting in more gold at the end of my hunts. Sure I miss gold...so does everybody else. Usually I re-hunt an area several times and eventually using both my machines before I consider it done to the best of my ability with the gear I got. Once again IMO it's an odds/numbers game, more targets more gold, less trash more gold...... I do like using both a PI along with a vlf when the ground isn't too steep or brushy, mark targets with PI then chase with the vlf...saves ME a ton of time not having to waste valuable time digging trash targets.... JMO's

IMO you really need both vlf and PI to cover all the bases.....

I'd give my left nut to see some glorious dirt instead of the white stuff......

swung a GSII for 22yrs. Not sure what non-metallic means(?) but 7-8yrs ago I stumbled onto a PDF file somewhere on the interweb with several downloadable Tesoro manuals including the GSII......possibly on this forum? Sorry not much help....

Same story as above. Have the 31" ball handle lesche and love it for coin shooting. It's also 10-11yrs old, very tuff and like already mentioned, possible quality issues with most anything new nowdays...????

Unfortunately there's no numismatic value to that IH. The value lies in the fact that you found it after someone lost it 100+ yrs ago. What I used to do with my IH's is gently clean with Dawn and water, let dry, then soak in almost any kind of oil for a few days then gently take a round wooden toothpick and clean any nooks & crannys. That's about all you can do with the coppers... Just the way I did it, not saying it's right or wrong.....

Exactly...!!!! One little old $10 safety vest does indeed slow the whiners down a bunch!!! Back in my coin shooting days I'd wear that vest when I went to the big city to detect. A few whiners might ask "what are you looking for?"... I'd reply "City asked me to come out and look for a set of keys they think they may have lost on this street".....shuts em right up. The vest also stopped most from questioning anything.

GPX5000...... I kinda knew I wouldn't like it even before I bought it? Swung it for 10-12hrs and immediately sold it. Country I dig in is steep and brushy and that stupid harness, bungee, battery cord, headphone cords, readjusting bungee when going uphill or downhill, etc. All those cords getting hung up in the brush every 10-20 feet, headphones getting pulled off my head all the time. That was it so down the road it went! I'm out there to ENJOY my retirement and dig a little gold, not fight with a machine.

That's pretty darned good hunting right there! Key words "I work at it regularly". 75 more days approximately and I'll be back on some gold, this has been a LONG winter.....

Yeah.... having access to the gold fields definitely pays off quicker than coin shooting but coin shooting can pay off too if a guy is persitant?

Fortunately, all my detectors have more than paid for themselves over the years, be it coinshooting or gold detecting so it's a non issue? ALL my hobbies have cost me money over the long haul except detecting where I've come out ahead financially.

Hope you'll keep your posts coming. I swim in the shallow end of the pool (sdc,gm1000) and most what you post about doesn't concern me much (6000's, 7000's, 5000's, coils, etc....BUT I do read and always seem to take some of what you say as experienced info that may help me in some of my situations, then toss out what doesn't pertain to my situations. I always gain a little something from your posts and sure most here feel the same. Keep posting......

No longer have a 6 but dug 105-110 nuggs with it before we parted ways and biggest was a 4.2 grammer @ 13".... faint but definitely repeatable. Used my Apex pick head to measure which is now worn down to 9.5" from 10". I thought that was pretty respectable?

welcome! I pm'ed a member from AB (Lanny) about your post. I believe he's in Magrath right over the hill from Cranbrook. His digging spots are on your side of the hill in BC. I'm almost sure he'd enjoy talking with you if nothing else? You may just get a pm from him? Back when the border wasn't such a hassle, myself and a few other motorcycle buds used to ride up to Cranbrook on many trips and party hard with some of you crazy canucks....fun. fun, fun!
