I kinda figured my Monster was maybe about a 10" machine for the most part? It's good to know that when I get the coil over a 28 lb nuggie @ 18" it won't be missed....!!!!!

I find the little bits of gold are more of a challenge so every time I come across a bigger piece like in your pic I re-bury it so the newer detector guys can have some fun and excitement with an easy find! All joking aside...IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

I totally agree Gerry! It's all about the memory of finding something that's just hard to find? I have a few of my personal favorites that are worth a bunch TO ME over my 27 years tecting but it's the least "valuable" one I probably treasure the most as I NEVER thought I'd dig one EVER out west and in a very young and small town? I dug an 1842 Large Cent in good shape. Other notable favorites are Morgan Dollars (1879s,1921), Seated Half (1853), and a 1937d "3-legged" buffy. Got seated's, V's, buffs, barbers, IH's, mercs, rosies, and coffee cans full of wheats & coppers, etc. I may part with the common silvers and pennies but doubt I could ever part with the Morgans, seated half or the LC.... Those coins bring back the memories any time I look at them and that (imo) can't be bought with $....???? Good post....thanks!!!!

Looking at all the tiny bits all you folks have posted is very impressive and reminds me of amazing these gold detectors really are! Glad the old timers didn't have them....lol Thanks for the pics all, something to look at and talk about to help get thru the winter duldrums.!!!! Gotta plow and shovel again tomorrow...…..

OK...I'm bored as the snow keeps piling up!!! I remember reading a thread on one of these forums, which I can't remember which one, but somebody posted some very small bits he'd gotten with I believe a Gold Monster(?). Anyways....one of the replies posted was from a person who couldn't and wouldn't believe a detector could find gold that tiny. Soooo.... just for fun lets see some pics of your smallest bits and what detector you got them with??? Mine below were got with the Monster.....

I can't speak for Steve but it sure sounds like he was doing what I call "clad stabbing"....Quick easy shallow coins. "IF" you chase the older coins in beat to death parks you'll find them DEEP. Ain't gonna get anything done with a probe or screwdriver without making a hell of a mess of the turf. I've been in these shovel debates before and agree "the perception of a shovel is bad...no doubt". The reality is I can cut a much better, faster and cleaner plug with the lesche shovel than I can with the handheld lesche….much less a screwdriver (great for shallow stuff)…… I've been confronted in parks before and once I demonstrate how I cut a plug and put it back, then ask if they can see any of my other holes, that usually quiets them right up...… But then again...there's idiots out there that'll ruin it no matter what they use? Shovels look bad agreed....but boy do they do a nice clean quick job on the deepies……...jmho

for parks I use a lesche 31" shovel with the ball handle....LUV IT! 3-4 stabs, pop the plug and you're down 7". They look bad to most but actually can do a MUCH better job as far as leaving the grass/plug in better shape when you're done......jmo

1992 eh???? That's when I started tecting and that park was one of my first good "hits".... They had done a tearout maybe 25' x 25' right behind the restrooms/concession and I was the first in.....seated, IH's, mercs, my first V and barbers....shield came later in the turf. I can only imagine how beat that park is now. Oh yeah.....I was done with the tearout area and another guy showed up, there was 1 Pepsi can in the middle.... He asked me "did you check under that can?".... I replied "no"....he kicked the can away, ran his coil over the area, and popped a barber quarter!!! Lesson learned.....lol Just another thought..... In my time over there I never did get around to hitting the courthouse? Might be a good one if you've also not tried it? Maybe on a Sun. afternoon about supper time? One other thought....maybe do some research and find out where in the park/fort grounds area where the officers quarters where? Might be worth some door knocking on some of those fancy homes to find another gold coin? GOD I HATE door knocking....lol good luck......

You are on the right track imho.... There's LOTS of good old Buffs & V's still out there as most guys won't mess with them because of the beavertails, etc. Once I figured out a place was done to my best abilities on the older silver, wheats, etc. I would then focus on nickels (and only chasing nickel signals would I ever stumble onto the gold ring by complete accident). My weakness is I HATE zinc so I miss a few IH's. Like you mentioned I also figured out that if I was digging modern junk coins I wasn't digging the older stuff I wanted so I started leaving shallow clad and zinc for the other guys...lol My old coins count came up as my clad count came down. I now hunt for nuggets only (but can't for some reason part with my eTrac?) and do miss coin shooting but not the distances I have to travel to successfully do it. Also can't take the people, sirens, dogs, folks bitching at you or asking questions, etc. As far as your gold coin finding goes (never found one myself) you might want to focus more on the $5 piece as it was more common? You are most likely familiar with C'dA city park and the Fort Grounds area. Back in the day Military enlisted were paid in silver...officers in gold. That park and ballpark across the road has given up some real nice old coins to me years ago (seated, V's, buffs, mercs, shield, barbers, IH's) and nobody gets em all.... You get that Nox figured and stick to your game plan I have no doubt you'll be rewarded in the end....GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Ditto Jimmy.... My way of looking at gold "value" is much the same. An ounce is always an ounce. Back when gold was $20/ounce it took approx. 30 ounces to buy a bare bones pickup truck...today it takes approx. 30 ounces to buy a bare bones pickup truck....nothing has really changed as far as the "value" of gold...???? jmo...….

Personally haven't tried one but there is a thread over on Tnet talking about worst products ever made and the GC was mentioned....might check it out? Seems someone is always trying to re-invent the gold pan....lol

That doesn't surprise me at all. Although I've never done, or would do, a club seeded hunt I've always thought I could be VERY competitive with the GSII. That 8" concentric "doughnut" coil is so fast/easy to PP with compared to a DD (which I normally prefer in my coinshooting)…… target is always right in the center of that doughnut hole...….

GSII was my first and only detector ever used for 22yrs. Paid $429 for mine in '92 (?). Recently sold it and it's still working fine. Dug a LOT of coins with that machine. Switched to Minelab 5 yrs ago and haven't looked back...…..

Check mylandmatters and see if there are claims in the immediate area? That should give you a good idea of what your chances may be.....
