  1. Good video Sinclair, you are exactly right. I have had my Equinox 800 for 2 months now, detecting six days a week only on beaches and in the sea here in Spain. The main difficulty in Beach 1 with the 2 € coins is that they sound more or less the same as a pulltab. For the last 6 years I have used an AT Pro, pulltab - 53 2€ - 65 1€ - 75, in addition pull tab has a distinct double tone and a harsh sound, and the iron audio button is much better at identifying beer bottle crown caps than the all metal button on the Equinox. The Equinox goes deeper and is more sensitive and stable and is a great machine without doubt. I am not trying to compare here, just giving my experience. In my opinion for a machine that has two dedicated beach modes, it is not the best machine for coin shooting on dry sand. I also have a problem in the sea in beach 2, still trying to sort that one and will make a separate post about that later. Happy hunting
  2. Been using mine in the sea with no problems, feels much like the Excalibur to me in terms of drag. HH
  3. Thanks to Steve and Chase for pointing out where my thoughts were wrong. I had no intention to cause confusion, I just did not think it a good idea to use the Equinox underwater without a waterproof connector. As a sea detectorist I just hope some waterproof headphones arrive very soon, a shame not to be able to use the machine to it´s full capabilities until they are available. HH
  4. I don´t to wish to be pedantic here Chase, but surely if you use a non waterproof connector into the audio socket of the detector and put it under water then it is going to leak. That is why the waterproof headphones or the extension cable with the waterproof connector are needed for underwater use, otherwise why would they bother, they would just have standard non waterproof 3.5mm jacks on them. Just my thoughts. HH
  5. Also, make sure the mini plug is compatible with the Equinox jack which is recessed to accommodate the watertight, screw-in headphone plug. Right angle plugs likely won't work without some kind of pigtail adapter. From what I understand, if you plug a normal 3.5 mm jack into the headphone socket, then it will allow water into the machine. You would need the waterproof jack as supplied on the forthcoming waterproof headphones. As far as I know there are no "normal" headphones that have this jack fitted. HH
  6. Thank you very much Steve for starting this forum and for your hard work and unbiased information. I know it takes up a lot of your time and patience, and is much appreciated.
  7. Thanks for all the informative replies, Very helpful HH
  8. I use a Garrett AT Pro for dry sand detecting, and when hit by EMF, usually from bar internet systems, the operating frequency of the AT Pro can be adjusted to try and eliminate it. There are four slightly different frequencies to choose from. Just wondering if Steve knows whether there are adjustments that can be made with the Equinox, apart from turning down the sensitivity of course, to alleviate interference from EMF. HH
  9. Notice the chips ID´s are blanked out, normal practice for security reasons
  10. It should not take 3 days to update a website, particularly for a company like Minelab. Any updates or changes could be done offline and uploaded in minutes. Maybe Minelab are just fed up of being bombarded with questions about the release date of the Equinox and just shut the website down for now
  11. Been trying to get on the Minelab website all morning, looks like it is not working.... interesting. Anyone else tried to get on the Minelab website today ?¿
  12. Thanks very much for your reply. I only ask because Minelab say it is waterproof to 10 feet so there must surely be some waterproof head phones available as your picture shows. From what you say I am assuming they have to be bought separately. They look like the old Koss phones I used on my Excalibur, in which case I will wait until there is an adaptor to be able to fit some decent waterproof ones. As you say wireless will be fine on the dry sand, no problem there
  13. What waterproof headphones can you use with the Equinox in the sea ? Why did they not fit a CTX 3030 headphone socket so we could use the phones we already have ? Is there an Equinox to CTX 3030 headphone adaptor available ?
