  1. abenson, what recovery speed setting are you finding works best ?
  2. Next time out, I'm going to run a combination of discrimination and ferrous limits with low to medium sensitivity. Also, "NORMAL" audio theme.With "NORMAL" audio,you can use 5 tones.In 5 tones you can adjust bin volume and pitch, so that when you open the screen by pressing the horseshoe, you don't hear or can limit the audio fatigue. Whatever allows me to here best the deep targets. Then dig targets that cross the center line.It may be mid week but I will report back on my results.
  3. GB usually mid 30's,though I have seen some 20's and low 40's. Not sure what level this relates to.I've tried hot sensitivity settings in 30's,low around 16 to 17 but run mostly at 20.With manticort, 20 sensitivity is plenty deep but have not found a way to discriminate FE from non FE with any combination of settings..Been using minlabs for years (E-trac,CTX,NOX as well as many other brands.I know my soil is highly mineralized. CTX discrimination of FE./non FE. runs out at 6". With CTX discrimination becomes iffy at 6". With hit targets at 7" but with no idea whether ferrous or non ferrous. Never dug anything beyond 7" in my bad soil with any detector. DISCLAIMER: I only have 20 hours with manticort and with sensitivity 20, I have dug targets at 9". Plenty deep but cannot discriminate iron yet.
  4. BASSTRACKERMAN, that is great information about the center line. I have highly mineralized soil and with about 20 hours on my manticort, I haven't found any settings that have anywhere near good results.I cannot tell ferrous from non ferrous.I'm also very much interested in this post and will be following. I will set up discrimination and limits using this center line theory.If I find something that works,I'll report back. Thanks for the good information.

Set the old Sd220d up in my shop...Got use to the tones,so that , I felt that I could discern the non-ferrous from the ferrous.I was setting all adjustments toward silver rather than as normally set for gold and it appeard to be working in my shop...Then I carried it out to an old '40's - '50's football field. Tried canceling the noise several times without success..The threshold was so noisy that I couldn't adjust....set CCW to all the way CW could not tell where the threshold was....It worked good in my shop... I tried it just guessing at the threshold setting and it detected deep but I couldn't discriminate anything...couldn't hear the deep targets...Steve, is this the reason you recommended reading about your write up on the GP3500? Is the GP3500 better at handling the EMF noise from external sources?Still looking for something to open up hunted out places that I have found good targets in the past...Any help appreciated...Thanks
  6. I have an old sd220d that I bought at a very good price a few years back..I powered it up when I first got it, but have never used it as we don't have much gold here in Alabama.My question is, can the sd2200d be used to detect for coins similar to the TDI? Thanks
  7. Thanks for all the help.. Steve, I read all the 2015 treads from Paul from California...I think that is "OLD California" on some other sites. Started to message Paul but he hasn't posted in several months...just hope his health is okay....Yeah, I'm beginning to realize the PI iron limitations that you are referring to. Have only used a TDI PI machine that apparently more limited as compared to ATX, SDC, or GPX...I was just hoping that the GPX would be so deep that maybe it could discriminate iron to at least 7" in my bad soil....If it could then it would help me get beyond my VLF limit. I want to try a GPX or the newly released Fisher I Pulse AQ....Not sure when the AQ will be available for purchase and not sure if much advantage over the GPX...however, the price said to be between $2100 and $2500 is about the same as a new GPX4500....about $1000 less than a new GPX5000....if I had your money then it would be such a proble..I'd just get both.   8. I doubt that we have much gold here in Alabama, we're too far from the beach, and not much civil war fought here, so, that leaves coin shooting . However, we do have lots of iron in the ground (bad soil) and rusty nails. Will the GPX's, SD2200's or 2300's actually discriminate iron good enough to be able to go a little deeper than my CTX3030? My CTX is good for about 4" in worst soil and 7" at best. I need something to get a little deeper. The only PI's that I've owned is the original TDI several years back and presently have a TDI SL. The original TDI was deeper than the SL and I was thinking that I could tell small iron nails while adjusting GB would lose nails at "5" on GB then continuing to hear hi conductors on down to "3" on GB. I can in no way tell a rusty nail from a high conductor with the TDL SL. Will any PI discriminate good enough to detect only high conductors? IF no, then I'm waiting on the Fisher Manta. Thanks, Joe

  10. I have a TDI SL coming in today. I know most people want to detect for small gold. In my bad soil I want to detect silver coins that my CTX3030 can't reach. I'm a long way from the beach and probably long way from gold. That leaves coins and relics. I've heard that larger coils tend to ignore small trash which sounds good for a coin hunter. I know that if you raise the delay that this helps but with a loss of depth. A 12" dual field and 7.5" dual field are coming with the machine. What could I get that would be better suited for detecting coins?
  11. Have been reading past treads from Steve H., Reg Snift, and others concerning modification that could be added to the TDI, TDI PRO, and TDI SL. One was a Li ion battery pack to up the voltage. I can do that. Another was to change a couple caps (c20 and c21) to .22 mf and change a couple op amps. Sounded like Reg would do some for a price. Then sounded like Reid Mann in Virginia would do them. Then the VP from Whites came on the forum asking for feedback. I forget his name but think he just retired , anyway, his final answer sounded like he would have this mod. incorporated into the new TDI SL future production. This was a year or two back. Now my question, Do you know if this mod. has been installed in the new TDI SL that fedex is supposed to deliver to me tomorrow? If not since I'm a retired electronic tech. I could install myself if Reg had given a little more information. If no one has or are willing to give out, do you know anyone that installs the mod. for a price? Thanks, Joe
  12. After using many detectors I've found the minelab E-trac and CTX3030 to be the best for me with the kind of detecting that I do. I'm getting the Equinox hoping to help with the highly mineralized soil here in central Alabama.
  13. Looking forward to getting my E800 and appreciate the opportunity to read and learn behind you Steve. Question if you don't mind...My E-trac and CTX3030 runs good in auto ground tracking. Since the NOX default for detecting coins in an old park is manual GB, have you noticed much of a difference between manual and auto GB? I've always heard that a little positive GB in manual can get a little more depth. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
  14. I just pre-ordered the Enox 800 mainly because I'm hoping it will be deeper that my CTX3030 in my bad soil. Kellyco rep. said that they have been led to believe they will receive a shipment before Christmas. However, with all the hype and pre-orders world wide. the first shipment may not cover all the pre-orders.
  15. Thanks Steve for your reply. I'm very pleased with my CTX3030, above everything that I have tried, and I've had most VLF's and a few PI's. For my type detecting I've not found anything better. I'm not the type that is looking to be critical of someone that is trying to be helpful. However, It does seem that Minelab is claiming that the ENOX has an advantage in bad dirt. They seem to state that it is better on low conductors in bad dirt but I'm not sure if they claim it to be better on high conductors in bad dirt. Any help going forward will be much appreciated.   16. Steve, I have highly mineralized soil here in central Alabama. I have an E-trac, Ctx3030, F75, and Cz3d and have owned several other detectors over the years. I've never dug a silver dime here at greater than 7 inches. There are parks in Birmingham that I have hunted all day and not dig anything beyond 4 inches. So, do you think the Nox will get me an extra inch on silver or low conductors here? Thanks
