  1. Something you might not be thinking about is that not all of us are out to pay for our Detectors, although I probably have even with the limited season I had this year. I love old coins. I don’t know why. Gold rings don’t do much for me for some reason. Gold nuggets? Now I’m excited again! Trying to find old coins, in a hunted a out park is what I love to do. I love the history of them. I love the challenge. I’m always hoping for that rare key date coin or deep Barber Dime that someone else missed. I’m so weird that even hunting house permissions takes some of the thrill away. I always feel like I’m cheating. I know it doesn’t make sense but that’s how I feel. My friend is obsessed with clad and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around sometimes. Modern coins are just trash to me. Same level as a pull tab in my book. They take away from my swing time looking for old coins, so I skip most surface coins except quarters. Only reason I pick those up is because it might be a silver ring. I have many times thought about even skipping those because silver rings don’t excite me either. I guess I’m just trying to say we all have different motivations and styles of hunting. I’m the weird guy that don’t care about gold rings. Sure I’ll be happy for a few minutes if my Nickel ends up being a nice gold ring. Especially if it’s old one. Bryan
  2. Ya,Tom Dankowski has recently written about EMI and Silent EMI, and how affects depth. http://www.dankowskidetectors.com/discussions/read.php?2,156756 Bryan
  3. I agree with you on being flexible on ID numbers to get deep and old GB_Amateur. The reason I asked about the Nickel IDs is because I have yet to find one that strays outside of 12-13 on My Equinox. I had one flash 11 on me but did not repeat again before I dug it. Even Nickels at 9-10” have held their ID. Every time my 12-13s are accompanied by any other number, it turns out not being a nickel. Most are beaver tail pull tabs or parts of them. From my detecting experience, it doesn’t make sense to be that tight. I have found a lot of Buffalo and V-Nickels with my Nox this year. Finally found my first Shield Nickel too. It definitely hits them deeper then my FBS Detectors did. Bryan
  4. Use 50 Tones with No discrimination. This should eliminate your audio clipping. (Not falsing) You can set your ferrous range audio volume on low. Bryan
  5. That’s a crazy number of Jefferson’s! The parks I hunt have very little clad so my New/Old nickel ration is very very low. The old Nickels are deep so I’m guessing a lot of guys miss them. Curious how often your Nickels come in at 11 and 14. My Nickels hang so tight to 12-13 I finally stopped digging the 11s and 14s unless it’s real deep. Got tired of digging beaver tails. I really like your gold ring. Looks pretty old. The Buddha is cool too! Bryan
  6. A couple of things that amazed me about my gold coin find was that the park I found it in is one of the toughest in our area. I have left that park many times with only one old coin to show for the hunt. The area I found it is right were my friends and I have covered countless times. The other thing that amazed me was my research after my find that made me realize that loosing a $5.00 gold coin in 1910 is like loosing somewhere around $125.00 today. I’m guessing not many people back then were carrying around gold coins to lose in the first place. I was flat out shocked when I found mine. Good luck to all in your search for one. It’s a high for sure when you do find one! Bryan
  7. That’s awesome Strick! Great story too! No feeling like finding a gold coin while detecting, that’s for sure. Bryan
  8. Something to think about is that being centered up over the target should give your most accurate ID. With the bigger, longer coil there is more opportunity to be off center wich could produce bouncy or different target IDs. Bryan
  9. Michael the TDI and Equinox use Completely different technology (PI and VLF)for detection and usually aren’t compared to each other except for showing the different uses for each, and again the 600 wasn’t designed for nugget hunting. As for the F44 and Land ranger performing better the the Equinox. I can see where some people who hunt on mild ground or have very little experience running a Multi Frequency Minelab might think that. They are different and some people don’t take to them. Sounds like you will probably do better with your Fishers if that’s what your comfortable with. I’m sure you will have no problem trading your Equinox for another Fisher. Bryan
  10. Try one and see what happens. My testing with the big coil puts the big silver coins in the 38-39 area and stacked silver rounds at 40.
  11. I don’t think it’s operator error Tim. The Equinox is very good at keeping a target in its conductive range to full depth in my ground but it does not always have the very tight ID numbers that the CTX or even E-Trac has. I’m ok with that because as an old coin hunter I’m digging anything 18 and up anyway.. Just makes for an occasional surprise. Bryan
  12. Maltfoto you should have probably got the 800 if your a nugget hunter. More options (like Gold Mode) and control over those options. The 800 also has 20 and 40 kHz options for small gold sensitivity compared to 15 kHz on the 600.
  13. I’m starting to look like a real downer here and I don’t want to be that guy. Im just saying I don’t think the future is big clunky boxes filled with AA or worse yet C cells. Look at the power that resides in our smart phones. I have seen the light with the Equinox and it’s design.. It will take quite a jump in performance to get me to lay down money for a detector that is all wired up, clunky and heavy.. We have the technology to to do better then that. Bryan
  14. Just imagine that SDC2300 in a super light waterproof housing with changeable coils and built in rechargeable battery. It just doesn’t seem “state of the art” in its current configuration to me, besides it’s ability to fold up.
  15. Whites needs a makeover for sure. Their latest detector, the Goldmaster 24k still has a big box under the arm cuff. That is unacceptable with today’s technology if they want to continue to compete. Bryan
  16. I have not noticed any difference between any of the three coils for ID. Pennies can be a bit wild at times with all three coils. Especially the copper memorials from the 60s to early 80s. They will ring up in the high 20s sometimes making you think you might be on to a silver dime.. kind of kick I the gut. Bryan
  17. Hard to argue with Carrot deep coins with a 6” coil! Well done. Bryan
  18. After following this thread, I wanted to test my small coil since I haven’t had it out coin hunting yet. I went to my worst park for falsing and gave it a spin. The nails at this site are just plain nasty as you can see from the photo. Especially the ones with the sharp ends. They can throw out a very nice signal at times. The 6” coil had plenty of falsing, but only from one direction like the bigger coils.. The only one that gave me a two direction false was the bent wire up in the top left corner. Even then I could tell it was probably iron by the sound of the falsing. I hunted a couple hours with the small coil as well as the big 15” coil and did well with both considering the conditions and that this park has been absolutely hammered.. Most coins were partially masked by iron or in one case can slaw. You can see the iron stain on two of the Mercury dimes from the nails if you look close. I ran in Park 1 with the new update and did some cross checking with Park 2. Park one seems to work better in my soil. Bryan
  19. That’s what I keep telling him but he is extremely brand loyal. I see some cracks in his resistance though. He actually held my Equinox the other day to see how it felt with the big coil after complaining about his shoulder hurting. Bryan
  20. Yes. Deeper then the CTX/17 and E-Trac/Tornado combos in my soil. What is surprising is how hard it hits coins at depth. 10” pennies and dimes are solid hits with very good ID. I would on occasion hit 10” coins with the CTX and E-Trac but they were very quiet, subtle signals that you felt very lucky that you actually discovered.. I am starting to loose track but I have one particular park with deeper then average coins for my area that I have pulled around 40 old coins from using this big coil, with 90% of them being between the 9 and 10” range. Very fun and exciting seeing a park start giving up coins like this again. I’m finding on average 5 coins to every 1 that my friend is with his V3i and MX Sport running 15” Butterfly coils, hunting at the same time. That is definitely not the norm for us and I can see he is getting discouraged.. We always stayed pretty even when I ran FBS against his V3i. He is extremely proficient with it. I want to make clear that this coil reopened one particular park for me with no doubt. Two other parks I went to with the big coil showed no improvement over the stock coil because there is just was no real deep coins there. I’m primarily a city park turf hunter after old coins. Clad and jewelry don’t excite me. My default hunting program is Park 1- 50 Tones - Iron Bias 0- Recovery Speed 5 - Sensitivity 22 - Manual GB. I tweak the Recovery Speed and Sensitivity as needed but don’t stray too far from these settings. Bryan
  21. The big coil added a solid inch or more in my soil which I did not expect, being it’s only an inch wider then the stock coil. Very light, not nearly as nimble in trash as the stock, but if you have a site with very deep coins it’s definitely worth getting. This coil makes my Equinox now the deepest detector I’ve owned for my location surpassing both my CTX and E-Trac with big coils. Bryan
  22. Just curious how many of you guys are hunting in a single Frequency vs Multi with your Equinox. I’ve had so much success with Multi that I can’t get myself to try anything else. My thinking is maybe using a single Frequency such as 20kHz in a situation such as extreme carpet of nails that it might perform even better? I would like to hear your thoughts and experiences on this subject. Not just nails but any unique situation where a single Frequency might be better. Bryan
  23. Yes! A new modern CZ with a good DD coil selection would have been a big hit. Bryan
  24. I don’t want another device to charge.. Wired coils don’t bother me. Bryan
