  1. That is the perfect example of what happens to a CZ or frankly most Detectors in my soil.. I’ve had 3 of them including a Tom Tuned 12.2” certified CZ-5.. All iron tones after 6”.. Impressive air tests though.. Bryan
  2. I was was on my iPhone and realized that my wireless headphones were still paired Up.. They pair up to my phone as well as my Equinox every time I turn them on.. I had accidentally left them on after I had been doing some testing in the house earlier.. I have seen the little headphone paired icon on my phone before but this time I noticed a little battery indicator next to the icon.. Not sure how accurate it is but it was nice to see.. Not knowing how full my headphones were always kind of bugged me.. We will see with time how accurate this little indicator is.. Bryan
  3. The erratic IDs that flash 37 + seem to be Iron falsing.. The coins sitting close to nails that I have found with the Equinox usually can be isolated and tighten up in their proper range.. It can be a cruel game sometimes though.. Some of them one way signals can sound too good to pass up.. Especially if there is no indication of a nail during pinpoint.. Bryan
  4. The Stock 11” Coil feels remarkably small in high trash compared to any detector I have run with that size coil.. I can’t imagine what the 6” will be like.. I’m actually looking more forward to the bigger coil for ground coverage.. Hopefully it will knock the edge off some of the tiny targets that the Equinox is so sensitive to.. I’m with you Cal Cobra.. A closed elliptical coil would be fantastic.. Bryan
  5. Very impressive, especially considering the conditions.. That old ring is pretty cool..
  6. Let us know if you figure out something interesting in your testing Tim.. I had grand illusions of using all of these single and multi frequencies on my hunts but have found myself staying in Park and Field 1 with modified tones.. I’m doing so well I just haven’t done the frequency shifting and testing I thought I would.. I really need to test the Park and Field 2 especially.. Bryan
  7. Yes! The Equinox nail falsing reminds me a lot of both the E-Trac and CTX.. It’s much easier to separate the coins next to the nails with the Equinox though.. The higher sensitivities will really bring the nails alive.. The Equinox runs so quietly at the higher sensitivity you don’t realize it except for the nail falsing.. I know they are different detectors and technologies but I realized that I am running my Equinox at around 80% of full power where I can only run my FBS Detectors around 65% of full power without the detector going nuts and falsing off everything.. Im not directing this at you Dean because as an E-Trac user you probably already know this, but if any of you guys are having trouble digging too many nails, there are a few thing to help cut that down.. Check all high tones from two directions.. use pinpoint to check signal shape in two or more directions.. Turn down your sensitivity.. get an accurate ground balance.. If you just dig signals that beep good in two directions you will cut out most of your nail digs.. When you get more familiar with the Equinox you can start playing with the iffy signals next to iron and it will pay off.. Bryan
  8. Nice Buffs! That 16 looks like it has a lot of detail left on it.. Any mint marks? Looks like a possible 1914 on the left? All the 14s are good dates but the D is real good one.. 1916 S and D are pretty good too.. Bryan
  9. The smashed aluminum caps ring up nice for sure.. I’m not sure there would ever be a way to weed them out since there is no iron in them. Sounds like you have a more then average amount of them in that location.. I probably average one or two per hunt so they really aren’t much of a problem for me.. The Equinox is an awesome curb strip detector even with the 11” coil on it.. The amount of aluminum in the average curb strip is so overwhelming that I usually only cherry pick silver and copper while hunting them.. Yesterday I set up a two tone program in Field 1 with my tone brake at 18, Recovery at 7 and pulled some silver dimes, IHs and wheats from a strip I had already hunted with my CTX.. Love this Detector! Bryan
  10. CTX has tighter ID then both E-Trac and Equinox but your old wheats from 1909 through roughly the 20s or 30s read lower then 40s through 82 on all the above Detectors including the CTX.. The less accurate VID on the Equinox does not bother me because the coins stay in the proper conductive range all the way to max depth in my soil.. I’m digging anything that’s deep in that copper silver range.. A lot of silver dimes vary quite a bit too and hang out down in all parts of the penny range with all three detectors.. Bryan
  11. Good report MTwolf... I haven’t tried messing with the Iron Bias much yet but it’s next on my list now that I’m getting more comfortable with the Recovery Speed settings.. I also want to experiment with Auto tracking to see if it’s as good as the CTX/E-Trac.. Some of our parks have variable soils throughout.. Falsing definitely gets worse when you get out of balance and I also found it’s easy to run the Equinox too hot.. The detector will run very quiet at high power but the nail falsing climbs fast with that power increase if that makes sense.. Like you said 20-21 is plenty of power and will get you deep.. At least it has for me.. Thanks! Bryan
  12. My early Wheats and Indian Head Cents have been ringing up 20-21 so be careful ignoring zincs signals.. I use depth to make dig decisions on the zinc signals when I’m in Old Coin cherry pick Mode.. Bryan
  13. You can see where I posted here http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/5773-how-do-you-charge-your-equinox/?tab=comments#comment-60645 about my portable charger for the Nox.. After trying it out on a hunt with the plans of only using it if I needed to charge, I end up leaving it on because it helped balance the detector better.. It’s not as big and obstructive as it appears in the photos.. I forget it’s even on there as I hunt.. Bryan
  14. Great report Tim! I’m really glad to see your liking the Equinox as an experienced FBS user.. It’s definitely different from FBS and I can see where some might not take to the Equinox just because it’s a totally different feel.. Each time out I get better with it and am just amazed at some of my finds amongst the iron.. I’m not sure if it the speed, cleaner tones or both but I can pull coins next to iron so much easier with the Nox.. Haven’t missed my E-Trac yet.. Looking forward to hearing about your future hunts.. Bryan
  15. I’m hoping Minelab comes out with Multi-IQ Part 4 that explains in detail the differences between the modes so we don’t have to do so much guessing and wondering if we are using the best mode.. Little hints are given in the manual but I like details so I can dial in for ultimate performance.. I understand that we all have different conditions and targets we are after so we have to do some experimenting but more detailed knowledge of the modes would help shorten that process and help us understand what we are or aren’t experiencing.. I love this Detector and just crave more information about it.. Bryan
  16. Another hunt yesterday in a heavily hunted old park.. I’m starting to get a better feel for the modulation and the Equinox is growing on me quickly.. Can’t get over the depth with the stock 11” coil.. This park has been good to me with several key date coins in the past and yesterday it gave up a pretty nice 1912 S Wheat to add to my collection.. Check out the depth of the 1920 D Wheat! Bryan
  17. Pinpoint is very fast and accurate on the Equinox.. One of the best I’ve used.. Coins on edge will throw of your pinpoint.. I almost always check from two directions.. Especially the high tones to make sure it’s not an iron false.. Bryan
  18. Awesome bit of information there Steve H! This is the kind of information I crave.. Thank you!
  19. I use an iPad Charger at home, but I picked up a RAVPower 10050 mAa Waterproof (when lid is closed) Shock Proof, Dust Proof portable charger just in case I forget to charge and end up with a dead Equinox in the field.. It has two USB ports so you can charge the Equinox and it’s headphones at the same time. It’s fairly small and light at 7.4 oz .. It measures in at 2.8”. 4.61” x .91”.. Pretty compact compared to some of the longer units I researched.. I had an AWP cell phone case laying around that I bought some time ago that works perfect for it. I took off the metal belt clip and use the belt loop to slide over the arm rest.. Test swings at home seem to feel like the EQ has better balance.. The charger has great reviews on Amazon. I can’t remember where I bought the case. It was in the tool belt section of either Lowe’s, Depot or Walmart.. Bryan
  20. Nice hunt and report Dan.. I believe high trash and tough ground is where the Equinox is going to shine.. Looks like that Merc was on edge... Surprisingly, I dug a Nickel yesterday standing on edge that still read a solid 13.. The high conductors are bouncy but staying in the correct range but the Nickels have been rock solid so far.. Again, nice hunt and thanks for posting.. Bryan
  21. The jury is still out for me on performance as used for coin hunting... After a couple hours I found myself missing my carrot.. To be fair I need to really give this pinpoiner a couple more hunts but the F - Pulse really slows me down for some reason.. It seems to need more directional precision to find coins once the hole is open.. Reminds me of the TRX.. Its hard to put into words but something about the carrot makes it much faster for me to locate coins once the hole is open. The F pulse does have a depth advantage when using it to find your target before you dig your hole.. I let my friend try it out because he was thinking about getting one and he came to the same conclusion as I.. I will work with it some more to see if I can get better with it.. I really want this pointer to work for me.. It’s a very nicely built unit.. Bryan
  22. #1 Yes, I use steel wool or SOS pads on my Nickels.. Sometimes they turn out nice if they have a lot of detail and you don’t go too far with it.. This Nickel was pretty toasty and didn’t come out real nice.. I usually try to just highlight the details and leave some red in the background but it’s not always possible on the slick ones..The V Nickel in this photo is usually what I strive for in a Nickel Cleaning.. I use a pink eraser on my copper pennies after a water cleaning and just water on Silver.. #2 Most of my Detecting was done in Park 1, 50 Tones, No Discrimination, Recovery Speed 4, Iron Bias 0.. I also did a little hunting in Park 2, 5 Tones that we’re set up to High tone the Nickel zone and Copper Zone and low tone everything else..
  23. One thing I didn’t mention because I didn’t want to be the guy who looks like he’s exaggerating or hyping a story but I can’t help myself.. This site is tough! I never use the term hunted out but this site is very tough to pull old coins out of.. I’m a bit shocked at what I came home with.. Especially considering I was working with a limited area because of snow and I was spending a lot of time analyzing targets.. I dug a lot of weird signals just to learn the Equinox but none of these pictured targets were iffy signals.. In fact not a single weird iffy signal turned out to be anything good.. I also pulled several 4 to 6 inch clad coins that should not have been there.. Normally it’s only a few fresh drop surface clad.. To put this into further perspective, my friend who is extremely proficient with his V3i went home with one Indian Head cent.. I hope today’s hunt wasn’t just a fluke.. I guess time will tell. Bryan
