  1. Does anyone one know how long the turn around time is for getting repairs to the 6000, or for that matter any detector from the Detector Center in Pennsylvania. I sure wish I had mine back and repaired right now!
  2. I shipped my 6000 out last week hoping to get the speaker shield done. Now I am forced to use my Nox 800 as my primary gold machine. I have been going over Steves tips for using it, and I can’t completely understand a certain portion of setting it up in the field 2 mode to hunt for nuggets by tone. I was hoping someone could help me understand it better. I have been using it with gold 1 and 2 and have know problems here. I have looked at the manual but I am still unsure what really to do here. “If trash is minimal then set the tone break lower than normal, so that 0 and several negative numbers read as non-ferrous.” I believe the tone break default are 1 and 20, at least for 2 tones.
  3. Thanks Phrunt…….There is actually someone alive out there. I will give it a try.
  4. My Monster 1000 has finally gone bad. I was thinking it might be the coil so I put on the other one but does the same thing It is so unstable I just can’t use it anymore. It has always been knock sensitive but this is not that. Once turned on the slightest movement makes it go off and it never shuts up. I have put in a repair order to Minelab and they said send it in. I have had it for 4 or 5 years so its not under warranty. I just don’t know if is worth repairing. The cost to ship it there and back plus the repair cost. Has anyone had any dealing with Minelab with out of warranty products? I have a Nox also. I kind of like using the Monster as a pin pointer though.
  5. Thanks phrunt……you guys are getting way to technical for me! I kind of like plug and play! I am not much into taking stuff apart and re-engineering it, but I am sure this is helpful to others.
  6. Yes i had tried all the positions but the cheap adapter just never worked right. I would really like to use an adapter that i did not have to fool with. Thank you for your input!
  7. I have had my sun rays for 3 or 4 years. They are the red knobs. Unfortunately I have never used them do to the 1/4” jack. I had bought an adapter but it never worked right.
  8. I was hoping maybe someone could provide a link to the type adapter that I would need. My sun rays have a 1/4” jack.
  9. I have been trying to use my Sun Ray head phones with my 6000. I purchased an adapter to convert the 1/4” plug to eighth inch but I only get 1/2 the volume. Are there different adapter for a 1/4” plug that might make it work correctly? Anyone else use Sun Ray head phones with the 6000?
  10. If I understand all this correctly I would have a defective machine also. I purchased it in December of last year from Gerry. Not that it is his fault! I have always wore the head phones but yesterday I had forgot them. It does get really unstable without them. I was going to post a video from my iPhone but can’t figure out how to do it. I will try this:
  11. I have been using a shotgun trap pouch that I had for trap shooting. It has served its purpose for about 5 years now, though I aways wanted a bigger one. It was never deep enough. Now that I have seen this thread I have decided to try a real metal detecting pouch. I have a few to pick from now. I just hunt for gold and treasures on land.
  12. It takes 5 to 8 hour to charge the battery. It's only taking that amount of amperage out of the charge source. I am not sure really what the amp hour capacity of the battery is, but again its not much, probably around 5 to 6 amp. You could charge that battery many times from one car battery. I fail to see an issue here.
  13. Thanks Jonathan. That help me understand it much better.
  14. I really don’t want to charge the batteries in my car or truck. I want to charge my batteries in my RV with the supplied 12 volt plugs. I have 1500 watts of solar power, so time is not an issue to me. Charging direct from the battery uses less power than turning my inverter on.
  15. Exactly….Does the 6000 auto GB in manual modes?
  16. This is from Steve’s GPX 6000 accessories page. The following items do not come with the GPX 6000, but are likely to work with it based on what is known so far. This is preliminary guesswork, and it is not advised a purchase be made based solely on the information presented here. https://parts.minelab.com/0302-0082-p/0302-0082.htm
  17. Each time I try and ground balance my 6000 there is no detectable change. While holding the GB button I pump the coil then move it side to side. It’s like it don’t work. I friend of mine says his does not either. What am I missing? I run in manual mode with the threshold on. The noise cancel works very well.
  18. I glad to see I am not the only one. It is getting better. I went out today and slowed the process down a little bit and concentrated specifically on pping the targets. I am always in a hurry to see what I have found under that coil, which usually costs me a lot more time and a sorer back. Today I spent more time with actually pping the targets. It’s hard to over come that instance gratification feeling of what maybe in your scoop, and scoop after scoop there is nothing. I need better detecting skills it appears!
  19. Coming from the Monster 1000 with many hour using it with the 5” coil, I have had trouble with GPX 6000 pin pointing my targets. A few times I get it right but more times I don’t. It would sure be nice not to have to spend so much time trying to figure out where that dang piece is. Of course I only have about 6 or 8 hours on the machine. I am sure with time I will work it out but is there any pointers to help me along a little? Also this is my first gold with the GPX 6000. A nice .25 gram nugget.
  20. Thanks Steve…I found his site very interesting. I think I need to hunt a little to find one like that.
  21. Thanks DDancer……..that is a great site also, with a lot of info
