  1. I shipped my 6000 out last week hoping to get the speaker shield done. Now I am forced to use my Nox 800 as my primary gold machine. I have been going over Steves tips for using it, and I can’t completely understand a certain portion of setting it up in the field 2 mode to hunt for nuggets by tone. I was hoping someone could help me understand it better. I have been using it with gold 1 and 2 and have know problems here.

If trash is minimal then set the tone break lower than normal, so that 0 and several negative numbers read as non-ferrous. This way you can have ground signals reading as low tones (and possibly at a lower volume) and signals from gold as higher tones. Again, this works well with both EQUINOX models.”

I have looked at the manual but I am still unsure what really to do here.  “If trash is minimal then set the tone break lower than normal, so that 0 and several negative numbers read as non-ferrous.”  I believe the tone break default are 1 and 20, at least for 2 tones.

  2. My Monster 1000 has finally gone bad. I was thinking it might be the coil so I put on the other one but does the same thing  It is so unstable I just can’t use it anymore. It has always been knock sensitive but this is not that. Once turned on the slightest movement makes it go off and it never shuts up. I have put in a repair order to Minelab and they said send it in. I have had it for 4 or 5 years so its not under warranty. I just don’t know if is worth repairing. The cost to ship it there and back plus the repair cost. Has anyone had any dealing with Minelab with out of warranty products? I have a Nox also. I kind of like using the Monster as a pin pointer though.

Makes sense, as I use a Lipo battery on my GPX 5000 I have no amplifier in it, but I use a power speaker on my GPX which eliminates the need for the Amplifier in the GPX battery but I wanted to make an audio cable that allowed me to use both the original GPX battery and the Lipo battery.

To do this I made the 1/4" plug end that went into the batteries a mono plug to disable the GPX amp, if I didn't do this my little powered speaker went crazy from the amp in the GPX battery driving it too hard I guess.

At the other end I had to put a stereo plug for my speaker to get full volume, if I had it wired as mono I would get half volume, by bridging the mono audio wires to make the plug end stereo I was able to get full volume.

I hope that makes sense, but yes, if it's getting a mono audio for some reason it may well be half volume.

Thanks phrunt……you guys are getting way to technical for me! I kind of like plug and play! I am not much into taking stuff apart and re-engineering it, but I am sure this is helpful to others.

Just in case you haven't tried it (likely you have), did you try the two switches on the one headphone in all four positions?  One of those switches will severely mute the sound on my Pro Golds when using it with the WM08 of the Equinox.

One PitA of adapters and even with audio connectors in general is that there appears not to be tight standard on the plug length (and/or effective socket lentgh).  This seems to be particularly bad with the 1/4" plug-socket mating.  I use a 3.5 mm male to 1/4" female to mate the WM08 to my Pro Golds (which aren't the CTX version, btw) and I have to use four plastic washers slid onto the 1/4" male plug to get proper contact/mating.  It works but IMO these things should never happen with good standards and manufacturer tolerances.

Yes i had tried all the positions but the cheap adapter just never worked right. I would really like to use an adapter that i did not have to fool with. Thank you for your input!

The only way to put videos here is if you upload your video to a site like Vimeo or YouTube first then just post a link to it here. That’s what I did with my video above showing the built-in speaker instability issue.

while you’re at it also check your coils for ear cracks, you have a three-year warranty on those as well.

Thanks GotAU…….I finally got the video posted!

  6. I have been using a shotgun trap pouch that I had for trap shooting. It has served its purpose for about 5 years now, though I aways wanted a bigger one. It was never deep enough. Now that I have seen this thread I have decided to try a real metal detecting pouch. I have a few to pick from now. I just hunt for gold and treasures on land.

Still an issue for me is the voltage input regulator set at 1Amp. If the manufacturers designed the 6000 battery with 2 Amp capacity you could charge the battery in half the time. Experts can come in here if im wrong, cheers sturt

It takes 5 to 8 hour to charge the battery. It's only taking that amount of amperage out of the charge source. I am not sure really what the amp hour capacity of the battery is, but again its not much, probably around 5 to 6 amp. You could charge that battery many times from one car battery. I fail to see an issue here.

  8. Each time I try and ground balance my 6000 there is no detectable change. While holding the GB button I pump the coil then move it side to side. It’s like it don’t work. I friend of mine says his does not either. What am I missing? I run in manual mode with the threshold on. The noise cancel works very well.

  9. I glad to see I am not the only one. It is getting better. I went out today and slowed the process down a little bit and concentrated specifically on pping the targets. I am always in a hurry to see what I have found under that coil, which usually costs me a lot more time and a sorer back. Today I spent more time with actually pping the targets. It’s hard to over come that instance gratification feeling of what maybe in your scoop, and scoop after scoop there is nothing. I need better detecting skills it appears!

  10. Coming from the Monster 1000 with many hour using it with the 5” coil, I have had trouble with GPX 6000 pin pointing my targets. A few times I get it right but more times I don’t. It would sure be nice not to have to spend so much time trying to figure out where that dang piece is. Of course I only have about 6 or 8 hours on the machine. I am sure with time I will work it out but is there any pointers to help me along a little? Also this is my first gold with the GPX 6000. A nice .25 gram nugget.
