  1.  Steve have you ever read the book "Gold Camp". It is about the gold rush of Virginia City, MT., Bannack, MT., and Alder Gulch, Henry Plummer and his Road Agents who robbed all the miners in the territory and the inception and begining of the Vigilanties. You would love this book and so would everyone else. This story would make for an amazing epic gold rush movie and the colorful people who lived thru it. Look it up if you can't find it I will find the book in my room and get you the authors name.

  2. That is really funny you said that ophirboy because I bought a gpx5000 last week and didn't tell my wife. I was going to wait till  I found some nice gold to break the news to her but she startled me one night while I was in bed and she walked in while I was reading an email on coils for the 5000. I panicked and hid the phone when she walked into the room and she thought I was being unfaithful to her. I knew telling her would open a can of worms. So now I had to tell her I bought a detector, not that I was fooling around. What a predicament  I got myself into. Things are better now that she knows it was about a detector.  I paid our bills and it was my left over paycheck money but wives don't  see things that way. You may want to tell your wife you really want that detector. Lol

  3. Ophirboy, what Steve said is spot on. I will add one thing to what he said that I look for with the meter scale. If it bounces to the iron side and still makes a sound, signal, then I will dig the target because I found that it can still be gold. If it bounces to the iron side and doesn't  make a sound while in gold mode then I walk away from it. A deep target or tinny target or even a nugget with a coating on it like a patina can mask an absolute positive non ferrus reading. This is what I explained to oneguy and it has helped him reach his 100 bits of gold.

  4. SD miner the review has been written and emailed off to Ronnie. I work in the gravel and asphalt business and we have an enormous amount of work. I drive a water truck and I put in close to 70 hours a week. That doesnt leave me with alot of time to get much of anything done when I want and need to get it done. But the review is done and in Ronnies hands. It really is a great pair of phones and I would highly sugest getting  a pair soon as he gets them going to send out.

  5. I was up there about 3 weeks ago and found 10 in less than 2 hours. That area has been hit hard . Strange the zed didn't  hit t on it.  My next trip there I will be using the 5000 I just bought. This might seem wierd but I think there are strange low lying anomylies in the atmosphere close to the ground that can affect signal responses from one day to the next.

  6. "Klondike" is my favorite.  It's a 3 part mini series on the klondike gold rush based on real life people. If you haven't seen it or heard of it, then get it you will never get tired of watching it. My second favorite is "Paint Your Wagon" with  Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood.

  7. I would rather purchase a new good set of phones for the monster than Jimmy rig an adapter that sticks out too far and can end up causing stress at the plug opening  and have to stick shims under it and strap it down to secure it. It is unfortunate Minelab paired such an awful set of phones with such an amazing detector. To replace the set that came with it from Koss itself costs only $5.00. So hats off to Detector Pro for coming to the rescue and producing high quality phones to compliment this awsome detector. Thanks Detector Pro!

  8. I had talked with Detector Pro on the issue of headphones for the Gold Monster 1000 and I said they would do well on sales if someone would come out with a good after market headphones. Well they thought about it and called me back informing me that they are answering the call to produce a high quality headphones for the Monster that will eliminate the external speaker sound from coming thru. These headphones are the same as the Gray Ghost headphones but were made specifically for the Gold Monster. They are the Gold Series and there will be a special headphones coming out for the Exuinox as well. The cord is a pigtail style with an 1/8" jack that shuts off the external speaker. The sound is sharp and crisp with no distortion. The pigtail cord is 6" longer than the Gray Ghost headphones and I assure you there will be no more kneeling on the cord as we all have had to deal with until we just use the Monster without headphones. I feel these headphones are very comfortable  and block out external noises very well and they have a volume control on the side as well. I have the proto type as I have been asked to field test these wonderful headphones by DetectorPro.I will let everyone know when they will be available for purchase. 20180524_210406.thumb.jpg.1209b2794508a9e70d241f4843ce35b6.jpg

  9. Lunk, it was nice meeting you and Steve as well. After you left and I ate dinner I got out my torch and hydro shocked those rocks to get the gold out. Something to do back at camp. I was too wiped out to want to go detecting any more sat evening. I will be glad when my other spots open up from the snow load. If you are up for a trip to Avon let me know. Should  be another two or three weeks. That will give me time to replace my entire suspension on my tacoma.

  10. If you go with the 705 you most definitely need to get the 6" DD HF coil and the 15" DD HF these two coils are absolutely essential for gold nuggets. The Xterra705 is very good for tailing piles with the 15 coil. I will be using my 705 this weekend on tailing piles from a dredge and some piles on a hydraulic dig. I will grid off a section at a time with surveyors twine  to make sure I cover the ground thoroughly with sensitivity reduced to where it is quiet with no ground chatter. I want to be able to hear the faintest real target signal. After this is complete  I will research the area with the sensitivity set to max of 30 for the depth and listen for the very distinct target signals through the chatter. These signals should be always repeatable no matter which direction you swing the coil over them.

  11. That's a great first nugget Scott. A big congrats to you. The first one is always the hardest to find. You will see all the rest will be easier to find and when you start finding them, your old methods of finding gold will most definitely be a thing of the past. Thanks for letting me know that Thompson Pass is open now.

  12. Vince, that is some very nice gold and the Goldmonster 1000 is amazing at finding small gold nuggets exactly like the pics  you showed all of us. It is easy to use and learn. The coil is waterproof, at least the 5 inch coil is for sure.  the control box is not. That bedrock is outstanding for trapping gold. What exactly is the meaning of Gallia Aurifera? You have me completely intrigued  with gold from France. I had no idea France  was so rich in gold. Here are some nuggets I found with my Gold monster 1000.

  13. I have been using this jug of acid for 3 years now and to this day when I take the cap off, Smokey fumes will rise out of the jug. It is some very potent  acid for cleaning gold and quartz. I use to use a mixture of Hydrofloric and phosphoric acid to completely eat away the quartz and as soon as specimen was put in the acid the quartz started dissolving. I got rid of this particular acid after I had a very close call when my hand jerked to the side  and it splashed out of the container. The acid was running down the chemical glove and came about an inch or two from dripping onto my arm. That was enough to scare the Hell out of me, so I just stick to the acid in the picture. If I want to get rid of the quartz then I hydro - shock it. I heat  the specimen up till the quartz is glowing orange. Then drop it in cold water. Repeat the process til you get it the way you like it. After that I will give it the acid bath. If you have it in acid for 1 week then you need to neutralize it in a strong solution of baking soda water for triple the time it was in acid. If you dont it won't  effectively neutralize the acid.
