  1. My buddy and claim partner got a hell of a nice score yesterday on our 2nd claim that we just purchased last week. Both of our claims have big gold.
  2. Dealers can't be testers for Minelab anymore from what I was told. Conflict of interest.
  3. I will pass. Holding out for the 8000.😁. Oh by the way a friend up here in Montana is selling his claim. Very rich claim with big gold nuggets. Fairly close to my claim but way richer than my claim. I will be putting some pics and more info on the classified section next Friday. This will be only for the serious buyers. $110,000. It has never been worked, except detecting a little while by him. Old timers never found this deposit.
  4. That was a good story of what happened to you General Mayhem. I got a really good visual of the incident. Where abouts are you from north of me?
  5. Didn't go detecting today. Instead I sorted out an ounce of gold and got it cleaned up with CLR. Sure came out pretty. This ounce is paying for my share of our new claim we are buying. Had a hell of a hail, thunder, rain storm an hour ago or more. Did a number on the road into the gulch.
  6. Got 6 small ones today. I am liking this coil. It is sensitive for sure. EMI wasn't too bad today. Even with EMI you know when you have a target. Even when it doesn't repeat both directions, and is incredibly faint, it will get the tiniest pieces of gold. If Coiltek is reading this, you really should bevel the bottom edge of your coils. It makes a huge difference, preventing coil from catching on everything.
  7. I know what you mean with camping in the back yard. The back yard at my son's mom's place had a black bear and cubs a month or two ago, right in town. The high river prevented her from getting her cubs across so she just hung out in the neighborhood till the fish and game got them back across the river. I had a good day. Lots of iron and wire and 1 nugget.
  8. I had to move my camp 50 feet because a miner/rancher was complaining about me camped where I was since May 22 to the BLM cops, so the nice cops came back and said just move 50 ft towards the creek and you will be good til end of September. Well that flying squirrel moved with me. 😆🤣. He is active at night and has big eyes. He reminds me of something you would see in Australia. Check out the heart on the big nugget I got yesterday. I just noticed it last night. Back up today to get some more yellow metal 😊🪙. Y'all be good and have a great day.
  9. Im looking forward to getting the 7"x12.5" Nugget Finder and 10x16. It is crunch time with getting the gold before I head south at end of October. I have a goal of another 1 - 1.5 oz. This camping in griz territory is stressful. I have been camping amonst them since May 22 and all the critters I have had to deal with is annoying and taking a toll on my moral. Fly's trying to get into your ear canal constantly, mosquitos, silk worms, millers, centipedes, other types of worms, mice, a northern flying squirrel woke me up last night. It was on top of my tent at the peak 10' high chewing and scratching. I first thought it was a bear outside my tent getting into something, until I realized the noise was coming from the top of the tent. Then I smacked the roof panel of the tent with the broom and a couple minutes later you could hear it walking down the fabric and jumping back onto the tree behind the tent. It ate the screen mesh of one of my tent windows a month ago or so.
  10. Well "Smaug's Gold" my claim, has alot of EMI and there is no avoiding it. Some days are better than others. I will need to observe it over the next several days detecting with it. There is alot of smoke in the air up in these mountains and alot of airplane traffic. Might be that, might be solar flares. I don't know, but it is getting gold on ground 2-3 of us have pounded with 3 6000's using the 11" and 17". I suppose each coil they make could vary on how hot each one is. Perhaps I have a hot 🔥 coil. I don't know if that is possible but I am liking it. It feels almost twice as heavy as the 11". I really love the Minelab 17" coil. It's gotten me alot of gold. I'll let y'all know if coming days it quiets down.
  11. Got my new Coiltek 9x14 mono GoldHawk yesterday and this morning I went up to my claim. I got a slow start getting onto gold and was thinking I may not like this coil. The last part of the day, I hit the first nugget, and I thought, it's about time. After that the nuggets just kept coming. It is noisier than the 11" and 17" Minelab coils and it falses alot. Tried several sensitivity settings and had to do a factory reset twice and noise cancel a few more times, but each time I passed over one, it heard it.
  12. Trevor, I just received my 9x14 GoldHawk and was wondering if it is flat wound, bundle wound or a combo of the two?
  13. Geof_junk, that is what I saw about his pick as well. The guy at Apex claims that their picks are precision engineered and that they wont take any gold hunter's tips to make them better because they make the best pick. 🤣 Hahahaha. I will take an Australian made pick any day over an Apex. I will be ordering some Osage Orange handles for mine and my buddy's picks. Hands down there is no other wood better for pick handles than Osage worldwide.
  14. Got another 7 today. Wow my patch is still giving them up. My buddy's Apex didt last long. He got it 4-5 months ago.
  15. Got 13 today. 1.58 grams. Forgot my knee pads so I decided to just re-search my old open area. The 6000 impresses me every day. It has some quirk's but it is getting me gold every day, even in areas I thought I had hunted it to death. I am looking forward to hunting it with the coiltek 9x14, come Friday. I couldn't wait for the NF coils to come in. I will get those when they do.
  16. I got only 1 nugget today, but it was a nice one. 2.7 grams. Oh yah, I also knelt in fresh cow sh_t twice today digging targets. 😆🤣. Ended up getting it all over my knee pads, my pants, my pick, my detector and my hands. I was very pissed at these cows.
  17. I have heard there is an 8000 in testing phase with Minelab. I was also told that a full power 8000 cannot be sold in the states because it messes with airplane instruments. So the states will receive a reduced power model. From what I was told it is an amazing machine.
  18. One more thing I am hunting areas previously pounded. Every location. I have a new saying for myself, an area isn't hunted out until I hunt it a good month with the 6000. And too my surprise the 6000 is still pulling gold out.
  19. I am starting to think that some of why the 6000 is so touchy with emi is what they had to do to expand the sensitivity upwards to hit gold other detectors miss including the 7000. As Oneguy used to call it "The Wild 6000" is fitting. Every day at my claim "Smaug's Gold" emi will usually cut your day short around 2-3 pm because it gets so bad. Oftentimes we just hunt right on through it. We are still hitting the gold, dispite the emi. We have 4 Gpx6000's running at different times and some days all 4 at same time. We have to take turns digging and detecting as we are digging in an area 90 feet/4 6000's. The 6000 is a beast and dispite my early hipe against it in January/February 2021 and my defective detector and coil, this is by far the most amazing gold getting detector I have ever seen or used. I will be starting a Channel on YouTube called Smaug's Gold Adventures and there will be plenty of feedback on the amazing skill and pedigree of the 6000. I am a firm believer in the 6000. I would not have near the gold I have if it weren't for the 6000. The little pile with the bright white quartz in the center is gold found with the 5000/Gold Monster and Equinox and all the other piles are the Wild 6000. Over 300 nuggets with my 6000 just since March.
  20. Got 5 nuggets yesterday for 2.3 grams. 35 grams for here so far. Got 49 days left to reach my goal of 2 oz for here.
  21. Thanks Lanny. I forgot about bear boards. I might have to give that a try.
  22. The day before yesterday I found out the bear was a juvenile grizzly. I gave a training to a guy who is a very experienced hunter and tracker and he found some tracks by the wall of the tent that were a smaller grizzly. He described the direction it came in to the tent and how it wheeled around and took off. I said that is exactly what I recall what happened. Amazing he was able to describe the scenario from the tracks. He said knowing it was a griz, you really should get an electric fence. He also said the shots you fired off from your gun will bring grizzlies in unlike blacks. He said if a griz comes into your camp, they will get more and more bold to keep doing it. Got 10 nuggets yesterday at the Utopia claim we are working. Not as good of gold as Smaug's Gold but gold none the less.
  23. Last night was a drama heart pounding night. I climbed into my cot to go to sleep and I heard something walking on other side of the creek and then standing in the creek. Then I heard foot steps on a tarp I have bunches up next to one side of the tent. I eventually went to sleep and at 1:50 in the morning my 16' diameter 10' tall tent started shaking big time on one side of it. I jumpy up out of my sleep and grabbed my Judge and thought, "well here we go! It's go time." A bear was trying to go through the side of my tent. Not sure if a griz or black. Not tracks outside as I am camped on tailing piles pushed out flat with a pile to one side of the tent. My trip alarm is going back up in a few minutes. Tonight will be interesting to say the least.
