  1. The counterweight definitely helps with the 11” and 11x13” coils.  I got a custom straight shaft for my Deus 2 from Steve with the counterweight option.  I have the 9”and 11” coils.  The 9”coil is fine without the counterweight.  I tried the 11” coil both without and with the counterweight.  The counterweight definitely makes a big difference for me with the 11” coil. I am using a total counterweight of 13 oz..

Beautiful stone, and you captured the star very nicely!  As an Oregon State grad, I may have been in that park (but probably before I got a metal detector...). I have been swinging an XLT for the last 25 years or so and I’m looking to upgrade. I’ve pretty much decided on the Deus II with a 9” coil.  I understand the tether and remote connection are issues.  However, I noticed you’re an old XLT user, so I wanted to ask what are the main issues you had transitioning to the Deus II?

I worked at OSU for 30+ years and retired from there in 2001.  I started metal detecting in 2001 and my first detector was the XLT.  I still have one but I don’t use it much anymore.  The detector I was using before the Deus 2 was the Deus, so I didn’t have any problems transitioning to the Deus 2.  Before that I was using the Equinox 800.  I don’t know why people keep saying that the Deus and Deus 2 are too complicated .  I didn’t have any problems figuring them out, and I am not very technologically knowledgeable.

Really nice find...notching to 50 is a good bet. I got a  little gold ring (under 2 grams) with the deus 2 this summer that was a 48. I'll have to start using the Deus 2 in some parks it seems (if I can put down the Manticore) . Thanks for posting such a nice find...how much did it weigh?

    strick

    It weighs 3.6 grams.

  4. I hunt mostly parks and schools in my area.  There is not a lot of relic hunting to do here.  Iron is not a big problem here, but I like to hear it.  I have the iron volume set at 2.  Bottle caps are a problem, and I have the bottle cap reject set at 3.

  5. I have never used coil covers for many years on any of my detectors, including the Deus and Deus 2.  I have never had a problem caused by not using a coil cover.  I am careful not to scrub the ground with the coil, and where I hunt is mostly grass or wood chips.  I do carry a coil cover in my vehicle, so in case I am going somewhere where it is really rocky, or to the beach, I can quickly put it on the coil.

  6. If he had just responded to my inquiry messages, explaining that he was behind on orders, or on vacation, or feeling under the weather or any other reasonable explanation, and that my order was still coming, I would have been fine with that.  But to just ignore me was not OK.   I felt that my only recourse was to go through PayPal and start a claim with them. And that’s when I finally got a response from him with tracking information.

  7. On June 21 I ordered a locking shoe for my Deus 2 and I paid extra for 2 day shipping.  It has now been 2 weeks and I still have not received the item.  I have sent them 2 messages and haven’t received any response.  Has anyone else had a problem receiving their order from detecting doodads?  At this point I am going to contact them through PayPal and request a refund.  I don’t know what is going on with them, but their customer service stinks.

  8. My XP Deus ll on a Andersons detector shaft and lower rod.  I like it!!  I had to modify  the Andersons shaft a little bit.  Even in the last button hole it was way to long for me.  I am not a tall person.  I almost sent it back because if you don't use the button holes the only thing holding the lower rod is the little thumb screw on the side and it is not strong enough to keep the coil from moving around.  I happened to remember that I had a Pluggers shaft lock that I had purchased several years ago.  So I removed the Andersons shaft lock and replaced it with the Pluggers.  So now I can adjust it wherever I want without using the button holes.  I also used a Dremel tool to make the end that attaches to the coil smaller so it doesn't rub on the top of the coil.

  9. I just did the. .07 update and I had to re-pair the ws6.  And I lost all my custom programs, so I have to do them all over again.  Are we going to have to go through this every time there is an update?  It is a pain in the rear if we have to do this every time.
