I have a buddy that purchased an AT Pro 5 years ago and he used it about 20 hours total and it's been in his closet for the rest of the time. He asked me if I could help establish a value on it so he could sell it so I figured I'd ask the Garrett Forum folks for advice. Stock Coil, headphones etc.

Regardless of machine most people walk over gold and don't dig the iffy targets on the beach based solely on VDI's. In the wet sand at depth every ring I've recovered usually grunted as iron on my Nox until a scoop or two of sand was removed and a clearer picture/tone/VDI developed. If you want the gold you need to be prepared to dig it all and ID the find yourself. My beaches are mostly always sanded in somewhat so the chance of making a wet sand find with a clear tone and ID on the first pass is as a rare as getting a Deus II in the first shipment. A repeatable iron tone is a digger. 

Very sorry for your loss but this is a great place with really great people so I hope you stick around and continue to share your detecting triumphs.

Same here. I'm hoping some folks ahead of me on the list have decided to opt out of the initial go around but that Calabash guy  keeps putting out great content. It may be months if he doesn't stop before I get mine.

I had an MDT. I could not get used to the machine for anything. I never meshed with it and after 30 hours of use I sold it. I'm not an engineer minded type which is what I felt a person needed to be to use the MDT. I'm hopeful the D2 is more turn on and go like the Nox is. If I overthink it I ruin it and that's what the MDT did to me. 

Welcome Gary! You are a credit to the industry. XP is lucky to have you as a spokesperson. While I wait for mine to arrive sometime this spring I can prepare by keeping track of your videos.

Thanks for the update. I would think since a lot of the testing videos seem to use the 9" we'd be seeing that one first but alas, we are set to wait a bit longer. 

I've been around detecting in Ventura County since the mid 90's. I'm not interested in a pissing contest to see who has more credibility. Your passive-aggressive nature and use of sarcasm is duly noted. Blanket statements are things people use when they lack credibility. All cops are bad, all teachers are bad. You have experience with some and you cast aspersion around all. You don't know me and I think at this point that is a good thing. 

Not to toot my horn but merely to show that there are many of us who do things with our metal detectors that don't involve jewelry. This is a link from my site from April 2020. I got a call from this fellow to see if I could help. Little did I know at the time the significance of the find and what I'd have to do to get there. Evidently had we not found the two seemingly insignificant parts they were going to have to shut down power between parts of Ventura and LA county in order to get the parts because Covid had caused shut downs and parts were weeks out and these two couplers meant power staying on or going out.

I got "paid" $150 for going off-road in my vehicle, climbing 2000 feet in elevation trying to beat a major rainstorm coming and then hanging on the side of hillside to find these rings. To assume any one of the ringfinders are A-holes is just plain stupid and juvenile. 

I'm a member of the Ringfinders and joined after years of people calling me to go find their friends rings for free. I liken it to owning a truck which I do and unfortunately get used to load, carry and transport other people's stuff and when I do you won't believe the number that will give me $10 for gas as if that is a bonus.

Some recoveries are easy and take minutes. Others can last hours or even days and require me getting up at 2am to hunt a low tide for a person who lost their ring in 3 feet of water while playing. It's a service just like having the plumber come out to snake your line after you screwed up and poured grease down it for months on end. It sucks that they charge $100 to come out and $200 to run their snake through but that's what they're good at and if we were good at it and had the equipment we'd do it ourselves. 

It always amazes me how many people jump up on their soapbox to ridicule people who have used their hobby to make some extra cash. So what if someone willingly asks for help and then willingly pays you for your help? I'm going out today to see if I can recover a 24k gold tennis bracelet that's been lost for a bit. At $4.69 a gallon plus a 35 mile ride to the beach there's plenty of cost in it for me. If I don't find it I eat all the cost and time. If I do find it I make someone's day and possibly a friend for life. Not a bad trade-off in my book. 

It seems more and more like the Equinox 800 release with less of a tease. If I recall correctly I think everyone who wanted one seemed to get it the first two weeks of February. I think we are looking at much the same especially if the final version is still not in the hands of the testers over here. The good thing is we get to learn a bit more from folks who are willing to share so we can hit the ground running when we do.

XP has the MI6 which will connect to your remote and allow you to hear the tone through your headphones. I have used the MI6 for years and it's my favorite pinpointer even though I haven't used it with an XP machine since I got it. I like it way better than the garrett and have the MI4 as a backup pinpointer.

It was shared with me that early Deus II's had shipped last week from overseas. I'm not near the top of anyone's list but I was wondering if anyone had been given dates or had one show up at the door this week. Best minus tide of the year is this Sunday afternoon and my Nox and I will be hitting it but I'll be wishing I had the D2. 

5 tone and dig it all, especially iron grunts that are deep in the wet sand. It's amazing how many targets clear up once I take a scoop of sand off the top. I keep my tones the same whether it is dirt, dry sand or wet sand so my ears are always tuned to the same sounds. Always hunt in AM as well.

 One thing about my wife she has not said a word about me buying metal detectors. On the other hand I thought the Amazon van that’s most of the time is parked in front of my house we own. I found out that’s not true they are making delivery to my wife.

 I guess you could say we both let that sleeping dog lie.

It sounds like you have a Proverbs 31 wife. You are blessed as am I with one. 

This may seem extreme in terms of an analogy but as I get older the reality of things becomes much clearer. My uncle bought a house in Big Bear 20 years ago to eventually retire to. Every year was going to be the last year to work and then he finally was going to have enough money to retire and move to his cabin home. 17 years later he was still not retired and was diagnosed with lung cancer and 4 months later he passed. He never got to live in his cabin he loved so much because he never felt he had enough. When I see people losing perspective today I always point them out to my kids (who are 30 and 24) and tell them not to be their uncle Jim. 

Metal Detecting is a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun. Every detector I have ever bought has been resold with little to no loss on my investment. The fun in new machines is the anticipation that this time I'm really going to clean up and find that ring, chain, or ancient silver coin. I'm buying a new Deus II as soon as someone says it's my turn on the list and if the legend turns out to be the next great thing I'll buy it too. Just don't tell my wife. 

I think the Deus II was created to be the best new detector for the professional all around treasure hunter who uses a metal detector. I think the Legend was created to be an alternative to the Equinox 800. People will buy the Deus II because they want the opportunity to up their game over what they have now. The Legend will be bought because folks who have a 600 or a Vanquish want an upgrade at a price they can afford. Having a legend and an 800 seems redundant to me. It'll be interesting to see in 6-9 months where things stand.

He could believe in the tooth fairy and I would still watch all of his videos on the Deus platforms. 

At one point I owned around 12-15 detectors at the same time. The excuse was always I wanted an extra one in case a friend wanted to go detecting. I told this to my wife and there was a time I began to believe the lie as well and then I decided enough was enough and I began to thin things out to the point I got down to an 800 and a 600. I just sold the 600 and will replace it with a Deus II so I'll just have the two detectors going forward. As I get closer to retiring from the classroom and we move out of CA, I look at everything under the idea of do I really want to move this. It's amazing what you can learn to live without. I still have 4 sand scoops though. You never know when you'll need an extra scoop. 

Man that sucks. I have the utmost respect for those that go fully submerged. Even in calm water with no visible current it's easy to see the struggle to stay down and then your detector takes a crap. It's a good reminder that no matter how deep and easy to use a machine is if it breaks it still sucks. Thanks for sharing the highs and the lows.

I mostly use my pulse detectors at the beach so I don't know what numbers platinum will come up as. Maybe someone here will answer your question - not even sure but guessing platinum is a "low" conductor?

I just found a mens platinum wedding band Friday when looking for a Rolex for a customer. It rang up a solid 13-14 on the 800. It was the first thing other than a bottle cap I have found that hit 14 on the Nox. It was 10.25 grams of platinum.
