I like turn on and go detecting with well engineered preset modes and a number of programs to cohoes from, and settings adjustments but not so much that you get overwhelmed like I do. I i certainly don’t want to ever have a detector that can almost identify the target in the ground , like a screen showing an icon of a coin or ring with a iron nail next to it. That level of information just takes all the enjoyment out of the process. for many years I was an active amateur astronomer and bought and made hi - performance telescopes. I even got into precision optics as a career. Finding astronomical objects of interest was very challenging, as was getting the right conditions to be able to observe them well. Then commercial telescopes and CCD cameras got so high tech it took all the fun and challenge out of the hobby in my opinion, and I got out of doing it. I’d hate for metal detecting technology to go the same route. Given that in many areas open to metal detecting have been hit hard already, detecting is more challenging than ever, and high performance detectors are helpful in eking out what’s masked and still to be found. Bottom line is: better technology good- too much technology bad. At least this is true for most of the hobby- the exception being maybe gold prospecting which can be considered a for profit pursuit for many.

I Got My Equinox 10" Elliptical Coil
relicmeister replied to Rick N. MI's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Very shoddy business practice to send loose in bag and no box or at least cardboard sleeve. just ragging cuz I’m still waiting for mine with no idea of when I might expect it. Anyone hearing of a sizable batch coming ? -
I’d have to say the Orx has been a successful venture for XP. But what comes next? Their R&D must be working on a next generation detector, so what direction do you think they will go? An incremental change in existing technology or a whole new direction? I haven’t a clue but I’m interested in what others think might be coming in the future, although right now I’m sure their focus is on getting their stock replenished after COVID

I agree with you, village. Negative comments on the Orx are about as common as hens teeth.

Any Word On Shipment Of Coiltek 10 X 5 Coils?
relicmeister replied to relicmeister's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Not going to expect my 10x5 until maybe mid May if not later, due to the large pre order backlog- especially on the 10x5. At least I can watch for user reports and either look forward to getting it or cancel in unlikely event the reports are not very good -
Hope you can figure it out. Need to do something like a reboot- power down and restart. If remote won’t turn off try plugging in the charger see if that stops it. sometimes it will take a long time to return to coil mode when you turn off the Mi6. I don’t pair mine up to the remote anymore, mainly cause I want my detector on even when I’m using the Mi6 so I can run the coil over the plug or hole if the pp doesn’t pick up the target on the first try. I’d pair it up if the detector didn’t turn off during pp use but it’s not made for that

Search Coils For Minelab Equinox 800
relicmeister replied to sapper091's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
After seeing back orders could take 6-8 weeks I contacted my dealer where I have mine preordered for an update, hoping to find out something particular to my order status. All I got was confirmation that it could be as long as 6-8 weeks. That’s disappointing but as I’ve been waiting a couple years fii is r an intermediate size coil, a couple months or less isn’t forever- and maybe I’ll get surprised. I’m not exactly hurting for MD equipment after all. The 5x10 will replace the 6” on my collapsible 600, and I have the 11” on my other 600 with foldable carbon fiber shaft. I hate switching out coils so this way I just switch out detectors. Exception to that rule is my Orx, which uses either the 9” hf or 11” X35 and my Deus Lite which uses either 9” or 11” X35. -

Here’s My Solution To The Equinox Balance Issue
relicmeister replied to NCtoad's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I switched from adding weight to a bungee tether attached to the arm cuff strap. It seems to pull the coil directly up the axis of the shaft as compared to attaching it to the handle. But alternatively I have a weight that can be pressed into the shaft end, but I prefer not adding weight. -
Where I preordered anticipated ship date is March 28. Has anyone’s been shipped yet?, Does anyone have reliable information? I’m only impatient when I’m waiting for something, lol

Now Here Is A Balanced Equinox 800!
relicmeister replied to Rick N. MI's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Hi Rick, Looks nice. I bought one of those too. Very lightweight and nice- except for the cheap lower rod part. I had my 2nd Nox w/ 6” coil mounted on this shaft. Was nice, but I then went to the carbon fiber monopole that Steve H. First tried. I might use it for my other Nox w/11” coil, but not sure. good luck with it. -
Initially I wasn’t planning to get the elliptical coil 5x10 because I have my 600 with the 11” coil, and my other 600 with the 6” coil. But then I began thinking ( uh oh) I go out armed with only one detector at a time, and when it’s with the 6” coil, I’m limited to the iron infested home site areas and disinclined to venture beyond with the tiny footprint of the 6” coil. But with the 5x10 elliptical, I can hit the iron infested area and also meander beyond because I don’t feel like I’m painting a wall with a tiny paint brush. so I have mine pre ordered due to ship in jabout a week. After I use it a while, I’ll decide whether or not to sell the 6” coil. I’m not a fan of having extra unmounted coils. The 5x10 would simply replace the 6”

Just jumped onto the Coiltek 10” X 5” elliptical I Hi Pre-order train. I have two equinox 600’s One has the 11” coil and the other has the 6” round and it’s on the telescoping carbon fiber shaft. It’s a laser at Separating higher conductors from dense iron, but the extremely limited ground coverage gets old quick. I think The new elliptical will be an awesome coil on the Nox Really looking forward to it

Hi kac balance IS more important than weight, i agree with you there. And I have that option whic is an old hose nozzle topped with a chunk of colonial lead covered in black tape and when pressed into shaft end sticks out 4” and perfectly offsets the 11” coil my simple bungee is just an option and I can use either one I just wanted to show others that the arm cuff strap improves the lift angle compared to where folks usually attach it, which induces wrist strain I might use a combination of counterweight and bungee tether when I use the 13 x 11 coil I just ordered for my Orx I’m not planning on getting the 15” coiltek NOX coil with my folded Nox shaft, another thing I can do is lock the fold one click up from straight which now puts the coil center ahead of the shaft axis mimicking the offset of an s-shaft which helps alleviate nose heaviness ive posted about this when I described the folded shaft I’d link to the thread if I knew how Relicmeister

New Equinox Coils From Coiltek
relicmeister replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
As I stated recently in a different thread, I want to recommend something to ease the swinging burden of nose heavy big coils. Start with a unit like docs detector buddy, or get a 2” wide strap make a foot long loop at one end which arm goes through. The other end goes around shoulders and stops about a foot above detector arm cuff. Now add an 8” or so length of elastic or thin bungee to the strap end. Put attach a hook at end of elastic with zip tie. Add a U-hook to center of arm cuff strap with zip ties. Now just Adjust the strap length until when hooked up the coil is suspended by the elastic 2” above the floor. Now the detector and coil will seem weightless. Attaching at the cuff strap provides perfect up-lift in line with axis of your arm, unlike when the strap attaches to the shaft or handle, which demands wrist correction and effort. By using a hook the detector can be detached easily for target digging. -
I got me a g2+ a month ago but couldn’t use it due to all the snow. I’ve been out with it 4 times now and find that it’s quite a fun and effective detector to use for my main pursuit of relic hunting, along with the Nox and Orx w/ 9” hf. I think it’s a keeper. I bought a sharpshooter coil used but as I like the stock coil I just sold it for what I paid covering fee and shipping so no loss. I’m thinking of the superfly to use as the machine with the biggest coverage profile and depth possibly, and the lightness for sure is appealing. I didn’t care for the 12”x15” equinox coil. So I’m interested in any comments related to the superfly performance especially if on the g2 but if not on the t2 or f75. Price is fair like an added $110 to the invested $ I had on the sharpshooter. It’s not a must have and I don’t do fields and big open areas very often, so the Nox w/ 11” coil is fine really. Just looking for help deciding merits

Equinox Wireless Technology Poll
relicmeister replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I tried using the LLBT but don’t like over ear phones cause I need to hear the sounds of the woods and also the pinpointer. Wired is a pain to deal with so I avoid. I’ve managed using if I convert to coiled cord, but it’s still a pain. The ideal thing for me is WM 08 mounted on the visor of a cap and on ear back phones zip tied to the hat and plugged into the module. Everything stays snug, fully wireless, and keeps the module in direct view of the detector so it doesn’t cut out. This set up has proven to be the ideal one for me. -
I don’t use a shaft counterweight anymore with my 11” coil since trying this: ( and this would work with the 15”) I have a homemade version of a detector buddy bungee harness. They are meant to attach to the shaft under the pod handle and run around your neck and you put your left arm into it. This actually forces the coil down and in which makes you have to compensate with excess wrist force. So I shortened the strap and have a hook at the elastic end and it grabs a U- loop zip tied to the top of the arm cuff strap. Now the bungee force is directly upward and you get the true weight reduction with a relaxed wrist. The difference was immediately noticeable. With a hook and loop it’s easy to detach the tether even to dig every target if you want. It’s worth a try and if anyone wants pictures of the arrangement let me know and I’ll post them.

Equinox Price Increase ????????
relicmeister replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
What I’m curious about is the amount of increase. I say curious cause I’m set with my two 600s.
