Thanks for the helpful response. I got mine on eBay barely used for $30.

Thanks for the reply,phrunt (Simon?)
I’m not quick on electronics or computers. I’ll give it another try after work. There’s a lot I like about the Legend even though I’ve only had it out once so far, it’s a nice compliment to my main swing- Deus 2

I just got the pair I Bought on the eBay. They seem great but I’m not having any luck pairing them. I long pressed pinpoint while in Bluetooth mode to unpair the Nokta headphones, and then while in BT mode with Bluetooth on(setting 1) I got the Torus into pairing mode but nothing happened. Is there a step I’m missing to put the Legend in pairing mode also? Bc the headphone icon up top isn’t flashing - it’s just steady on. I had no trouble at all pairing the Nokta phones.
The Avantree didn’t come with manual.

I just bought a pair of the avantree torus on eBay auction for $30. I think they’re $79 or so new. These will suit me better than the headphones and I’ll be able to hear ambient sounds.

Today I updated my new Legend software from the 1.05 it came in with , to the latest and greatest V 1.11. Ran like a charm the only hitch being the need for getting the IT administrator to sign onto the installation of the driver. Good timing for the update as I will be able to use for the first time tomorrow. Looking forward to being out detecting as it’s been 4-5 weeks since it’s been possible on a weekend.

The Avantree Torus is my go to, haven’t used my headphones or earbuds since I started using them, they work great and so comfortable I forget I have them on.
The Nokta phones are fine, but I very often hunt in woods where I feel extremely vulnerable if I can’t hear external sounds. Even my Deus back phones I wear such that I’m able to hear my surroundings. That’s much harder with over ear headphones.

I see a pair called Avantree Torus - different spelling related to the geometric shape- not the Astrological sign. I think it’s the one you mean? 5.0 BT and aptx LL ..

It seems spring ( February) is over and winter
( March) has arrived, lol. all the recent nice days have been work days.
No worries though, I’ll soon be back to regular detecting. I usually will take a new detector to a location I’m thoroughly familiar with, have made many finds, but were these days few and far between. When I first used my Deus 2 in such a location I found a trime in a very trashy spot.-

I too would recommend going to V1.11 when you can, the M3 alone is worth it. But V1.05 was real good too.
Thanks. I downloaded the updater today and
might try the update on Friday.

I believe chrome book will work if windows has been installed on it but it isn’t on mine and I have no intention of installing it.
I’m sure I’ll manage the update successfully.
other than the expanded coil options, it will be nice to have an alternative to my main detector (Deus 2). I do believe the legend might outperform the Equinox 600 that I had for 2 1/2 years, which worked well for me but I sold it to I. Part fund the Deus2. -
Just arrived today sporting the V 1.05 version.
Slapped it together right away and quite satisfied overall. My LG 24 will follow tomorrow. As I got a terrific deal I sprang for a control cover , the one with colored buttons. Not to be cynical but I intend to keep it tip top for possible sale if I choose to, as In should I have my eye on something else. My main swing is the Deus 2 with 9” w/ WS6 master, and 11” w/ remote. The legend gives me an elliptical coil and the 6”- plus it’s always ready to dunk in the water if I get the opportunity.
So how does V 1.05 stack up against subsequent upgrades? I must say I dread the update process. Does anyone know if I can use my chrome book , or is that a negative?
First things first, I need to familiarize myself with the menu and settings.
After a really mild winter, the weather has turned colder with more snow, but I should still be able to give it a run this weekend.
Cheers-

Legend on the way coming Tue 3/7. It’s a pro pack and I also ordered the LG24 which will be the primary coil, but that will follow when they are back in stock. Hope it comes with V1.09 or V1.10 because updating has to be done at work and I want a couple weeks to have the IT admin ok the download of the updater utility. If there’s any problems with the update and the antivirus has to be turned off ( as suggested if problems arise ) that could be a problem. Anyway, I’m looking forward to having the Legend as a complement to the Deus 2 and looking forward to regular detecting outings with spring nearly upon us.
The deciding factors in getting it came to the positive reports from legend users and getting it at a price well under current msrp even with the lg24. added in. Had I unlimited funds I’d have maybe chosen the equinox 900-

You can be sure that the top half dozen metal detector companies will do everything in their power to offer us the next big thing that is too tempting to resist for many of us!, while making sure there’s still room for further improvement so that there is a reason for them to continue to thrive as a company. It’s also true that technological and other advancements come along in industry that are then incorporated in future models - it never really ends, does it?
While the Deus 2 is the only detector I presently have, I’ve owned I guess about 12-15 metal detectors, many of which I’d still probably find suitable but sold - not because I didn’t find them useful, effective orenjoyable to use- but because they funded some other model I really wanted. I think 3 alone were sacrificed to enable me to get my Deus 2.
Let’s face it - part of the fun of this hobby is the thrill of acquiring new equipment, and we play into the advertising hype to an extent possibly to justify the expense of yet another new machine.
Oh the shame of it all.-

As far as complimenting the D2, Legend is not really going to bring anything to the table that you can’t already get with the 800. And to be frank, I really haven’t really seen the need to pull out the 800 or Legend much since I started swinging the D2 despite also owning the 10x5 coil for the 800 or the LG24 coil for Legend. If I was starting from scratch, I might go D2 + Legend for max value or D2 + Nox 900 or Manticore if price was no object.
Now Legend might be worth it if your 800 is well beyond warranty, but like I said, if you are primarily swinging the D2, the 800 is fine and Legend will just be the competent shiny new toy but not a game changer.
I find the Legend to be jam packed with great features and great ergonomics. But with that comes a less intuitive interface with a lot of secret key combinations to pull up the features they keep adding onto it and settings that you really need to understand because it is not clear that the added filters are necessarily optimal even if you just leave them at the defaults.
Frustratingly, Nokta also decided to make the keypad matte black with raised matte black symbology marking the key functions. You will likely have to paint on highlights to make it easier to see the keypad key functions or get the Nokta protective cover that has the key pad symbols highlighted.Still learning the Legend and the new LG24 coil, but really haven’t clicked with it yet. I blame that mostly on the great success I am having with the D2 rather than any real shortcomings with the Legend. I am having the same lackluster bonding with my new Nox 900. They are each fine detectors, that are just both overshadowed by the D2 for what I do most, mid-Atlantic relic detecting and summer beach hunting.
Just my 2 cents.
You’re 2 cents are most appreciated , Chase.
By the way, I really need to update my forum profile because the only detector I presently own is the Deus 2. I honestly think it does everything I need and was only considering the Legend to add some variety to my detecting gear, and because the price offered is so reasonable. The 900 and Mcore are both definitely more than I’m willing to spend on my hobby at the present time. -
I’m about to pull the trigger on a legend PP and LG24 coil but the complicated nature of the menu has me a little intimidated. I’m a seasoned detectorist but not one to utilize the full range of settings and adjustments. I tend to cling to stock programs and adjust only the main settings such as sensitivity, disc, tones, recovery. If I’ve been comfortable with the Equinox, Deus and my current machine Deus 2, will I be frustrated by the Legend? Is it a good complement to Deus2?
Comments appreciated -
The lighter weight s-shaft ( Orx shaft) with 9” coil and WS6 master is pretty darn light and compact and i have the remote with the 11” on the stock Deus 2 shaft and the ( sloppy) 3-D printed remote lock. I don’t use either in the water so they work well enough though I’m still tempted to get Steve’s setup. For an actual second detector my dealer has agreed to let me reinstate my order for a Legend Pro pack at $509 and I’d also grab a 9” x 6” elliptical coil which I is my favorite coil size. I hear so many praises for the Legend and while I like what I see with the Quest V80 it’s up there in price and I’m not wild about buying a major Chinese product.
Am I right F350 that you have a legend? If so do you like it particularly on relic hunting? -
Although not immediately, i have been tempted and am seriously considering your ( Steve g.) shaft system for all Deus 2 configurations. It does appear to be the ultimate as pointed out by F350Platinum in his review. Currently the Deus 2 with 9” & 11” coils and remote or option to use WS6 as master with WSA2 phones is the only detector I have.

I have separate shafts for my Deus 2. I have the lightweight shaft for the 9” coil and WS6 master, and I have the Deus 2 shaft for the 11” coil and remote. They both share WSA 2 headphones.
The 9” setup is a real featherweight although after a long day swinging I get an ache in my forearm. This is not due to weight but imbalance, but it’s not enough to need a shaft counterweight- although it’s easy to add a few ounces to the arm cuff stand.
The 11” w/ remote setup while not heavy feels much more imbalanced because it is. I therefore decided to add weight to the stand which came in the form of a relic- a lead bar weighing about8 -10 ounces( Estimated as I don’t have a scale). I just used black gorilla tape to secure it to the stand. I can’t wait to try it out because the difference in comfort is night and day.
I highly recommend doing this for the 11” coil and absolutely if you use the 11”x13” coil. A simple enhancement can have a great impact. Your forearm will thank you.-

What US dealers are going to sell the Quest V60 and V80 packages? These have gotten my attention. Also, could someone explain to me what is the “ dongle” and couldn’t they find something else to call whatever it is?lol
what is the main difference between V60 and V80? Thanks

Thanks Doc Bach,
I think all diggers find that they just seem to have a knack for finding a particular relic or thing, and for me locks has been one of those things. I certainly don’t have a similar knack for finding gold ! Although, where you detect definitely plays a big role - I don’t detect parks or schools often, and I don’t live near the beach. By the way I’m not sure padlocks are even really considered big irons, the way axe heads are far r example- but I do love finding them.

Good LL cliff490. You will Not be disappointed. Good advice given here. Did you mention which coil you got ? I have both but use the 9” mostly. Although for the first few months I only had the 11” and did great with it. The backpack is awesome too.

I’m going to follow this thread with interest as some of my favorite finds of all time are in the big iron range. When I was new to metal detecting I found a 7 lb iron cannonball from the revolutionary war in the area where the iron was mined and a foundry existed. I’m thinking there should be a way to not only tell big iron from nails and small irons and a way to get a hint of the basic shape from the character in of the signal. Certainly the higher tones and how far you can raise the coil and still hear the signal can give you an idea of the size. I tend to use sensitive full tones and general most but wonder which program would be most suited when searching for big iron. This past Saturday was nice enough to get out - my best find was this old padlock which I already added to my old lock wall display ( which is actually quite impressive- holding about 20 old locks mostly 1800s early 1900’s and one from 1700’s.

Help Pairing Avantree Torus ?
in Nokta / Makro Legend Forum
Posted
Got ‘em paired up -thanks for the help.
These are indeed going to work out well. It’s nice to have the neck speaker option. I’m thinking about a similar arrangement for work depending on battery life.
