  1. The equinox will be the first detector I'm going to have from the moment of release. I knew from the time I first saw the detectival video that I would have one, even though I had to sell my Safari in order to have the funds early enough to be early on the preorder list. I'm looking forward to using the equinox while contributing to and following the user knowledge base, especially this forum.

  2. Thanks, Steve. I will certainly be in the iron- laden spots much of the time, but not all.  The fact that you like them says a lot, It is my preference to use the aptX and  to keep a pair of lightweight wired headphones I can use if the aptX  run out before I'm done detecting, I do want to try wired phones with the wm 08 module simply because I can, although I assume the module has limited charge time too.

I'm really looking forward to being untethered to the EQ. I've never used anything but wired headphones.

While on the subject, although I have no intention of using the detector speaker, I assume doing so would significantly shorten battery run time?

  3. Why I want Equinox

    multi-freq. or separate-frequency.

    Depth with accurate ID

    fast and adjustable recovery

    adjustable tone breaks

    ground balance tracking

    wireless headphones

    waterproof, durability, lightweight

to unmask good colonial targets in iron-strewn sites and all other terrain and to do more fresh water detecting.

  4. Thanks everyone for the great replies. I have two takeaways

    I. I am feeling a bit of site-envy after reading Randy's excellent post and

    2. Based on many of the comments I'm thinking we may give Equinox a case of performance anxiety!

Hopefully, the long arduous wait will soon be over, and we can move on from speculation to reality based postings

Our Caribbean travel group have 8 units on order!  We're hoping the NOX is good enough to replace our Excaliburs.  Especially since it seems to behave so well in wet salt sand in the video.  I would like to see it performing waist deep in saltwater.  But things are sure looking good.  I have already designed a customized NOX travel bag for myself to carry 2 detectors and 2 sets of waterproof headphones- Oh speaking of which again, ML told me to order water phones now!  Last time I inquired no dealer had a clue about the waterproof headphone availability and why I called ML.  Mine are on order So I can test NOX underwater as soon as possible.

I did everything possible to obtain an Equinox this month for our Jan 16th trip.  7 days in the sea for many hours daily would be a great test, and I expect the NOX to shine!  If not this trip will test next months trip, or when released.

As nice as the Equinox looks and hopefully will be for all our needs, it would be even better were it a folding design.  Imagine just folding an Equinox up and sticking it in your backpack!!!  The worst thing possibly about the Equinox will be... everyone will have or want one and there will be less treasure to find!!!!   Kidding obviously!

Chris, I have a folding mechanism ready to install on my Equinox. I did it first on my f75 and it's awesome. It's a $40 part and takes an hour to install. Only adds 5 oz. to detector weight.

  6. Steve, it's precisely because I know you will be thorough and objective in all your postings and articles about the Equinox, that this will be my number one forum for all matters related to the Equinox.  Further, I believe anyone that comes to this forum just to trash the equinox will be called out. I look forward to posting my own results and comments as I put my new equinox 800 into action. As I mentioned elsewhere in the forum, the equinox is the first detector I will be getting at first release, and I intend  to be fully involved in the process alongside everyone else.

  7. As the arrival of the Equinox nears I know what forum I will coming to as we start using  the Equinox in our main detecting locations. I'm curious what types of detecting environments people on this forum detect in. For myself I do a lot of woods hunting, celllar hole hunting with emphasis on colonial relics. I hunt fields whenever possible, and like to detect old parks and private permissions. Many of my best sites are iron/ laden and I'm hoping the EQX 800 will help unlock the finds I'm sure are still there.

  8. After I got my recharge unit from amazon I found that it fit perfectly in an old garmin gps storage sleeve. I got the idea of mounting it under the equinox arm but to fasten it there I will probably drill small holes in the plastic underarm (stand) and use 4" black zip ties to fasten the holder there. Then when I need to use it for recharging I just have to slip the charger in connect the cable and I'm off and running. I suppose anyone can design and offer something creative, but usually I come up with something of my own to solve the problem. Minor modifications that enhance detecting are especially fun.

  9. I bought already for backup power for the equinox a 9000 mAh charger that is about 21/2" x 31/4"  x 7/8" and weighing 7 oz

so I hope to attach a slip-in holder to the underside of the equinox arm rest so I'm not tethered to the detector when I'm charging on the run, and I'm hoping that placing it there will offset any nose heaviness in the overall balance.

Well that's the plan, and I can also use the charger on the Bluetooth headphones if they run low during an outing.
