  1. I have separate shafts for my Deus 2. I have the lightweight shaft for the 9” coil and WS6 master, and I have the Deus 2 shaft for the 11” coil and remote. They both share WSA 2 headphones.
The 9” setup is a real featherweight although after a long day swinging I get an ache in my forearm. This is not due to weight but imbalance, but it’s not enough to need a shaft counterweight- although it’s easy to add a few ounces to the arm cuff stand.
The 11” w/ remote setup while not heavy  feels much more imbalanced because it is. I therefore decided to add weight to the stand which came in the form of a relic- a lead bar weighing about

8 -10 ounces( Estimated as I don’t have a scale). I just used black gorilla tape to secure it to the stand. I can’t wait to try it out because the difference in comfort is night and day.

I highly recommend doing this for the 11” coil and absolutely if you use the 11”x13” coil. A simple enhancement can have a great impact.  Your forearm will thank you.

  2. Thanks Doc Bach,

I think all diggers find that they just seem to have a knack for finding a particular relic or thing, and for me locks has been one of those things. I certainly don’t have a similar knack for finding gold ! Although, where you detect definitely plays a big role - I don’t detect parks or schools often, and I don’t live near the beach. By the way I’m not sure padlocks are even really considered big irons, the way axe heads are far r example- but I do love finding them.

  3. Good LL cliff490. You will Not be disappointed. Good advice given here. Did you mention which coil you got ? I have both but use the 9” mostly. Although for the first few months I only had the 11” and did great with it. The backpack is awesome too.

  4. I’m going to follow this thread with interest as some of my favorite finds of all time are in the big iron range. When I was new to metal detecting I found a 7 lb iron cannonball from the revolutionary war in the area where the iron was mined and a foundry existed. I’m thinking there should be a way to not only tell big iron from nails and small irons and a way to get a hint of the basic shape from the character in of the signal. Certainly the higher tones and how far you can raise the coil and still hear the signal can give you an idea of the size. I tend to use sensitive full tones and general most but wonder which program would be most suited when searching for big iron. This past Saturday was nice enough to get out - my best find was this old padlock which I already added to my old lock wall display ( which is actually quite impressive- holding about 20 old locks mostly 1800s early 1900’s and one from 1700’s.

  5. I’m set to try out the following:  I keep the WS6 master on the stem using WSA II headphones. The remote is in a waterproof smartphone bag which is fastened to the top edge of my Gray Ghost ultimate catch all. It rests inside and when I need it I pull it up where it rests on top where I can see it and adjust it and where it is secured. I’m using the WSA II headphones when using the remote as well.

  6. I too have 9” and 11” coils, having started using the 11” only until the 9” became available. I think the 11” is ideal when I want greater coverage first plus depth section. It’s not heavy and works well in any environment. I still use 9” coil 80% of the time.

  7. I’d hunt farms in VA any time of year under any conditions which I had the opportunity, just  for the potential Colonial rewards it could bring. There is Colonial where we live but I was sparsely populated in the Colonial era making those kind of sites rare.

  8. Since I’m using the remote in a waterproof phone “bag” (Yes I know the remote is itself waterproof)attached with a carabiner to my gray ghost ultimate catch all pouch, I could use something wired via adapter, or even use the speaker in some cases the remote being fairly close to ear this way. I considered the WSA II XL but as I’m a big woods hunter I don’t like ear covering headphones for safety reasons.
As of present With  a single WSA II I can have paired both the  remote and WS6 puck and just share'the one pair of back phones.

  9. I purchased a pair of WSAII headphones so I could use the WS6 puck on one shaft w/9” coil, and a second shaft for 11” coil mostly using remote ( On the 9” I’ll use the remote at times and the WS6 other times. ) my question is if I bought another WSA II would I pair one to the puck and the other for the remote?  Could both be paired to remote or WS6 puck or both simultaneously?
I’m confused and would like to know if it makes any sense to get a second WSA II. There’s a convenience to having one for each (essentially) detector.

  10. On Christmas Day I ordered a Legend PP at the temporary lower price plus a loyalty discount just over $500 tax free. Was excited but guilt got the better of me and I canceled the order the day after Christmas ☹️
I bought a lot of detectors in the past couple years and must say it hasn’t done anything to improve my enjoyment or finds. The only detector I currently have is the Deus 2 ( w/ 9”&11” coils). I’ve decided to focus on this one machine and just my detecting. I still have plenty to learn on the Deus 2.
……. But it sure would’ve been nice to have a shiny new Legend, lol

  11. I’m confused. Is the master WS6 display different than the WS6 supplied on the full deus2 other than the stem mount and headphone adapter for the headset? My understanding is that with the full Deus 2 you can use the remote as master, or mount the puck on the stem ( with optional stem mount ) but I thought the only option then is wired headphones. Am I missing something?
I’d sometimes use this way assuming I didn’t have to be tethered via wired phones.

  12. Glad you like the Deus 2, Tim. I’ve pared-down to just the Deus 2 and it is serving me well. I’ve also made good finds at sites that stopped producing, some of them being great finds. My preferred programs are sensitive full and I’m increasingly using fast. I’m looking for ideas for custom relic programs, as of present I have one- using sensitive FT and the XY screen. Good luck as you use it more and at good sites

So this morning had everything disconnected and my machine was dead as a doornail. Not even enough battery to power on the unit. Thanks to all who double checked their machines. Will let everyone know how the return and replacement goes.

So it’s the remote that’s bad and needs replacement?

  14. Usually I need to hear ambient sounds so I don’t plan on getting these. Being a MD hacker, I might try making removable ear cups for the WS6 to make them sound more like over ear phones. The sound from the WS6 is great, but there are times it would be nice ( like noisy areas) if I find a good way to do this I’ll post the results with photos.  By the way if they ever make bone conduction work in wireless form, I’m all in for that.

  15. Welcome Tam

Scotland?  I’m sure I have a great many ancestors there as my Dads side is fully Scottish ( my surname is Stewart paternal grandmother, Ogg. ). I need to use Ancestry. Com and trace out my relatives. Anyway, I hope you find someone you can detect with. Anyone on this forum will be glad to answer any questions you have. Good luck with the Deus 2. The factory programs are quite good to begin with.

  16. I just put my spare essentially new Mi6 up for sale in D-P classifieds. I am keeping one and an Mi4 that I have. As I may have mentioned previously, I alternate between the Mi6 paired and the Mi4 ( which I prefer when there’s a high number of targets. Sometimes I leave it on getting 2-3 targets done before it turns itself off- I hold I. Under my arm Pit so it doesn’t sound off in between.  I I love the xp pinpointers and only use pitch mode. My only issue is with my Mi4 the volume seems a bit  low. I’d use the Mi6 unpaired before switching to different brand. It’s often advantageous to run the coil over the open hole if the PP isnt detecting the target- a quick pass with the coil helps, and you can’t do that paired unless you turn it off/on.
