  1. Well just when you think, you survived the storm..... Couple more feet and you can see what is going to happen ….. Not Cool ……. Looking like the 100 year Snow / Rain Run Off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Good hard days of work ( at 63 they are very hard days ), and then WHAM Mother Nature takes over again !!!
  3. Very Nice !!!! Could the source be near by ?? Doesn't look like it traveled to far .....
  4. OK I felt I should post a photo of my digger I bought at Hm. Depot, Just cut a bit off handle to fit me, and wrapped top of handle with padding so it is also comfortable to dig with.
  5. Right On !!!! It's about time you folks get back in the water !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Nice show, even if I mist it live ... go find some Stuff Steve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Nice Steve, thanks for posting your very nice finds & the settings.
  8. Steve please don't worry about hijacking thread, If you feel the urge please post the info.. Gonna try Field Mode in next couple days, snow is mostly gone and ground is thawing, gonna be trashy, but I think there is gonna be a few nice finds, even if I have to dig a bit of trash to find them. It's an old mining camp, no buildings on this site just open field, the bad thing in the early 70's thru mid 80's campers trashed the place, it has since been cleaned of above ground trash of ALL types and gated off, it's gonna be an ongoing hunt due to size of field & our beloved TRASH !!! But still have approx. a month before I get up to claim, and I did buy the 800 for it's coin & relic modes to give me something to do in spring / fall, so off I go .........
  9. Been messing with Sensitivity & Auto Grnd. Bal., yesterdays Beach / Park hunt produced a ton of crap till I started listening & moving around targets and did less trash digging ( I dug what I thought was trash & it was, Yeh !!! ) Did dig out a 1999 Hot Wheels Surf Crate & some coins oldest being a 1967 Qaurter. ( Did miss my first silver coin by 2 yr's. Dam !!! ) And yes that is the 800's Instruction Manual, I did print it out and I take it with, so I can reference the info for ?'s that come up during an outing. So thank you Steve, Chase, Norm, I believe this will be my last entry onto this thread, and will join with sharing decent finds and anything I might think would be useful info for someone else. Ken
  10. That makes perfectly good sense to me, as I think that is the next step in my learning curve for coin / relic hunting. I was wondering if I took some trash pc's and laid them out and tried to set tone and target ID #'s for trash and coins, for I have been over same area of beach a couple of times and now it's showing pretty much same trash every hunt. Does that sound like what one would try ? The rotary hammer was bought for my bedrock crevices on my claim, but figured why not try it to get to targets frozen in time, while I wait to get up the mountain, ( snow avalanches ) Really don't need extra weight on back. The lake beaches are thawed and creek banks are thawing quickly so hopefully won't need to carry hammer much longer. But it does do the job !!!!!!!!! Just trying to get into spots before water comes up. Some of my finds so far. Thanks for thinking I have a Brain !!!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Dialing with one hand, typing with the other !!! Haha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks
  12. OK how about a little update, snow is finally going away, but ground still frozen, but I take care of it with a killer rotary hammer. The thawed beach gave up my 1st nickel, but it didn't come easy, dug a bit of small melted aluminum pc's, they were giving the same VDI reading of around the 13 /15 range, but I was happy to see the nickel. I have been going over same area of beach as the 800 and I get more familiar. And I am finding more coins, nothing dated old, but some are pretty corroded, still learning the cleaning methods as I am new to coin and relic hunting. Took machine to one of many favorite gold hunting grounds in my back yard and found my 1st Gold picker / small nugget. I must say this was a great day, Can hardly wait to get the 6" coil, any updates on them ? I dug approx. 60 targets this day and I was tired and very sore the next day but boy what a smile I have thinking of the next hunt. Time on machine is everything !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Ok been out a couple more times trying different settings. Only have a couple places that have thawed out, and that work site is now a no go area ( Heavy Machinery ) So some spots on beach have been producing coins no nickels yet. You can see from photo still pretty frozen in my next of woods. But I am getting out. Also some charm bracelet pieces. So just wanted to thank those that gave me some hints, everything helps !!!
  14. OK I had to reboot, went down to lake that has been giving up some beach, went to beach mode and found 1 quarter about 6 inches deep, also 2 pennies 1 about 6 inches the other about 3 inches, now I can think again I found something, now maybe I can cool my jets. Will try the differant settings as you guys suggest in trashy area.
  15. Thanks guys, just fought my way up road to my claim looks like I will have at least another month to learn this detector, way too much snow & 3 avalanches, whole lot of melting has to happen. Everything you guys are posting makes sense to me, it's just the site is being cleared of all brush and some big old trees & trunks & roots. And I have a short window, and I am spoiled because I have my GB2 down pretty good find gold on my claim every year, so I am a bit anxious to get into coin and relic hunting, I have the sites all around me. Just don't want to miss out on ground that's being cleared. I just feel with all the old traffic around this area there should be a reward for going on information overload & pulling out what's left of hair. with all that said I will try turning sensitivity down, and then maybe try Park 2, Sensitivity 20, Iron Bias 2, Speed 7 as I am using an 800. Only have coup[le days left to work this site after that I will chill and work & learn more causuaully. I do appreciate all help.
  16. Thanks Steve & mn90403, looks like from reading Steve's suggested post I see that I am in the right direction with my learning curve, I not that far from taking next step with machine, too bad I don't think I'll have it right for this site before they backfill and lay pavement, but I'll keep trying till the end at this site, who knows what I may or may not find, I just know you can't learn or find any thing with machine in bag !!!!! THANKS
  17. Thanks Steve, wasn't sure if I was posting correct but needed to get it out there. You know of this area I speak and am trying to work. Thx
  18. I forgot to mention that I have to use a Milwaukee Rotary Hammer with a 2 chisel bit to dig anything over an inch, spring is coming slow here ground still frozen.
  19. Need a little help . Been out with the 800 3 times for approx. 2 hrs each hunt. I am in a great spot land being cleared for pavement. But back in 1848 a Russian named Peter Doroshin came through area & American Settlers came later all using this area to move up river & rivers. So a lot of old camping & hunting & gold camps in area. Been using Park 1 factory settings, and trying out All Metal & Pinpoint settings, a whole lot of trash as in cans of all types and metals, trying to see past this trash and get a good TID, I am a learner but slow ( Blonde, German, Old I'm Screwed ) So the project is moving along would like to detect area before all is buried for EVER !!!! Manaul says Park 1 good for trash areas and all I am digging is trash and the #s are reading from 23 to 30 on unit. So what am I missing ? time is not on my side at this site. !! THX
