It doesn't answer any competitive question, you're correct. The video does give people a little taste of what the Equinox can, and cannot do, nothing more. People will have to test those detectors for themselves to come to any conclusion as to which they prefer. Until then, I look forward to more videos, and any new feedback from testers about the Equinox.

Comedic comment appreciated! I personally feel these are overkill for most "Park / Turf" applications, and they scare the groundskeeper.

For turf I prefer a hori-hori, a gasket scraper, and a small towel. Along with my carrot, you will never know I was there.  If the turf is too dry to dig neatly, I mark the target for later recovery on my GPS and move on to a different location.

Why do you want an Equinox?

I want a VLF detector that can hunt black sand saltwater beaches in the morning, and sniff out gold nuggets in the afternoon. Throw in some jewelry hunting at the river swimming holes and relic hunting at old mining camps, and the Equinox seems to be the answer.

Great question Redneck, I have been wondering the same thing! The Equinox broke down looks like it will fit nicely into a recurve bow backpack. I use a Artemis backpack with the CTX but the shaft sticks out of the top arrow-tube hole several inches and gets caught on branches when in the woods, and catches the wind when riding on the highway. The Artemis backpack is 27" inside so the Equinox will fit nicely completely broke down. Plus, it will be so much easier to break down than the CTX.

Jonathan Porter, there has been a drought of sorts as far as useful information regarding the Equinox, because of NDAs.  Seeing these images of those tiny pickers is a real treat. They have answered some questions too. Thank you!

I hope we are all learning to use our shiny new Equinox's next month!  Getting official training and insight would be outstanding, I'm jealous. Have a great time!

That graphic has changed three times since Minelab first posted it. First the Equinox had 4 stars, then a couple of days later it had 2 stars, after that 3 stars. I take no stock in it.

I prefer shorts myself, but cat pants are pretty stylish.

IF there is a sell off, prices won't stay low for very long after the Equinox's release. People will decide where the Equinox ranks in the overall detector market for themselves, some will buy it, and others won't. As Tom says, there are seasonal market factors at play here, not just panic selling.

I believe the two detectors use the same frequencies when in "multi mode",  so they should be identical in that respect.

I was cruising through the Minelab website looking for any new bits on the Equinox and came across this marketing video that compares the detectors in the "Treasure Detector" range.  I think it's interesting, though not surprising, that the marketing hype is toned-down when the Equinox is compared to the rest of the Minelab range. 

Personally, I'm happy there is a external speaker on the Equinox.  Occasionally I use the external speaker on my CTX when bench testing, or in the test garden, or for quick hunts, it comes in handy.

Multi-frequency Minelabs do well in wet salt conditions, and I'm sure the Equinox will have it's place next to my PI at the beach.  No worries here!

16+ inches even in mild soil with a stock 11" coil is outstanding! If the 15" coil produces even deeper results I may not want to dig those holes. Thanks for sharing!

Also like Ridge Runner mentioned, there is a sticker in battery compartment with the serial number. The ones that also include a smiley face on that sticker are current upgraded units.  I owned an MXS earlier this year and that was the case.

Nice to know the audio feedback provides so much information.  I tend to use my ears first then double check with the display.  I agree that targets get covered by seasonal debris and that the process of the decomposition of surface material along with insect and rodent activity causes targets to "sink" and be "covered" at the same time.

Nice silver Steve!  Your comments about target depth in hot ground are encouraging.
