  1. I dont know .... lets say this coil costs $350.....now it cost $380 or more (because the fewer he sales the more the cost).... we are creeping up there where until i get more info on how well the coil does... id wait. Like i said..... most of us after a couple of hours can easily make up 1/4" just by dropping our coils where it should be in the first place. I notice Fisher didnt give a cover with the AQ limited either. It maybe something they all do soon. Its like when we used to have people check us out or pump our gas.....suddenly they stopped. New norm.... and no longer needed. I did kind of hope for a 24 month warranty. The Xcal has a year. The MDT was initially selling as a beach machine.... which went by industry IP standards ..... no long term dunking. So im sure there was some caution......just because i dont believe a lot of testing was done by users in the water. So ya id say he was cautious. Like Tenn said .... there really hasnt been many complaints that i know of on this machine needing repaired. Shes sturdy. So.... if my only complaint is ... no coil cover.... after 3 years im good. Ive also noticed not a lot of used ones floating around.
  2. I want to say the same thing Joe..... but it’s a lot of money for him. Unless he was to up the price with the sale .... it won’t be profitable IMO. You may have 100 machines ... and if he sold them separately..... more than not would opt out for the difference in price. We like our money lol. What if that cover cost ... say $50. It’s also possible with the material he’s using they are coming from overseas. Right now everyone seems to be in a pickle. It’s also possible Hes decided to not wait on a cover and get them on the street. I do a heck of a lot of guessing lol.
  3. It seems everyone wants to compare price tags to the Nox now days. Which i believe is going up. For beach hunting this upgraded WATERPROOF design is a welcome addition, not that i felt it wasnt already waterproof. So.... us beach hunter have to compare price to machines like the Xcal.... make some mods and check their warranty.... then compare depth in the water. We also arent as concerned about price.... i bought a CTX lol. Why, because they pay for themselves. I also look at it like this.... if i can gain a inch or so over the standard coil.... that just increases the depth over the competition out there..... and its a heck of a lot cheaper to buy a coil over a new machine that might come out to get that kind of depth. As an ole dirt hunter.... it wasnt easy getting your machine paid for. I just didnt sell anything like old silver or relics.... so i had to get into my pocket, cash in clad ... or plead my case with my wife lol. Now about that coil cover..... lol. Im a die hard coil cover guy. I really wear them out..... but i see a cost saving and it looks solid. I think most hunters especially the average hunter would make that 1/4" up just by fixing their coil swing. Maybe it could be sold as an accessory.... but hed have to sell almost as may covers as coils to make it worth his cost.... at that point it would be cheaper to just add the cover and increase the cost. There is a lot of cost for a start up company.....and i know the designer was reluctant to make this coil.... but he did and hes making waterproof upgrades im told.... and going to offer various packages. This aint ML with deep pockets who can cut prices and soak up repair costs.... but hes sure produced a good beach machine. Chase i think Aaron mentioned the weight in one of his videos.
  4. Joe do you think its more expensive because it could be SS? I know some of our M12 connectors often pealed after being in salt water with the hours we put them thru?
  5. Im hoping thats been done already since Aarons had the coil and now Keith. Tom rarely does videos. Otherwise thats another delay for warm weather.... ugh. But yes we need to know a few things about the coils reaction in salt water......like depth to stability. However, most machines handle it pretty well in true AM. Weight shouldnt be an issue there and it doenst seem to be a buoyant coil. I guess ill be the guy to find out if it needed a coil cover lol. Like the ears.... would have liked them a bit more toward center.... but i know why.
  6. Glad to see you found a lock Thomas. All those twist locks .... just needs to go away. Like you said if you dont clean um often the lock up. I dont travel on a plane with my machines much so i rarely take um apart any more. I just drill a hole in the lower shaft to let water and sand get out. As far as digital .... no they wont, but im just saying thats the route id take..... seems to be fewer issue and it would make the box more water tight. It would be a good design on that face. About time they get it all working..... they will produce the digital version..... and testing will start all over.
  7. I dont know, giving what we know, that as many people would be standing in line for another test model..... especially one without a transferable warranty. IMO..... the production model needs to go digital even if that delays it again. So if they do a second run of the LIMITED..... where does Joes PRODUCTION model stand? If it becomes the AQ limited 2.... and the production model is the SAME.... wheres the difference other than name? Have they said the production model would have a transferable warranty? A transferable warranty on those LIMITED machines ..... could gets them passed around and the owners can get a good price as a used machine. Hope this changes. You either tested it and are comfortable its the real deal or you arent.
  8. Second revision...of this model. The model is the AQ limited. Isn’t the production model named something else?
  9. I believe fisher listened thou..... i think the first run was going to be in a BOX. They put that off for a better design and as info came in tweaks were made..... it was very transparent..... something most companies dont do. Im not sure about the marketing..... or if letting go to key marketing people have affected the outcome of this machine. Time will tell if its that or the Virus issues. I think what would have been a good move was to lift that ban on resales having no warranty. This may have moved the machines around a bit more. Its difficult to say if those chosen were chosen for the right reason as well. Ive got 3 guys with them in my area and im getting about the same info from them all. Mostly .... its a bit to noisy in the salt water. Hopefully a smaller coil or the production model will change that. BUT .... the guys seem to like it for use on the other side of the island where the water goes way out and there are fewer and deeper targets. Im also hoping they add a battery much like Joes lith. For years we have gotten machines tested by testers..... i think this is the first time we have had so much access to what testers think and the bugs a machine can have..... and the fixes. Im still watching this machine and what small coil they put on it...... never know what might change with the production model. This has been a long process or..... its seems to be just because we have known about it so long. Personally id like to see them hold off on the production model and go digital getting away from the knobs and pots.
  10. Wonder if they will do away with the military disc as well?
  11. You get in the oatmeal and you could leave a target for sure lol. I dont leave many..... but i have been straddle a few holes where i went from chest to chin deep out there....... with that target still in the middle of the hole. I almost left a heavy gold ring like that the first time it happened.... but th tone was just to good. Good luck with the machine. Are you up by St Pete? If so Cliff and Todd are both up your way and have had the MDT for some time.
  12. I use a nylon sticker over my speaker. But I’ve dont that for years even with dirt machines. I use a small parts cleaning brush on those O rings and threads. I also take the O rings off occasionally and run them under hot water brings um back to normal stickiness. I’m not a fan of the solid ping and pongs so I use AM -31 to hear iron. I’ve straddled several holes digging gold rings. The machine is just unique enough and simple enough that’s it’s hard to put down.
  13. I remember when the Xcal went up $300..... because of the exchange rate. Oddly it never went back down when it changed lol. Machines will be going out of warranty soon then we will see those cost ... which will affect what one might get for a used one.
  14. I have several nugget rings but for it’s size it’s well made. I have one to large for my thumb.
  15. Thanks guys. Small but surprisingly 5 grams. Hunting... like last year is what it is.
  16. I’ve been pretty busy this month and I’m not sure if I’ll be out there the rest of the month so I thought I’d post this. It’s a 5 gram 10k nugget ring I hit yesterday down about 6” I’d guess in waist deep water. That’s on my little finger so it’s not a big size. Beautiful day for hunting.... two hunter on the dry but just me getting wet. Real quiet in the water this year. Hit an area I knew this summer had pushed up some of our thick gray sand. I could hear a bit of chatter that smoothed to nothing as I ran into processed deep sand. Not much out deeper but this year we don’t have much of a trough... she’s pretty smooth and on the reneourished beaches there’s a lot of deep worthless sand. So it’s kind of blind squirrel hunting even if you know the beach.
  17. I prefer the wrap around of iron to those high digits. Nox can put it right in the middle of gold country. Have you noticed aluminum will do the same thing when deep in AM. A pull tab normally is around 6... but will jump to say 26. This is a good gold machine in the water ... I watch 1 to 10 digits and gold stays pretty steady over trash. No speaker... I assume he waterproofed yours then? I took added precautions.... I have a nylon sticker which covers that area as well. No fan of the solid pings and pings.... but love AM. It’s really a fun machine with a good target zone for gold rings. Where you really don’t have to dig coins, deep trash that upscales or coins.
  18. Glad to see you are out there with the new machine testing. A note.... Xcals do very, thats why i prefer the Blues. Not as chatty and IMO in PP gets a little better depth. We did our testing with a 3 gram 14K between the MDT and Nox. Another thing we found is the Nox can loose targets in the surf.... not so much with the MDT. The Xcal and MDT are kind of unique in that one HATES iron and the other Likes it. What would improve the Xcal is a FAST recovery in disc mode. There is no recovery in TRUE PP mode. On edge rings .... theres just not a lot of MEAT there to detect. It seems most of the salt water detectors .... once they hit the water out a little deeper .... all things become equal in depth on targets. If you can squeeze out even a couple of inches with the MDT thats a win here in Fl .... thats about what most PIs get. NOW...... what will that 12" coil do for us? Drop some settings you are using. Are you in the St Pete area?
  19. I’ve not had a water issue with either one. But my Nox’s battery died and there were stress cracks in those screw areas. They replaced it. Been some time back and I’ve not used it but a couple times since. Back up now or for dirt hunting. I’ve got my fingers crossed that the 12” coil will get 2”. I’ve not seen the coil but it seems the virus is slowing progress
  20. Define underwater Rick??? Does neck deep count? Ive used mine for over two years as have two others here in Fl... we have put HOURS and HOURS on this machine in the water.... with the box underwater. Ive had mine in the water so long the red has faded off the button plate. I had a few drops of salt water in the battery area.... but dryed it out with no problems that was early on. Most machines.... they would be toast. I was the guy who contacted Tony and gave him the pin out and type of connector. I got one of the first pairs he made for the Nox after he contacted me.... so i knew his phones were top notch and WATERPROOF.
  21. Demitar is uses international interpretation of the IP..... which primarily is for the connectors. That box is sealed up pretty good. I have no problem with the OLD style..... but i like that hes even making more improvements to where he feels comfortable giving it a FULL waterproof rating. Dang good engineer who doesnt like machines that are always in the shop. Ive had salt water in my battery box early on.... wiped it out spayed some anti corrosive in it and all good. Had it a couple of years..... NO CORROSION in that battery area.
  22. Heres a good chart.... note what the 8 means.... and like Steve said the manufacturer has the final say. http://www.dsmt.com/resources/ip-rating-chart/ you have a mix of hardware and connectors. Some simply go by the rating of the connectors. Its difficult to rate the entire component. Testing will tell. I also agree Demitar maybe conservative in his rating. However.... it appears he is better waterproofing his box and the battery area to say yes its waterproof if you saw that video Steve posted. He spent a little extra time on mine to waterproof it. Mostly what hes doing now... sealed off my speaker and the wires coming in from the bottom of the box. Other than that this things pretty tight. Yes .... anything rated to 10' to me is a wader and about 98% of us need to detect out there..... provided the manufacturer has a good warranty and stands behind it. Thats HUGE for any machine going in the salt water. You also have to consider this is a small growing company.....it doesnt have a ML size repair shop. thus far im not aware of any systemic repair issues with this machine and as Steves video also shows its evolving based on our suggestions id say.
  23. Hey it’s only money..... it appears I’m May get more lol. It like detecting and digging up a deep target.... just have to know if it work lol
  24. This is my first. No one to my knowledge has found one of these. Seems to be more for sleep patterns. $299.... so it’s pricy too. Ouraring.com is the site if u want to check them out. Going to cost me $59 to buy a charger if I want to keep this novelty. Many of the fitness watches are cheaper... but aren’t this waterproof. Down loaded the app but it appears the battery is down on it... or at least I hope. 1 scoop so pretty shallow .... came in loud like a TI ring. Ceramic so it’s light as a feather.
  25. You might at least contact Tony to see where he gets his solderless 90 degree connectors from. Hes pretty accommodating about sharing info. It also appears Joe (ole beach nut) is using a 90 degree solderless M8 connector for his AQ battery..... check him out to. Tonys is pricy..... but they are darn good AND they come with the connector at an angle that points over shaft and can easily be secured with velcro out of the way. Maybe the headphones have been changed but the one i got with my machine was in the way of my finger.
