  1. I have seen that for a short time last year the SunRay NX-1 inline probe pinpointer system was for sale online and from a few suppliers.  This was short lived and soon became virtually impossible as is the case today.  I was just wondering if any of the Equinox users on here were lucky enough to purchase one, and if so how did it work for you?  I'm hoping that in the not so distant future, the SunRay company will begin production again for all of the Equinox metal detector options that have become available.  ✌️

This is just a comparison of selectable single frequencies and simultaneous multi frequency choices available between the X-Terra Pro and the Legend.

Minelab X-Terra Pro selectable single frequencies are 5 kHz, 8 kHz, 10 kHz, 15 kHz using 3 different search modes-Park, Field and Beach. No simultaneous multi frequency.

Nokta Legend has selectable single frequencies of 4 kHz, 10 kHz, 15 kHz, 20 kHz and 40 kHz. Those frequencies are available in Park and Field search modes. 20 kHz and 40 kHz are available in Gold Field prospecting search mode.  Nokta Legend has three different simultaneous multi frequency modes in Park and Field. It has two different simultaneous multi frequency modes for dry and wet saltwater beaches. It has one simultaneous multi frequency mode for Gold Field prospecting.

There are some similar audio features on both detectors. However, the Legend has many settings adjustments and some features that the X-Terra Pro does not have.

Base model X Terra Pro is available from many retailers for $270 which does not include proprietary wireless headphones which have to be purchased separately (at least $100 when available from Minelab), or third party water proof wired headphones which need to have the proprietary waterproof screw on connector (at least $100). There are many aftermarket 2.4 gHz wireless headphones with 1/8" plug wired transmitter that will work with the X-Terra Pro and should be $100 or less.

Right now, NW Detectors claims to be selling the newest version of the Legend with wireless headphones, upgraded shaft system and lighter LG30 search coil for $499.

Jeff I was hoping to purchase on at that great price that you mentioned.  I Checked out the Northwest Detectors website today and it lists the $499 Legend offer as the old Legend model closeout deal.. Here is how it is written now.

Nokta Legend WHP Metal Detector OLD MODEL CLOSEOUT PRICE!

    $749.00 old price

  3. Welcome aboard Nalawal.  Thats a lot of money to pump into a metal detector.  I would encourage you to talk to your local metal detecting shop first and tell them about what your going to be detecting for in your region.  They just might have some great input to help with your choice.  I personally would think that you would fit better into a Nokta Legend or the new Minelab XTerra Pro at far less than the price tags that you are looking at with the 900, Manticore, or the Deus2.  These suggestions wouldn't cost you as much and all of them are turn on and go machines right out of the box.  As you use their installed programs then you can work on making your own program adjustments to fit better with your soil type in your area.  Some great ideas for  dealers that you could speak with would be Gerrys Metal Detectors, Bart at Big Boy Hobbies, or Rons Detectors.

  4. This was one that she had kept for herself when they stopped coming in.  I was lucky enough to be able to buy it from her as she had never ended up using it.  If I do find a dealer that has these in stock again, then you can bet that I will be purchasing a second one and for certain letting everyone know that they are back available in the states.

As for coins, hands down happy with the Manticore for a few reasons, I hunt in very mild soils and don't have a lot of trash so my opinion on mineralized soil or high trash areas would be worthless, however for my conditions its proving to be a great detector, it's better than the Nox 800 for EMI, I would say very noticeably better there, and the long EMI press actually works, and works very well. and I believe that's missing off the 900?

Phrunt,  I would assume that the upgrade in the chip technology for the Nox 900 over the 800, would be just as good as the Manitcore's when it comes to detecting around high EMI areas?  Maybe I should hold off on purchasing the 900 and lean more towards the Manticore?  Have any of you that use the Nox 900 experienced a significant change in dealing with higher than normal EMI transmission spots?

After having the machine in my hands I will explain what I have found.

1- You can edit and save 4 ferrous limit patterns.  These patterns are global.
2- You can customize 1 discrimination pattern for each search mode.  This disc pattern is not global.
    3. You can save only 1 custom search mode to favorites

    My critique is this -

Why not give us 4 global disc patterns - preset and custom 1,2,3 and 4 just like the ferrous limits?  How about a "combine" feature?
Why limit it to just 4?
When you scroll to custom ferrous pattern 1,2,3 and 4 the front page image doesn't change showing you the pattern?  You must open each one up to see the pattern.

I consider a discrimination pattern as being both ferrous and conductive disc patterns combined such as on an etrac
I would have liked to see the Manticore set up to easily migrate disc/ferrous patterns into any search mode you choose.

    One other note......

I feel that ML seeing the by product of the height of the newly designed arm cuff made the claim the added height was for ergonomics.  The same goes for tilting the hand grip forward a little more as well.  The result is the new angle and added cuff height hasn't really changed the combined angle.

I'm not bashing here.  I like the machine.  Possibly a machine that may dethrone what I believe to be the best coin machine made - the etrac.

This is exactly why I feel as if there will be a newer version of the CTX coming out over the course of the next year.  They are offering the Minelab user altogether better features than the Equinox had, with 2D technology, better waterproof rating, better depths and discrimination, underside led light, and collapsible carbon fiber rod system, oh and lets not forget their MULTI-IQ+.  One cannot sit here and think that they are not working towards the next great CTX option.

  7. Hello and Welcome from N.E. Kansas.  That Equinox 900 looks to be a real good metal detecting unit!  Be sure to check out the Minelab forum on here for the Equinox.  We cant wait to contribute to your discussions and hear about your great finds in 2023!

With Nokta Makro intending to compete directly with the Equinox 800, and outdo it in build and features, then considering Minelab is title sponsor of Detectival, I wonder if it will force Minelab’s hand to go to a 4.0 update with more features for equinox. It sounds like there’s a good chance of hearing something about NMs SMF this weekend. Will Minelab respond in kind? The hosts of Detectival said on a recent UK podcast “there are a few surprises coming.”

The other night I was listening to the Beyond Sight and Sound podcast and, Chuck S. one of the Minelab Dealers and guest speaker, would not give a concrete release date for the Manticore.  However, he mentioned about another major release that is coming in the late Winter or Early Spring from Minelab.  It's really got my interests peaked.

  12. Welcome to hobby Ruben.  There are lots of metal detecting outfitters out there that will offer you a discount for being military.  Usually this is about 15% off of your purchase.  One that is local to your state is American Detector Distributors. Since your from Texas be sure to look into the Charles Garrett Memorial Hunt in Canton, Texas.  This event is loads of fun and there are lots of great hunts that you may participate in.

The Nokta Makro line is a proven company that has put out many great units.  Be sure to compare the Simplex+, the Legend, and their Anfibio Multi units (there are so many more). I'm sure that whatever unit that you choose will be one that you will grow with and learn to master along the way.

Be sure to also look into the Texas Association of Metal Detecting Clubs.  That will help you get into a local metal detecting club near you.  We will be looking forward to seeing your posts on here and hearing about what metal detector that you have decided to go with.
