  1. I dont think I would have been swinging my pick like they were that close to the target, but a great find.
  2. I no longer use coil covers, I apply a good thick coating of flexx seal spray on rubberized coating. Wally world sells it in white, clear or black. As it wears just reapply on the wear spots. Waterproofs and protects the coil.
  3. With all the speculated new detectors this year, we are going to be busy trying to learn alot of new tech. Should be a interesting year.
  4. No one knows exactly what went on thousands or millions of years ago, its all theory based on what each person believes and see's in their findings. I love hearing about them all, and come to my own conclusions of what may have transpired years ago. Its all very interesting to me.
  5. I cant make it this year, if it was closer I would be going.
  6. They cover alot of topics there, anyone attending signs a confidentionallity agreement so you wont hear anything they do no want you to hear. Im sure they will be covering the 7000 pretty heavy.
  7. If I was only going to buy one detector, and that was between the ATX or SDC. I would probably go with the ATX. Just for the added versatility of different coils. Both will work great, but I just feel the ATX with the optional 8 and 20 inch monos will give you more options with owning just one detector. Not to mention you can probably get the ATX Deepseeker that comes with the 12 and 20" coils and buy the 8" and still come in under the SDC price.
  8. I love the Eureka, yes it takes alittle more to master it, but it offers alot of performance in return. I use mine with the 8 and 11 inch round coils. Alot of people dont want to take the time it takes to learn these machines, and thats a shame because they are missing out on a very good performing detector. It is one of the better VLF machines in hot ground.
  9. I like the Nugget Buster or Grey Ghost headphones, they work great and don't break the bank. The Lesche is a great tool for parks and schools. Just learn how to properly dig out a plug, and take a small towel or something to set it all on so you can put it all back in the hole.
  10. I prefer using the 18 inch NF coils, gives plenty of depth and coverage, but not as cumbersome to use as the larger coils. I used a 25" round mono once, that was all it took to convince me that I did not like that large coil.
  11. Great stories, I know there are hidden hordes all over. So many of the old timers either did not trust banks, or were too far from them, so they could not get to them easily. It just takes some persistence, and knowledge of the areas you hunt. I feel there are buried stash's all over the mother lode area from the 49ers who would bury their finds for safe keeping. While detecting in areas that were hit hard by the old timers you should always check the surrounding areas where they may have wondered up into the tree line to hide their finds. Its out there, you just need to get your detectors over it.
  12. If you plan on using a mono as your primary coil, then yes get one now. There will be a learning curve with both coils, but I would want to start learning with the primary coil as soon as you can.
  13. It should be interesting for the next year or so. I know Tesoro has not been up to much for awhile, and it is disappointing. But they do have alot of faithful followers. I will say I receive a pretty even split of calls for them.
  14. I hope you find plenty, did I forget to mention that I get 10% of the finds. ( Not the trash). Good luck out there, stay in touch and let me know how you are doing, or if you need any help.
  15. Thanks, the old dump piles are pretty much gone now. I was going by what a old timer that worked there said. He said they used to find gold in the washes by panning every spring. The claim holder is having the area checked out as I type this. I have a drywash and im going to try a few of the run off areas and see what it shows.
  16. Anyone know of any info on this mine in Storey Co. NV. I have access to it by the claim current claim holder and im trying to find out any history from someone who may know. I have heard there was some placer found there at some point in time.
  17. That would make a good combo, The only one I would change for myself would be the AT Pro, I would prefer the Gold Bug II for a VLF machine mabe even the Gold Bug Pro. Either way you going in the right direction.
  18. I would in no way say the ATX performs at the same level as a GPX5000. The ATX is a very good detector for what it is designed to do, Be a waterproof, portable easy to pack detector that has very good sensitivity to small gold, and works very well in hot ground. For most people, the ATX will be all the detector they need, For those that want the biggest baddest detector, with the most performance currently offered then its the GPX5000. Steve has used the SDC, ATX, and the GPX, and has alot of info on all three posted here and on many other forums that makes for some very informative reading, and he knows what he is talking about and explains it in terms we can all understand.
