  1.   No one knows exactly what went on thousands or millions of years ago, its all theory based on what each person believes and see's in their findings. I love hearing about them all, and come to my own conclusions of what may have transpired years ago.

Its all very interesting to me.

  2.  If I was only going to buy one detector, and that was between the ATX or SDC. I would probably go with the ATX. Just for the added versatility of different coils. Both will work great, but I just feel the ATX with the optional 8 and 20 inch monos will give you more options with owning just one detector. Not to mention you can probably get the ATX Deepseeker that comes with the 12 and 20" coils and buy the 8" and still come in under the SDC price.

  3.   I love the Eureka, yes it takes alittle more to master it, but it offers alot of performance in return. I use mine with the 8 and 11 inch round coils. Alot of people dont want to take the time it takes to learn these machines, and thats a shame because they are missing out on a very good performing detector. It is one of the better VLF machines in hot ground.

  4.   Great stories, I know there are hidden hordes all over. So many of the old timers either did not trust banks, or were too far from them, so they could not get to them easily. It just takes some persistence, and knowledge of the areas you hunt.

I feel there are buried stash's all over the mother lode area from the 49ers who would bury their finds for safe keeping. While detecting in areas that were hit hard by the old timers you should always check the surrounding areas where they may have wondered up into the tree line to hide their finds. Its out there, you just need to get your detectors over it.

  5. Chris, Steve,

You guys are doing great.  Impressive that you are managing websites and forums and also writing books and magazine articles and still finding time to get out and consistently find good gold, which is what it's all about.  Chris, I think you even also have a day job?

I suffer from the way too many distractions syndrome and thanks for providing some inspiration to get out and detect more often.

Gave Ken Walls at Eureka Prospecting Supplies some money yesterday and in return he gave me a new SDC 2300!  So now I'm committed to becoming a serious prospector.  Going to be going detecting early this morning and hope to be posting some "finds" pictures soon.

I think I know where the specimen gold you posted here came from and it ain't easy to find gold with a detector there.  The SDC 2300 helped but I'm sure that the skill factor counted for a lot.

I hope you find plenty, did I forget to mention that I get 10% of the finds. ( Not the trash). Good luck out there, stay in touch and let me know how you are doing, or if you need any help.

  6.   Thanks, the old dump piles are pretty much gone now. I was going by what a old timer that worked there said. He said they used to find gold in the washes by panning every spring. The claim holder is having the area checked out as I type this. I have a drywash and im going to try a few of the run off areas and see what it shows.

  7.   I would in no way say the ATX performs at the same level as a GPX5000. The ATX is a very good detector for what it is designed to do, Be a waterproof, portable easy to pack detector that has very good sensitivity to small gold, and works very well in hot ground.

For most people, the ATX will be all the detector they need, For those that want the biggest baddest detector, with the most performance currently offered then its the GPX5000.

Steve has used the SDC, ATX, and the GPX, and has alot of info on all three posted here and on many other forums that makes for some very informative reading, and he knows what he is talking about and explains it in terms we can all understand.
