Yes, partly. But you still have to have the detector set correctly. [tougher with the D2] I have no doubt that your land programs react totally different than on this salt beach. The Equinox is just killer in salt on Beach 2, 1 tone, Horseshoe mode on. The D2 no doubt could have found this in my older program, But currently running a full tones program with magnetic reject I have my doubts. I had the D2 out yesterday to a different beach that is target laden and I found very few small bits. Which has been the norm over the last month. [we will talk about those beach modes when you're ready!!!] Keep me posted when you go. 😎

So, after using so many different detectors in the last 50 years, some things never cease to amaze. There were so many fan boys when the D2 came out and how it was going to RULE small everything. Well, we know that did not happen. YET, the Equinox never falters and excels at small bits. Got this pear-shaped diamond surrounded by many small chips. It looks like a setting that came apart from a ring. Nothing has been tested nor certified. I suspect from the look and quality it is real. Rang a solid hard 8 on the Equinox in Beach 2. Had big waves and lost it through the scoop on the first try. Was lucky to reacquire and run it up the beach to find. Interested to see how others are doing on small bits!!!

Not entirely true in my beach hunting experience and depends on detector. But if someone thinks they can hunt at max sensitivity all the time they would be incorrect. I will give two examples of different machines. I also have unique insight as I routinely look at fringe targets with more sensitivity in mineralized black sand. Equinox, Horseshoe on I can hunt it in 21-22 sens, without driving me nuts. When I look at a fringe targets and go to 23-24 sens there is rarely a target that does not ID better. Be it ferrous or nonferrous. Deus 2 hunting 91-93 sens. without driving me nuts. Get a fringe target and go to 94-95 sens and iron will almost always wrap-around more and give stronger nonferrous ID's Maybe 50% of the nonferrous targets has an increase in sound quality and 50%-ish will hold a better ID. But there is no way possible to hunt the Equinox in 23-24 Sens, full time, as well for the Deus 2 at 94-95 sens. HH Dave

When the wave conditions are right, soft waves and sand can bring lighter targets in. I could have 100 14's banging my ears. On those days, I skip 14's.

No, Rings of course can ID at 14. Yes, 95% of my tabs come in at 14. I get a few 13's and 12's. Like today, my conditions did not warrant skipping tabs. I dug 1 a solid 14. However, when the wave conditions are right I could have 100 14's banging my ears. On those days, I skip 14's. Now opposed to the D2 Inconsistent pull-tab numbers that range from 48-64. With almost no back-to-back repeat numbers. Drives me insane and makes it impossible to have ANY comfort zone on skipping tabs. 🙄

The only machine I have experience on is the D2 with 100 scale. I HATE it. Throws gold and pull tabs all over the place. My Equinox makes calling tabs 100% easier. Almost impossible to skip any tabs with the D2.

Ugh, memory. I think the wrap-around number was 24-26 depending on coin condition. I did not use any Disc. [I think] What was more disheartening was the frequency. Anything over 9kHz had to be throttled way back due to the Black Sand here. Depth performance was affected. My friend was here running the MDT. I just pulled a gold chain with the Equinox. The MDT could not even hear the chain laying on the surface. That did it for me.

I liked it......But could not get past the iron-wrap around. Here in Mexico there are bi-metal coins and the Tarsacci would throw those into the positive end of discrimination. Also, while it handled Black sand good. I could not hunt past 9kHz in Black Sand. I thought this was a handicap for gold. If not for the Iron-wraparound on these particular coins. Might have kept it.

I owned a Tarsacci for about a year and a half.

We have had the Manticore here and my friend was supposed to be here but has been busy. Last year it had done well but the black sand conditions were better, with any luck it will be here in three weeks.

My conditions change a little. At no point this season has the D2 been great with recovery in the moving water. There was a short window where the 13" coil seemed to work [a little] in the wave wash. But it got rough again and the Black sand has increased lately. My general feeling right now is there does not seem to be an advantage in Tracking or Manual GB in the wave wash. My manual GB numbers have ranged from 82-87. I did experiment one day with going to a Dive program for recovery but that did not seem to solve much. Going to set-up a custom dive program to see if I can get recoveries made in the wave wash. Not very comfortable with the 9" coil on the beach. It feels like I am out there with a teaspoon. When the reactivity is above .5 the coil really shortens up audio response and swing speed becomes an issue. I keep the reactivity low, so I get a broader response on targets, and I can maintain a decent swing speed. I have to do more testing with magnetic accept and reject. For almost two years I ran magnetic accept. Now with this new program on magnetic reject my fear is the machine is not responsive to small targets. Both the Equinox and D2 would come home with their fair share of small bits. But now, the D2 rarely finds any. Two days ago, I had a smaller target that in my opinion should have had a much better response.

Yes. I bought a second hand D2 that needed a pod replacement. No issues with the original receipt.

Many Equinox users cranked up the sensitivity and noise cancelled. The goal was to try to force the machine to make the best choice.

So here it goes. Lots to unpack. [again] Been testing for weeks. Settings Beach Sensitive 40KHZ max Disc 6.8 Sensitivity 90-94 Salt sense 7 Iron vol 6 Reactivity 9"coil .5 13" coil 1.5-2 Audio resp. 6 Manual GB FULL TONES offset 8 Bottle caps 2 Magnetic reject. The good: Nonferrous targets clean-up better at depth and sound less clipped. The chatty noise level of the machine reduced/muted. Less iron wrap-around [much less] The Bad: Complete loss of detection with wave wash moving over coil. Loss and difficulty of small target detection. Lots of ground balancing required. I felt this mode of Full tones has really made some difference in making targets at depth sound better. I also credit manual GB for some of this as well. Testing showed tracking GB did make targets at depth sound a bit clippie. But is really the two put together, full tones and manual GB. While Magnetic reject helps some with Black Sand chatter, I fear it is a small item and maybe even chain killer. In trials for weeks this D2 package is nowhere near as sensitive as my Equinox on small targets. I do not have a gold chain to test but have tested a few small bits. Full tones> Full tones gets the most credit for better sounding targets at depth. I feel using the offset is mandatory. The offset is what really makes the difference in the ability to tell the difference of Black sand ticks and deeper non-ferrous hits. Sensitivity, one of the issues I see with the D2. Increasing the sensitivity to look at one target can be difficult. The D2 has a tendency to enhance both iron wrap-around and deep nonferrous. Whereas more sensitivity with the Equinox enhances deep nonferrous and will help ferrous break down more. With the complete inability to remove a target in the wave wash with the D2, I am heading back to the Equinox again and hope for my Black Sand conditions to lift some. Going to try hunting more in the wet sand with Black sand accept and see if this will result in better sounding small targets. Then switch to Reject with water contact. Thank to Jeff for pushing me to try manual GB. Even though it is an entire PIA and time consuming.

Exactly Both my equinox and D2 will identify a nonferrous target as ferrous. All I hunt is salt with high mineralization and this is an everyday occurrence.
