  1. In beach 2, horseshoe on, IB 6, Recovery 6, auto sensing GB mode, these tent stakes will double ring. They should also give a minus vdi. Even if they are galvanized it should not be different. Put a few on the ground and practice. So one other thing I should mention. Coil control is important. So is centering the target. Impossible to center any type of target at depth unless you are in horseshoe mode. Once centered, move the coil slow enough so that iron can react off both sides of the coil. If you burn the coil fast, you might only get one ring. Also, nonferrous targets do have the ability to double ring, but they will not be deep, and be confirmed by vdi numbers 1 or greater.
  2. Well, it is possible to be with a very high sensitivity level on land [in beach modes] My next trip I am going to work beach 1, and see if it does the same. I only had one other person PM me and said he saw what I was saying about deep non ferrous and ferrous in beach mode. Said he was going to experiment in the other modes, but I never heard back. Let me know.
  3. Are you talking salt beach? Wet sand/water contact I would run at least F2-1 on that 600. One of the biggest issues will be how quiet your machine runs in salt. The higher the IB, usually the more stable. You might be able to up your sensitivity by 1 notch higher too. I know there are some obsessed with "small gold". But frankly, small gold don't pay the bills. Obsessing on super small targets will suck up detector time. I vote for coverage all the time. Even in recovery 6 and IB 6 I have found some amazing small gold items.
  4. I have been writing about this for sometime. In beach 2 [which is all I work in] In horseshoe mode, the equinox will double ring on ferrous targets, to great depths. Non ferrous targets will single ring at depth [only and always] I have been able to find very deep non ferrous targets that will not even register in discrimination mode. And of course will not id correctly in fact will id in negative numbers. I have no idea if this works in other modes of operation do to frequency weighting and other changes in different modes. I did test F2 Iron Bias mode. I did not think F2 worked as well for this feature.
  5. While almost the same condition. The Mexican 1,2 and 5 peso coin is mixed ferrous and nonferrous metals. While these coins will not Id above 0, if the IB is not set high enough they will splash the discrimination mode. In my case I do not want to find these coins as their maybe 100's on the beach in any given hunt. So I do run an IB setting of 6 on my 800. [salt beach]
  6. This when you are working in discrimination, correct? Try working in horseshoe mode next time in F3. It will allow you to vdi iron to very deep levels. Try to see if your ferrous targets double ring too?
  7. I think the CTX will go BYE BYE. You will see an upgraded detector off the Equinox platform.
  8. Can you explain "touch sensitive". Which coils have had this problem? Thanks.
  9. A coil with a WIDE HIND END. How is that going to pinpoint?
  10. I just completed reinforcement of my Minelab Equinox 15" coil. Epoxied on coil mount support. Then additional epoxied side plates to each side.
  11. Anyone notice the "white" Equinox coils. Also the fisher coil is wider in back than front? How is that going to pinpoint?
  12. First off you are correct. A coil ear support is pretty much useless unless you epoxy it to the coil and ears. Make it one with the coil. I know, because I broke a coil ear with a support on. Gig has got it partially correct. If he would of epoxied a coil support on first. THEN add the extra piece on the outside he would have the ultimate fix. Just like me 😁
  13. If owning a PI means digging it all/most. I AM OUT. My goals at this point in life are to work smarter not harder. I want MORE accurate idenification and MORE depth in my detector as a double function.
  14. It is a design flaw, PERIOD. I recommend not only to get a quality ear stiffener and epoxy it on to the coil. But then also add side plates epoxied to either side. I am in the process of doing my 15" coil right now. Water hunters have more issues with the pressures involved and added weight of water and sand between the coil and cover when going in and out of the water. Do your self a big favor and get it done soon.
  15. I broke a coil ear way back. Now I mod all my coils NEVER to break again!
  16. That will not be strong enough. Get a solid coil ear support and epoxy it on with the rest of it.
  17. Well I am kind of not kidding. Big return/interference in the middle of nowhere. What else could it be? Now I understand other metals can be involved with gold ore. But makes ya go hummmm.
  18. Maybe it is hitting on high concentration of gold ore. Time for the backhoe!!
  19. I have experience on Mexican ferrous coins. Yes they do not ring in discrimination. The only way to detect them is in horseshoe mode. I find the different varieties will not identify correctly with a minus [-] number. Meaning a certain coin will not just give one number if it is ferrous.
  20. For what it is worth. The Equinox is not sold as a dive machine. With all the failures is barely a wading machine.
  21. Hi Joe I notice a repaired coil in the picture. Do you notice any improvement in noise reduction with this coil? I have been doing some experimenting with the Equinox coil. Thanks Dave
  22. Someone just had a fast turnaround on a wet machine. Don't WAIT!! It is already compromised.
  23. WAIT, Think I heard music too! https://youtu.be/6D1nK7q2i8I
