  1. That is exactly my hope as well or small coil Workin in huts and spoil pile
  2. Clearly your right on everything lol it's called an opinion we have different ones good luck.
  3. Well in my 15 years of detecting seen lots of machines being released and trust others have made claims that large too. Guess what not this kind of response. I have never seen used detector sales button out over an announcement the dealers I know haven't either. So yes it's possible that the response overwhelmed even minelab. Look at the at max launch it was a joke delay after delay. All things considered this one as been relatively painless. In fact I got my 800 monday. The problem with this launch imo has been people have no patience and want things right now.
  4. Like everyone else it's hard to say I think even minelab was not ready for the response. The response should tell us what the community of detectorist think. I have been detecting for nearly 15 years I have used Garrets, Whites, tecknetics and minelab both mid range and hi end units. I have found minelab to be what works for me in my soil for the targets I hunt. I used the explorer se pro for a few years before I went to the ctx I used it since day 1 of it's pre-order. Some clim it was heavy but I didn't feel so. I am leaving the ctx for the eq800 not because I think it will replace but because my hunting style and targets have changed more to relic hunting then coin shooting so it fits me better. So my advice is take your time learn the nox and enjoy it but give it time before you swap machines. Then find if it works for you watch the trolls and bad advice people you will spot then quickly.
  5. I think your right. I also think it's the nature of technology for example a laptop last year with the best Intel i7 process was on performance consider high end and in computers in the 1000 range. Now 1 yr later from a performance stand point of just the cpu. The new Intel i5 8250 "mid range " not high-end out performs last year's high-end but is found in laptops sub $600 range. So when we talk about performance it's very reasonable the new multi iq can indeed out perform older VLf or even FBS why well even the ctx is using FBS 2 that is 6 yr old tech that's a lifetime in the tech world. Also look at the AT series the gti2500 was Garrett flagship but at 599 AT pro was a better machine less bells and whistles but in the end it was faster lighter and just better. So just like minelab seems to do when they say it's new and a gamer changer it usually is.
  6. My only wonder with gold mode for relics is this. Unless I missed something this machine is designed to handle mineralized ground and iron better because of multi iq. Reading the manual the modes are set for targets and trash conditions etc. Field 1 and 2 seem likely to me as the best starting point for relics in those conditions. I say this because if each mode is set by a parameter and algorithms for those targets gold mode is set for super small gold so it may not hit has hard on other larger relics. I maybe way off but that is may take on the modes and how they work also sensitivity and other settings shift slightly with each mode so it maybe user profile set up based on the location your in and soil and type of targets that drives the starting point and adjustments.
  7. Just saw a post from my dealer the first round of EQ will ship from minelab and a product announcement giving details will come on February 2nd. Excited as we are much closer. Just wanted to share this somewhere that won't get attack for sharing info. So thank you Steve and the members here for not being like alot of the other spots....
  8. Yes the lack of accessory pricing is fustrating cause my trade in for my pre-order is directly affected by this as it has a higher value then the nox. I tend to think alot of the anger is fake from trolls and haters who can't or won't buy the detector at all. It was actually those trolls that lead me off of other forums and how I ended up here. So oddly they did me a favor lol.
  9. That is truly amazing here in the states we can't even comprehend that history. Can't beat to see your field reports with the equinox .
  10. Yes your right it maybe hopefully it's a rumor but you never know if minelab pulls off this release without issue it will be the exception not the rule seems like launch usually have issues.
  11. I don't understand do far minelab has not missed any official date. There was tons of speculation of when it would be released then in dec 21st ml released the info that only 3 weeks ago and the said late January. This February talk is a rumor today nothing from minelab has confirmed that. Secondly, the at pro relase was pushed several times the dues launch was pushed and was a train wreck. So why not wait and see if it comes out on time b4 rushing out an buying a detector that the nox was designed to surpass
  12. Daniel TN, Couldn't agree more my thoughts on the ctx it's been my goto for homesite in milder soil my beach machine when I goto the cost. In freshwater I use at pro. So, like you I think it's time to move on from the ctx while we can without a huge loss. I truly think multi iq will prove to be as good as fbs in saltwater. I think it is the future for minelab vlf, BBS and fbs have reached thier maximum capability. The ctx maxed out fbs with it's fbs2. I truly believe minelab had to make something new to beat out the at series and Deus lines but I believe it had to be able to also beat out the safari Xterra Etrac in terms of performance. If it's not better then minelabs own older tech it's dead in the water. Now does the ctx have more bells and whistles sure but are they worth the extreme extra cost? I think knowing all this minelab wanted a true all terrian muti use machine. To accomplish that requires it to work in all soils and perform better then the rest otherwise it's a flop. Minelab spent big money developing this it will be winner. Atleast 2 tester have made comments of the soil they hunt in being mineralized and that the performance is better. One even says the nox will be his first out and he is ctx guy. So, I am very optimistic that this will be a game changer.
  13. The ctx is my go-to but not in Brandy or even parts of orange the ctx does not do well in that soil but niether do vlfs. I am optimistic based on the fact that muti iq is not vlf and it's not fbs it's a new tech and it was designed to handle all soil types even mineralized soil by ignoring the ground according to the minelab video about multi iq. Time will tell and we will soon enough know if it is any better in that evil dirt lol. Like you all have said it's no pulse so gpx is King for me in that soil. My hope again it can handle hot dirt better then the rest for those spots littered with ration can and carpets of iron we usually steer away from with the gpx.
  14. I will not begin to speculate on FBS vs multi iq etc. What I will add is I too hunt in Tennessee moderate mineralized and I hunt in Culpeper 4 to 5 times a yr with the organizned hunt I am part of. I have tried the ctx, t2 and atpro etc all struggle up there in hot soil as you stated. What I have heard from a dealer who was lucky enough to use the nox abit in hot soil in Culpeper. He stated that they dug a hole placed a cw bullet in the hole and at over 6" the only machine that heard and gave a soild Id was the nox. Now I trust him as he is a good friend but I was not there. Like you I use the gpx 4800 up there but if in fact it will work better then the rest then I can see irony patches, trashy areas and huts as a place this machine could be very useful. I am high on the pre order list and plan to fully test that theory out here and in Culpeper.
  15. My primary focus is relic hunting in particular civil war relics. I am also an old coin guy here in Tennessee we do alot of old homesites and farm fields. I do travel several times a year to Culpeper, VA as I am part of an organized hunt group. I also do alot of river and lake hunt during the summer and alittle beach hunting as well. I use the gpx 4800 alot when relic hunting but I can see the nox as my primary homesite, water machine and filling a huge gap when hunting relics iron patches and trashy sites that were civil war camp areas. I hope the equinox will perform better in mineralized ground where vlfs and fbs struggle. Here in Tennessee we have moderate mineralized soil and the ctx is sometimes hampered here. I am planning on the equinox and gpx 4800 being my arsenal and thinning out detectors.
