  1. 2020 was mostly my Minelab GPX 5000. Second was the Fisher Impulse AQ, and lastly was my Minelab Equinox 800. It's not that I didn't like the Equinox, it's more a "best detector for the situations" that made that list the way it is. Had I done more cellar holes. houses or parks, the Equinox would have been out a lot more.
  2. Nice Spanish silver. I think that brass tusk is one half of a nose ring for a bull.
  3. It's nice to see that many gold ones come to light! Great hunt.
  4. Great find! Nice chunk of gold. 10K is that pivot point for gold leaching out it's copper for me. That find helps pay for the AQ a little bit.
  5. Wow, I forgot about cut coins. Never see a more modern one cut, usually Spanish silver ones. Kind of a rarer and cool find. Must have been a poker debt. 😄
  6. The smallest silver I have found is a couple of these US 3 cent silvers. They don't come up very often though. Size is 14 mm
  7. So if they ever did that...... what would stop them from making coils to fit every other manufacturer's detectors??? That would be a bold kick in the pants to everyone 😲...😄
  8. Well done. Arm cuffs seem to be the new weak points in some detectors these days. That one should outlast the machine 😄
  9. Are you using the coin/relic soil/timing? DD coils or Mono?? I know that when I use coin/relic timing on soil that is more mineralized, you can not swing the coil without it reacting like there are large targets everywhere. Try another timing and see if it helps.
  10. Sad, but in essence you did get a reply.......silence. That in my book says it all. Unfortunately, that is how customer service is interpreted by companies these days. Say nothing. Ignore the interaction. In the old days you would at least get a generic "thank you for your letter" and possibly an answer to your question or at least a nod for your suggestion.
  11. Well in that case they reduced the GPZ10000 by around 30%(and renamed it too), so in my logic 😅, the GPX6000 should be around $4200. 🙏 I'd take a GPX 4200 any day.
  12. Hey maybe we can get someone to read their palms 😄 Maybe there were microscopic traces left and we can recreate the machine 😂 Actually, I would be happy with just knowing the price before they release it for sale.
  13. Ouch! I was hoping for some form of discrimination.... but if it eliminates the EMI in my area , I am good with the trade off. 🙂
  14. I use that same tape, to tape the seams on the wood pellet stove vent. It's pretty thick and now I'll have to try it on my machine too. I'm betting it won't work on all types of EMI, but if it works on my train EMI at the beach, then it will work anywhere😄
  15. Beautiful looking ring! Custom made I would think? Test those stones, hopefully the customer wanted raw looking diamonds and not perfect ones.
  16. I feel that no one is going to catch Minelab ever, unless they find a completely different way of locating/identifying metal. Not only does Minelab have some of the best people in the industry, but they probably also hold many key patents. As time goes on, it becomes increasingly hard to circumvent those patents. I wonder how many engineers have had a great idea only to end up staring at one of Minelab's patents that blocks them implementing their idea? So how do companies compete? Price is number one. Throw in great advertising/spin and you have a way to compete.....for now. Selling the same old stuff and not having a great sales force = death. That's how I see it. As for the only real issue I have with Minelab? Their lack of durable coils. I have gone through quite a few 11" and 15x12" DD coils, so I switched to Detech. Same goes for their handles on the GPX. I finally got the aluminum one so they would stop splitting in the same spot. Their technology is stellar. Detecting would not be as much fun (or successful) without them. Now, if they would only implement a loaner program so I could try their GPX 6000, that would be sweet 😄
  17. I never understood the mentality of not releasing the price of a new machine. I can't think of an advantage for MInelab to do that. There are a lot of people that would try and scrape up the money or take out a small loan, if they knew the price. Withholding a price does not change the sticker shock for me anyways. It is what it is, so why not give us time to prep for it. Maybe someone here in advertising or finance can let us know why that is done that way.
  18. For me, the extreme sensitivity would be a plus! When I do metal detecting survey for projects, a lot of what we are looking for is small brass items and even brass shavings (cut offs) from large brass sheets. Also, we find very tiny brass beads that only sometimes register on the 5000. If I could get better depth on those items than the 5000, that would be great. The GPZ would have been good for me if they had not removed the ability to have some sort of iron rejection on it. The 6000 seems to have that ability. 🤔 Yes, for some relic hunting in heavy iron areas it may be a problem, and not a good choice. On beaches I rarely use any iron rejection anyways. So for the 2 main types of hunting I do, it sounds like it will be a good machine. I'm excited as usual about a new machine hitting the market. My how things have changed from the TR / BFO days 🙂
  19. I am glad Joe's on the mend. I was just thinking about him yesterday. Thanks for posting that. Sometimes no news is good news. I was worried when he didn't post anywhere, but it sounds like he is resting and in good spirits. Great news!
  20. Those tack read great on my DFX too. I used to find them in the woods. I was told that hunters use reflective tacks that they push into the trees. Not sure if that is true or not. Maybe they use it to navigate at night or to mark a great location to hunt.
  21. Yea, I'm hoping it isn't doing the cancel mode but finding a different way of mitigating the EMI. I have used cancel mode and it does work very well. Unfortunately it looses just enough depth to put the silver coins I am hunting for out of range at my beach. I will have to experiment more and see if I can get some better settings to gain back what I lost. This area has the most severe EMI from a train that I have ever encountered. Even in cancel mode the threshold is not completely stable, but I may have to dial back some settings. Something to rethink and try again. That is one nice chunk of gold!!! I will revisit the cancel mode again. Or I can just let Minelab do it for me with the 6000 😄
  22. It's not often you get the letter "D" in that shield!!! Great button. I get "A"'s occasionally, but never a "D" yet. Congrats!
  23. I will never master all the combinations on the GPX 5000. 😄 But I have to admit, the sheer number of combinations can produce some really good depth on my beaches. I have to say it really is one of those iconic machines for me. Fiddling with it has saved me on some hunts when I thought all was lost. I'm hoping the 6000 with the 14"DD coil can do a better job with EMI than the 5000 did. Looking forward to the official information release, especially the manual 😍
  24. They do corrode away to some degree as GB pointed out. But there are still plenty of newer ones at popular fishing beaches, to jab ya. I do believe the ones that are older do corrode out eventually. Isn't it weird that a hook loses it's tip but doesn't seem to develop a new tip, while a nail rusts and exposes a needle like end? I've been pricked by a couple of those nails - goes right through the glove 😬
  25. Maybe it will be better that way, but I'm skeptical of giving up control options. Looking forward to seeing what it can do and can't do. It's always confusing when a new machine comes out. It takes a while for the euphoria to wear off, or for the negative comments to subside. Only then do we get the truth of what a machine can do.
