  1. The other day i did a test with my Equinox, trying to replicate something that is talked about with the Compadre and Mojave detectors, the double beep next to the posts of the playground equipment. I turned my sensitivity down to 5 and took a piece of aluminum can I had just found about 2-3 inches down in some wood chips on a playground. I put the piece of aluminum about an inch or two from a large metal post and passed the coil first next to the post and then over the can piece and I was very surprised to see that, even though the front edge of the coil was almost touching the post, it wouldn't sound off on it, but it would give me a solid hit on the piece of can. So if you're in a playground and you want to get close to the posts, don't be afraid to turn the sensitivity down low to get as close as you can.
  2. unox, I ordered from AliExpress, 5x 1 meter shafts for $81 shipped to the US. Here is the link. It was the best deal I could find for that size. I will use 1 for mine, 1 for my cousin and maybe keep another one on hand. The other 2 I might try to sell to people around here. I just gave 2 shafts to my neighbor who works somewhere with a drill press and he's going to try to get holes drilled for me tomorrow. I only marked for 2 holes, the arm cuff hole and the control box hole where they are comfortable for me, I took the measurements from the distance between the control box hole and the hole I had the arm cuff attached to. When I get it back I will put it all together and try it out without the holes for the pin lock and report back as to how it worked out.
  3. Ok, one last question about the plugger shaft locks. I have mine here and I just received the carbon fiber rods yesterday. I fitted everything together before I drilled any holes and I noticed that the plugger lock holds the lower shaft very well without having to drill the holes for the locking pin (I think thats what it's called). Would you say that I could make this rod without using the pin holes and just slide the lower rod into the carbon fiber rod to the height I want and then tighten it down or do you feel the pin holes are necessary? Thanks!
  4. I second this advice, I was out yesterday at a site that produced last weekend and I almost gave up. I felt like I forgot how to use the machine completely. There was a lot of iron falsing and I was digging square nail after square nail. They sound good but not both ways and kind of chirp instead of give a nice solid tone. The only solid tones I dug most of the time out were ring pulls. I did get one copper memorial penny that sounded super weird but it ended up being above a bunch of trash. As I was walking off the field I got a solid 13 and dug a nickel and then another solid tone and dug a wheat penny. Then I realized I was going after high chirps and not after solid hits both ways. I probably should've brought the sensitivity down a little too. I was running at 20 but my thought when I was leaving was it should've been lower.
  5. Yes!!! This is what I've been waiting to see. Thank you and congratulations!
  6. Thank you! I remember you or someone saying that about the war nickels. I think it was the S mint mark ones that I read about but I see some are ringing up different with all mint marks. I happened to find some that my grandmother had in a nickel book and they all hit as 13 on the ground. Very weird but we recovered them! and they're in pretty good shape
  7. My neighbor has been coming over my house asking for a snow shovel I have since he knows I'm moving. Saturday he came over and I gave it to him and asked if I can detect his front yard quickly. My neighborhood was built in the 50's and I've found silver in almost every yard I've been to. My first target was a 28/29 and sounded like it was right on top of the ground. I dug down a little and saw a silver edge and grabbed the coin and I didn't realize what it was at first but I saw the queen and a date and realized it was a Canadian quarter, 1963. That's all the good stuff I found there Later that night I went back to the baseball field that I found the white gold band in and got this horrible sounding signal (Park 1, 50 Tones) I thought it was just big iron so I dug it to see if I was right. It was down pretty deep and when I got it out it was still not a great sounding signal but then I realized why. It was on edge and I was catching it off the edge of the coil, not in the center. Again I pulled it out and saw a silver rim, this time it was a 1952 Washington quarter. I also found 2 junk earrings about 3 feet apart, the first one I found rang up as 18 and I swept around that area and got another solid 18 and dug the other earring. Pretty funny that I found both but I used the ID from one to determine where the other one was. On Sunday I went to an old baseball field (on the 1940's map) that's kind of overgrown now. My cousin just got an equinox 600 and I was helping him out trying to learn it. He yells over to me "What's a 17" I said I have no idea but if its solid dig it. He did and yelled over that is was a 1943 P nickel. I was telling him how awesome it was that he dug that and that it was a coin that was still eluding me. Then right after I said that I got a solid 14 and dug it and it ended up being a 1942 P nickel, sweet! About 5 steps back I got a 25/26/27 signal and was hoping for a silver dime and out popped a 1924 Merc. After that I walked to where I thought the infield was and got a solid 12. I thought maybe an older nickel but out popped another 1942 P war nickel. Now that's 3 that all rang up different. We were both in Park 1. He was in 5 tones and I was in 50. Later on I got a solid 18 and got a shield with a cross, fleur de lys and lions on it. I typed that into google when I got home and it turns out it was part of a brooch from the 60's. Last, I got a 20/21 but it was reading deeper so I dug it and it ended up being an old toy car. Here are some shots...If you've read this far and are interested in the car it's all yours. Otherwise I'll probably toss it...Oh, my cousin also found a flat button with loop on back (shank I think it's called) that rang up a solid 22 he said. I dont have a picture of that though
  8. When I see people complain about the straight shaft I remember all the people that complained that the AT Max had an s shaft and not a straight shaft. It's all very funny to me, that people find anything to complain about. As an aside I bought a TV that a lot of people raved about because of it's deep black colors because of the type of panel it has. When I got it I realized that the viewing angle is very small and the colors wash out the more of an angle you view it at. I can't see why people find deeper blacks a better thing than a wide viewing angle with a different panel. Sorry, nothing to do with detectors but another example of little things people pick up on and run with
  9. Ok, one more question NSC. When I look at the pluggers shaft lock it says this: “This lock will fit both the 600 & 800 model shafts but you need to cut the old twist lock off behind the body, shaft and all. If you don't cut the shaft off the snap button may get "captured" by the 1/2" hole that the cam sits in and it is difficult to get the snap button free after that!” Did you cut yours?
  10. SittingElf, I held back when I usually speak my mind. You said it! Plus, if the minleab WP phones are $150, you're paying more for these in the end...I was hoping to see something a little less expensive.
  11. EDIT: 14k is 6.1 grams, melt about $150 and 18k is 9.9 grams, melt about $315
  12. Thanks for the replies! I'll most likely save everything I've found and hand them down to my girls to do with what they please but this thought did cross my mind. Skeleton Coast, I love that! Domestic CEO haha! I heard one other, I think here that killed me...Minister of war and finance. That's my wife's nickname now. I'll put up pictures in a minute, just have to find them quick. My favorite one is the two tone 18k band with a hammered center.
  13. Something just popped into my mind and I thought I'd ask everyone...has anyone ever taken a found ring to a jeweler and had them re-finish it and shine it up so that they could then sell it for significantly more than they would've gotten for it at melt? I was wondering if doing this would be (more) profitable...found ring is worth $x in melt value + $y to make it sparkle. Could the value of a nice shiny new ring be greater than $x+$y. I know things are only worth what someone would pay for it but maybe just maybe...
  14. This is great! I'm thinking of doing the same thing and I have some questions. First about the lower shaft lock. Does that lock it into one single position or can you slide it in and out of the carbon fiber pole to adjust the height? Also, after you drilled the holes did you treat them in any way to seal them up? I read about having to put super glue around the hole so that they don't fray. Thanks!!
  15. How much did you pay for these? $120 + 35 shipping? I want to see if I'm seeing the same ones...
  16. This is awesome! Can you say what country you're in at least? Great finds!!
  17. TripleT, I found my first gold ring with my Mojave a couple weeks ago. A 9.9 gram 18k band. I would've found this one with the Mojave too if I was over it. It wasn't down that far, maybe 3-4 inches. Fskafish, maybe it was that sweet Equinox mojo! Hopefully it'll keep going. One of the main reasons I bought it was to take to Costa Rica and use on the beaches down there for jewelry hunting. Thanks everyone!
  18. ...finally happened to me!! I got my Equinox 800 on Saturday that I ordered from Gerry and took it out in my back yard. I've gone over this part of the yard plenty of times and pulled out most high conductors but somehow managed to pull a '41 wheat...from the surface! Not sure how I missed that but I'm thinking I dug it the other day with my Mojave and it fell further away from the plug and I just skipped over it. But that's not the luck I'm talking about. I charged it over night and took it to work with me the next day because I wanted to hit the beach down the street from where I work. It was cold and windy so I just decided to go to a baseball field that I've been detecting near my house. I was listening to the tones, trying out 5 tone and 50 tone on park 1 and 2 and settled on 50 tone park one. I noise canceled and ground balanced and didn't change anything else. I was picking out some coins and digging some foil looking for small gold. I dug a couple nickels at 12 and some at 13. I got a 12 and was expecting another nickel and out popped a 6.1 gram 14K gold band. Sweet, finally some of that beginners luck! Here's a couple pics from the field
  19. Nakky, I've been checking this thread over and over trying to figure everything out. Is there any chance you can get good detailed pictures and explanations of how you made the carbon fiber shaft? I see what tubes you bought on Ali Express and I see you used the AT Pro cam locks I think to connect them but what about connecting the coil to the shaft? I was looking around and found some telescoping rods and was thinking making something like this would be awesome but using a telescoping method and using these type of connectors... https://www.rockwestcomposites.com/connector-accessories/locking-telescoping-mechanisms/telescoping-clamps
  20. The default is 0 and supposedly does some magic of balancing itself but other people say when its chattery you should ground balance
