  1. I agree with Steve before I wear my pinpointer out the pinpointer itself will be worn out. I feel the same way about the coil on my detector. I don't scrape it on the ground and I am pretty confident swinging over grass with not cause enough friction to wear out my coils. When and if they do wear out I am sure there will be a new detector on the market that is a must have.
  2. I use 50 tones often but the tones that trigger me to look and dig seem not much different than 5 tones.. I am trying to learn the faint tones that tell me something. I also have tried 2 tones and although they ring loud and clear I can't find much of advantage to using them . I could be missing something but the sites I been hitting I have dug so many quarters that the quarter tone goes without looking.. I hear one I wiggle to find center and drop to my knees to pinpoint and recover.
  3. Steven I would bet you have a new control unit. They replaced mine twice..
  4. Kellyco isn't the only dealer taking preorders. I will wait because although I know many people want the 6" coil I don't think there will be long lists. I am doing exceptionally well with the standard coil..
  5. For almost 5 weeks I had been hitting a park for about 2 hours a days and raking in the clad and a few rings. I averaged $3.50 - $4.50 everyday and found a little over $150 in that park alone. The last 3 hunts I went through to clean up on targets I had passed over when I was collecting 9 to 15 quarters in each hunt. I finally got it down to finding only 50 cents during the last hunt so I started looking for a new place. I hit a few places with littles success and a cpl where I found 5 cents or less. Well I found this place I had been eyeing for two years and it was finally open so I hit it about 5 days is a row and collected $40+ in clad plus a rubber duckie..lol On the 6th day I went back and it was locked up again so I couldn't hunt and moved on to places I knew were hunted heavily if not hunted out. So for the past week I been struggling to find $1 in clad on each hunt and a cpl times nothing at all. Yesterday morning I drove past my new honey hole and the gates were unlocked so I drove in. It was already getting hot about 86 degrees when I got there but I decided to hunt anyway. I started where I left off and as soon as I put my detector to the ground while adjusting the head phones I had a 30 signal dug my 1st quarter before I even swung my coil once. In 1 hour and 15 minutes I walked out of there with $5.72 in clad. I went back this morning and in one hour I found $4.75 in clad. I also found a way to get in without going through the main gate. Yes I have permission to hunt there. The beauty of this site is I am the only one that has hunted it.. I have about 50% of the place hunted and I think maybe I have at least one more week to get it pretty well hunted out. I still hit a bottle cap or two but I can usually tell what it is even with a flattened bottle cap. I can't explain it but they give off a different or even multi tone even though the target id is 29 - 30. There is a lot of trash there but the Equinox ignores 95% of it unless a bottle cap or tab.
  6. Well there are a lot of 800's out there if you look including Cabela's The only difference with Cabela's is you have to pay tax and some dealers don't charge tax
  7. Getting my 2nd 800 tomorrow. Ordered on Monday.. That will make two 800's and one 600. The 2nd 800 is my grandsons birthday.
  8. Did you slide the one end of the velcro through the arm cuff till it hit the stop on the velcro
  9. You must have big arms, my velcro goes from one side to the other..
  10. Staffydog the Equinox does not need defending. It speaks for itself. People that knock it are like those driving a Camero's knocking Corvette owners because they can't afford one. Most people know that every detector has a niche in the marketplace whether it be price or a better relic detector or coin shooter.. That's why so many guys are in love with different brands and different models of detectors but in my eyes the Equinox is the best all around detector on the market in the price range
  11. The Equinox is fine the way it is. I adjusted the shaft length and the cuff and no issues at all. I have seen guys say the Equinox is lighter than the At Pro and less tiring.. Who is going to notice .04 pounds when most likely they carry a lesche and a pointer and probably a pouch.. You want a detector that will wear you out try the Etrac.. Even after 4 days with the Etrac I was used to it and not sore... Most people that complain are loyal to other brands but bought an Equinox because if the didn't they would be missing out and they would be missing out if they didn't buy an Equinox. I have seen guys spend over $100 on modifications only to go back to the standard shaft and cuff. I have seen counter weights near the cuff.. I am 73 yrs old and have arthritis and move like an old man. I can hunt for two hours everyday and dropping to the ground to dig a target as much as 50 times but swinging the detector don't wear me out it's digging targets that does. All around feature for feature and dollar for dollar there is no better detector on the market.
  12. I have the same feelings about the E-800 and E-600 I have them both. It's easy to use right out of the box with very little frustration during the learning curve. If you hit a good park it will give you butterflies because you're so successful but when you hit a few hunted out areas the Equinox cannot find what isn't there. I have two places I have hit with it and one especially that I used my Etrac, V3i and At Pro at. Well after two hours the other day I found one nickel a few nails and can slaw. The soil was so dry I could not dig over 4" and even then I had to chip the dirt out. Like I said if it isn't there the Equinox can't find it. I went to a very trash laden park and I dug no less than 10 bottle caps that rang up at 28-29. Rusty and flattened out bottle caps plus tabs, can slaw and rusty nails. After you get used to it I love the separation you get with it especially with nails or other iron in the same hole. The depth is great too and I hate deep but can never resist a good signal if it is deep. I have had my E-800 just over 60 days and I have found in excess of $200 in clad, one silver dime, 3 rings and a silver chain yesterday. One park I was most successful at I hunted a 2nd time and dug signals I passed on the 1st time because I was getting $4 - $6 in clad every 2 hour hunt. I have since cleaned it up and been averaging 10 dimes, 3 quarters and maybe 10 pennies but because of the heat I been only hunting a little over an hour each morning. Next week I am off to new hunting grounds but not sure where yet.. I have over hunted every park within 10 miles so I have to expand my range out to 20 miles I guess.. that gets expensive in gas but I love it so much I don't care. I have not lost my enthusiasm for the Equinox. They can Nox it or knock it the Equinox is and awesome detector
  13. I got my 1st silver this morning. A 1951 Rosie and found it less than 2" deep. I am guessing a pocket drop and the person didn't even know they had a silver or didn't care. I was actually going back through this park and digging signals I had passed on before because they were either iffy or I was tired of digging pennies. I have pulled over $150 in clad out of this park and based on my last two 1 hour hunts there is a lot more.Yesterday I pulled 10 dimes and 4 quarters in an hour and this morning I pulled 10 dimes 3 quarters and 2 pennies including the Rosie in less than an hour. I quit when guy asked if I could help him find his keys. He told me his girlfriend got mad at him and threw them in some bushes at a casino.. I am guessing they were either drunk or broke when she got mad at him.. I didn't find his keys because I couldn't even get close to the center of the bushes with my detector. I had several deep 30 signals but the ground was so hard past 5" deep I could not dig it with my Lesche. I chipped away at it for more than 5 minutes and only gained 2" so I quit. When we get a good rain I will go back try again but in the meantime I will canvas the park for signals I passed up on when I was digging 20 -25 quarters everyday.
  14. Interesting. I have never had to ground balance but I am sure it helps some..
  15. The best way to use the Carrot is not use it at all. I have one two months old and I hate it. I still use my Whites but I can barely hear it but I prefer vibrate anyway
  16. I only hunted an hour this morning but found 10 dimes, 2 quarters and 2 pennies.. It was getting hot and humid really quick so I quit. It was 80 at 8:30 on it's way to 92 today. I am trying to refrain from using the pinpoint mode on the detector so I did the wiggle method on every target but one. The one I pinpointed was a solid 31 but it turned out to be a rusty chunk of iron. The 1st 1/2 hour I hunted without discriminating anything out just to see how well it separated targets and it did very well. The problem was way to much noise but the targets I did dig were easy to identify amongst all the junk. I finally deleted everything up to 12 and then everything from 15 to 18. I was hitting the dimes this morning at 23 -24 and only one at 26. The place I hunted had been hunted hard but parks always give up coins and rings no matter how hard they have been hunted.
  17. Got my E-800 back from Minelab and hope the 3rd time is a charm. For anyone questioning Minelab customer service. DON'T! Minelab customer service is 2nd to none. They fix or replace your detector in 2 days or less and I am certain that depends on their workload but both times my detector has been sent it they were sending it back the next day or day after. I am headed out for a cpl hours this morning wearing my new Equinox T-shirt and I am sure if other people detecting see me they will run when they see I swing an Equinox..LOL I was gone all week so only hunted one day with my 600 even though I like it I had my 800 tuned better and now I have to start from scratch with my 800. There really is very little difference other than the gold feature and a cpl other settings but I think psychologically I find more with the 800 but then again I have 130+ hours on the 800 and maybe 15 hours on the 600. Going to a heavily hunted area this morning that I know produces good finds. I just know not to expect much. I have to get out of the house before the wife wakes up. Taking her to dinner today for Mothers Day so I want to get some hunting in before I take her to dinner.
  18. It sounds like a lot of info but once you start so much if the info will come to you. The machine is pretty easy and all anyone tried to advise you is not to try and outsmart the detector. We all have a tendency to try different things with a detector when we start and that just creates confusion and frustration. The biggest thing is set your sensitivity so the detector runs quiet. Ground balance if necessary and ck for emi Go with factory settings and believe me they are good.. Mr Chase Goldman is the man when it comes to following his advice,,
  19. Well the threaded object has a pipe thread on it and having worked in the process piping industry for 40 years I may have seen one but if I did it was insignificant so I paid no attention. I use profile settings so I can go to them if I try something new that don't work out well. My profile settings are pretty much factory settings that have been tweaked and seem to work best for me.. Storing them in profile makes it easy to go back to what I know best
  20. For those of you still looking Cabela's still has the Equinox 600 listed as available I only mention this because I always try to help others find what is available now.. Some guys have waited patiently for months with no expectation of getting one anytime soon. I have helped 5 guys get their Equinox with a cpl of calls. I had a guy help me and I actually had what was supposed to be an inside track with two places and they ended up not being able to help..
  21. I can see the frenzie now if some dude says he got his hands on a 6" coil early.. Most dealers are taking early orders so I can see the jealousy factor pop up when guys get in on the 1st shipment.. I can't imagine it making the Equinox than much better than it already is but the 5"x8" coil made the At Pro go from good to really good. The 1st month I had my ATP while learning it I was finding $3- $4 per outing and when I got the 5x8 I was averaging $5 - $6 per outing in the same soccer field. I wish I could go back to that same soccer field with the Equinox because of the depth the Equinox has over many other detectors Is there a 6" coil in my future I keep edging closer to getting one when they are released. I won't get on a list but I do know a cpl of 1st come 1st serve dealers so I may try them.
  22. If you can't solve it by following the advice of the people on the forum contact Minelab right away. They are very responsive and willing to help. I know they have a lot of small issues they are being bombarded with but they take each problem seriously and will send you a UPS link to send it back prepaid
