  1. My battery lasts right at 12 hours. My headphones last longer about 20 hours I am guessing but since I have had both the detector and headphones go dead while detecting I always recharge when I am down to the last bar and recharge the head phones at the same time.. Headphones seem to always recharge quickly I usually detect 2 - 3 hours so I usually always recharge about every 4 days and sometimes sooner Going to try the beach again on Monday
  2. Chase I agree 100% with you. I had good luck my 1st two outings so I wanted better luck. Well I started to try all sorts of settings and thinking gold rings and deep silver was going to jump out of the ground. All I had was a mess and I went and sat down and did a factory reset. All I did was adjust the sensitivity and boom the clad was almost jumping out of the ground. I probably have 60 hours on the Equinox now and other than screwing up on beach settings the 1st time out I am a firm believer that if I sweep over it I will find it. I have very little emi and I don't need to ground balance. I am happy finding 90% of what's there because the next guy will miss it too.
  3. Thanks for the info. To bad there isn't some sort of a protector..
  4. I live in the US and support my pocket book.,, I don't care where it is made i want the best for the least amount of money. Just cuz it's made in china or somewhere don't think it isn't US owned. Even it it isn't I don't care. If companies in this country want to manufacture something they will if not they let others use their names with licensing agreements
  5. Don't linger on someone's waiting list. Look at all dealers from Maine to Alaska and MN to Florida. Look on Minelabs website for the list of dealers and contact each of them by phone or email. Believe me you will dig one up. Not every dealer advertises on detecting forums. Don't prepay either. Pay them when they can ship it..
  6. I went out this morning with my E 800 and didn't notch anything out. I went to a different area of the beach and my detector was silent most of the time. I hit some deep signals but quit digging when I was over 12" . Then I hit a few tabs in the 13 range and one very solid 25 and it was a very corroded dime. That's all I got but didn't stay out over 45 mins I had just been to a heavy hit area for 2 hours without much success but I didn't expect much since I had hit it with my etrac but did find a quarter and a few pennies and of course an abundance of tabs and bottle caps. I am going to South Padre Island in about 10 days and plan on detecting the beach there. I was surprised leaving everything open from 1 - 40 was as good as it was..
  7. I am going to disc out 13 as well and I have 20 on up open. Yesterday I had a quarter ring up as a nickle and a nickel at 8" ring up as a quarter. I am not lying when I say I couldn't put my hand held pinpointer down because it would scream everyplace I laid it so I kept it in my pocket till I had a target to locate. One of the quarters I found had 2 bottle caps with it. However I still have this gut feeling there is silver in there somewhere. I went to an old abandoned school one time and dug over 30 cans but come away with $3 in Merc dimes, 7 silver quarters and 2 walking liberty 1/2 dollars so it was worth the can digging. My 1st two targets that day were silver otherwise I may have walked if I started hitting cans
  8. I hunted the worse park I ever hunted for trash today. Honestly I could not lay down my pinpointer because it would beep no matter where I put it. I had so many 13 signals with every sweep it sounded like a phone ringing. There were bottle caps at least every foot and can slaw everywhere. I did manage to pull $1.65 out in clad. 2 quarters 10 dimes and 15 pennies. I got a didproportante amount of dimes because they were ringing up at 23 and I think other guys passed over them thinking they were pennies. It's a very old park and hunted hard. I had a lot of mixed signals that bounced from 35, 31, 29, 23 17 and all over which turned out to be bottle caps after 2 or 3 I quit chasing it. As soon as I hit the horseshoe I knew it was a bottle cap. I was using park 2 and it ran fine with no chatter or interferences. In one case I thought I had a good 28 signal and after I pinpointed I used my hand held and in a diameter of 6" I had 4 bottle caps and when I pulled them out the 28 signal was gone. I also had a deep 29 signal and pulled out a gold tab at 11" I will go back and try again but I do know what I am up against. I have a gut feeling there is some deep silver in that park because of how old it is.
  9. I have no issue with the ergonomics of the Equinox. I adjusted my shaft and the balance is ok and the weight is fine compared to the Etrac. I can swing it a cpl hours with no problems. If I swing closer to my body and cover every inch of ground it is fine. If I try to swing to far out in front of me I feel a little stress on my forearm from the cuff.
  10. I have found rings in tot lots and athletic fields and even parks.. Tot lots have been good because I have found my gold rings there. Usually the athletic fields I have found silver rings and even a class ring or two. I hit one soccer field a few years ago that had 14 fields and took me over a month to hunt at 4 hrs a day but I managed 9 rings and two were gold bands plus $200+ in clad. The rings I found in the playing area and the clad on the sidelines. Even locally I find 70% of the clad and the few rings I have found were sideline rings at soccer fields, I look where people congregate for outdoor events. Festivals and carnivals. Fairgrounds and fringes of ball fields. Old high school sports fields usually produce well. The most expensive ring I ever found was in a tot lot near the kiddie swings. I never miss a chance to hunt a tot lot. More than paid for a detector when I sold it to the pawn shop If you stop and think about it how often do you lose anything including change from your pocket. That's why newer parks don't produce much they haven't had the years to accumulate coins and rings.
  11. There are no humidity issues in a plant that makes microprocessors or does electronic assembly. Ever heard of a clean room environment. Who dreams up this stuff about the manufacturing in a humid manf plant.
  12. I think I may have found a Palladium ring but didn't know what it was. I still have what I found. It rang up about the same but just kinda thought it was a cheap dime store ring.. I will have to actually ck it out
  13. The pinpoint mode is spot on if you do it right and watch the meter and listen for the squeal. You may be 2" - 4" off at times but once you get used to it the most you'll usually be off is 2". Without a handheld pinpointer you're going to wear yourself out with frustration trying to find the target. I would set my discrimination 0 -11 reject 12-14 on 15 - 20 reject and 21 and above on.. You will hit a lot of tabs and bottle caps at 12 -14 but most nickels are a solid 13 with no bouncing of the signal. 32 will more often than not a can or some other non ferrous target but usually not a coin The Equinox will not find a target at 2'. If you dig more than 12" you're wasting your time.
  14. I really appreciate all the help and advice. I went out this morning and had everything from 1 on up open. I did find lots of junk and a few corroded pennies and $1.35 in clad plus a small silver ring and a really thin wire silver earring. I was surprised the detector even picked it up. Had a lot of action and a lot of scooping but I want to learn it in beach mode because I am very spontaneous and will head out of town for 3 - 4 days at the drop of a hat. I will often head over to Gulf Shores or Ft Walton beach and sometime over to St Augustine area. I am headed down to South Padre Island in a cpl weeks so I need all the beach practice I can get in. Ordinarily I rarely hunt the beaches in the Biloxi area unless there is an event in town and people crowd to the beach. Over the years I have found a lot of gold rings but I never really set up a detector to include gold. In my eyes the Equinox is so awesome I have to learn how to set it up to include gold on beaches and in parks.
  15. Thanks I haven't found any gold with the Equinox the gold I have found with other detectors was either high or in the nickel range.. Thanks for the advice Edsped
  16. I took my E-800 to the beach this morning not expecting to find much because the beaches in Biloxi don't have much to give up. Anyway I come away with more questions than I learned. I used Beach 1 and left 1 & 2 open then 13 open and from 19 up open.. recovery 6 and sensitivity 23. I learned what tiny pieces of foil were and I hit a ton of tabs at 13 with solid signals but I did find one nickel. It seemed the tones were softer even with a dime at 6". My headphones went dead but I hadn't charged them for a week..lol I seemed to have a lot of ghost signals. I would get a blip and no matter what I did I couldn't get it again. I had a cpl 25 signals but quite weak and I took my scoop and quit scooping at 12" and still didn't find anything. I guess the highlight of the morning was finding a set of keys for a guy that lost them.. He stopped me and asked if I found any keys and I said no but if I find any I will look you up, About 25' away I got a mixed 22 - 25 signal and sticking out of the sand I seen something and reached down to find his keys.. So over all I found 40 cents and a set of keys
  17. I felt good getting 3 wheaties at 8" the other day and those were the 1st wheaties I found down here in a cpl of years.
  18. Call Minelab and send it in. They pay postage both ways.. You will have it back in 5 - 7 days
  19. Seems me a coil cover is more of a nuisance. I think before you would wear out a coil a new and better detector will replace what you use now. I am just saying..
  20. You will love it right out of the box.. It's deep and accurate. Don't rely on the depth meter other than to use as to whether a target is deep or shallow.
  21. I don't even use the WM08.. I just use my wireless headphones from the 800 and leave the module in my truck. I may buy a set of wireless for the 600 but that's it for me..
  22. If you look at the price of the accessories it tells me the Equinox 800 was a darn good deal
  23. As others said before me sensitivity is very crucial until you know your machine. I crank mine up to high on occasion and then back it down to a point that it really runs smooth and produces well. I dug about 4 false targets this morning because I had the sensitivity maxed out. I backed it down 5 points and started hitting good solid signals instead of high iffy signals
