Reports On MX Sport Firmware Update - Post Here
Ridge Runner replied to a topic in White's Metal Detectors
I ran a test to see how EMI in the house would effect the MX Sport. What I done was take a yard stick and block it up 22 inches off the floor. I put in right in front of a small TV with one end of the stick near it and the other end out in the room. I had the 6 x 10 coil on the MX Sport for this test. I then put a penny nickel dime quarter and a half on the yard stick. I first used my Eagle 2 for the test. I went from coin to coin with a good signal and it ID each coin. The threshold tone was smooth and the signal tone was good. It never showed the TV was giving it trouble in any form.. Then it was the MX Sport time for the same test.. I took off all the coins and told myself I'd try one coin in the middle and that put it 18 inches away from the TV. I am in coin and jewelry mode on both detectors. When I turned on the MX Sport it sounded okay at first put that didn't last long. The nearer I got to the coin and the TV the MX Sport couldn't take it. Oh it detected the coin but it made more noise because of the TV than it did detecting the coin. You hear me and others say how they like the MX Sport. One said the 10 inch coil is too noisy and he is right because I too said that. I'd call that a issue. If a coin is beyond 4 inches from the coil you lose the pinpoint tone. There is another issue. The ID is not correct most of the time. On a coin I put in the ground it detected it one way but not the other. With any other detector I'd moved on because again most of the time it's trash when it does that. Well I"d call that a issue too. I think the detector has great depth at times but that was another issue. I've got to get that detector off today with UPS. The thing is I need to send this one in that replace the first one I got. I'll call Tonya because she is the one that sent this detector to replace the one I need to mail back to her. I'll say no more until I talk with her. Chuck -

Gambler The odd thing on the pinpoint problem I didn't hear it on the other detector. I was at a school yard and this one area has gravel on top from 3 to 6 inches. What I was detecting was below the gravel being this was put on top of a old play ground. The first time I was thinking that pinpoint tone is odd like no volume are muffle. What I done when I came home was run a test with the pinpoint on. What I found is when you get the target out away from the coil you lose the sound. The thing is you know it's still there because ID meter reads the depth. Like said I'm sure the other detector that I still have didn't have this problem. It's box up and it's going to stay that way. I knew I had a problem with this one on the first. time I pushed the pinpoint button. Give it a try and I hope this is not a problem for you. Chuck PS I just wonder what else will jump up and bite us in the butt . -

iqwozpoom On the audio pinpoint it sounded if it is muffle. I didn't realize what the problem was until I done a air test on the pinpoint.at home. That's when I found you lost the audio on pinpoint past what I said on the other post. I've been reading what others have posted on other forums about the MX Sport. Chuck -

I didn't get to go out with the new detector until late today. One of the first things I found out what Daniel said on the site Steve posted is true. That is on pinpoint you don't get audio past 3 are 4 inches. Then i check the SAT and the top was 6 and if I'm not wrong with the new firmware it should be 8. I just can't believe I've got a new detector without the new firmware update.. I have yet to put the 10 inch coil on because I found the other one was so noisy. I don't find the 6 x 10 to be that way but i'm going to run a test as I get hear a building .with electrical. Chuck -

Okay guys I got the new MX Sport late today. It came double box with return label to ship back the old one. The first thing I done after putting it together I went out in the front yard. Then I ground balance it and went from 42-44 on the old detector but it ran up to 51 on the new one. I put on the 6 x 10 DD coil because I want to coin hunt some. I did put some coins down on top of the ground and ran the sensitivity all the way up to boost and it sounded great. It had very good depth even with the smaller coil. The 10 inch coil may be different but I know with the other coil I didn't have all that pop pop sound like before. I don't know what firmware it has and right now I really don't care. I will put on the 10 inch coil later but not right now. I've had enough testing. I do owe a thanks to Tom,Tonya and White's for having a line of great people working for them. I'll say more when I know more. Chuck -
Quartz / Gold & Hydrofluoric Acid

Now if you just want your nuggets to shine I've found that white vinegar will do it. I put them in and every couple days I'll turn them over. I just keep them in the vinegar until I'm happy with the way they look Chuck. -

Okay Master Tom I'll do as you wish. I don't care what they say about you even if it is true but I still like you. We should should sell all this bull we shoot. I know if they kick it out of me I wouldn't be over two feet tall. I should come to see you being I got a Grandson going to college in Portland. The poor kid has to drive a new BMW. Oh well I've been told you can't take it with you. The Best to you Tom. Chuck -

This is to White's and two great guys that work there. You got a new smaller coil for the MX Sport send it to me and I'll give it a run around the block. Now if I like it I'll send you the money back to pay for it. Now if that's not to be I'll send the coil back and I'll pay postage to return it Chuck. -

Hi Rico I too hope the new one does the trick. That's a long time when waiting on something you want so bad. A detector is like buying a car in you look read and look some more. Then you tell yourself this is the one for me. You put the money down and the air rush out of you and the high is over. It can be the detector are the car but it's time to take it out for a drive and a long one over days. You want it all to be what you expected. I've yet known anyone to make a buy and want it to be bad. I'd like to have a concentric coil but smaller than the 9.5 inch coil. Right now that's not to be. The DD has it's place but I can do without it around here. If White's would make a coil 6 to 7 inch round I'd jump on it with both feet. I've been told it's some testing going on a smaller coil but I can't get a direct yes out of the people that is in the know. If and when my wish comes true I'll make the buy. I'll never understand why they always put a detector out with such big coil but they do it every time. If they would give you both I'd be willing to pay the price. I guess it's like lots of the videos on the MXS showing the great thing about it being waterproof but you don't get the headphones to go with that waterproof. Then out comes a great package but again no phones to match in it. I'm not asking for something free. Chuck . -
Maybe that's the reason most of the time I hunt by myself. Great finds! Chuck PS You could tell him we are friends to the end and this is the end friend.haha

Anyone Here Dredge???
Ridge Runner replied to Dean Stone's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
Hi Dean I've done some dredging over the years. Some of it has been Colorado, Alaska a little and Wyoming with some high banking too. I like running a dredge but sometimes it's hard to find a place to put one i n the water. Tell me where you live I may have something that could interest you. Chuck -
Having A Blast In Australia!
Ridge Runner replied to vanursepaul's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Paul I just got on here to see if you made it back. If not I was going to tell you to come home while some gold is left. It sounds like you had a great time and that is half of the trip. Finding gold and being out there with Big John is got to be the best half. To me renting a detector would be the best way to go. Taking yours and getting there and it not working would make a grown man cry. Glad you made it home safe without a snake hanging off your leg. Chuck -

Guys I'm one happy camper. Another good thing about all of this is I get my new detector before I have to send my old one in. Tonya is the Lady I've been talking with and she said to test out the new one to be sure I'm happy. I just couldn't ask for more. I hope this detector is so great like one time fishing. That was the fish was biting so fast I had to stand behind a tree just to bait my hook. Chuck -

Well gambler and others who are interested. I just got off the line with this Lady from Ok. who is the distributor for White's. Now think of this I didn't buy this detector from anyone that is a dealer under them. Yet here she is doing whatever it takes to help me. I have yet to get anyone from White's that was hostile. They have got to eat humble pie each day. Here is the news hot off the press. I've got a new MX Sport coming my way and I should have it by Friday. She has a return label from UPS in there for me. I thank White's and Tom.plus all the people that work in one way are another to make all our dreams come true. Chuck -

Air & In Ground Testing Of The MX Sport
Ridge Runner replied to Ridge Runner's topic in White's Metal Detectors
iqwozpoom To answer your question. I know both haven't been fertilized in years..The one in the country we had peanuts and watermelons but that was 60 years ago. The school yard hasn't seen any in years if ever. All you see is just wild grass. Everyone came to the conclusion that both was in mild ground and the MX Sport shouldn't had a problem with the type soil. Come back tomorrow to see if I'm going to get another detector. I'll post here. Chuck -
Coin Hunters, What Do You Dig With?
Ridge Runner replied to gambler's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Terry I've got coins that I found from the early 1800 and most were not over 4 inches in the ground. One time I got a hit on a penny at 9 1/2 in a school yard. The guy with me his detector couldn't detect it. I started digging and around that depth the detector said I found that penny. It wasn't even a wheat penny but a fairly new one. It was at the bottom of a slope and maybe the dirt wash down on it to put the coin deeper. Finding money is great but finding old coins is better than great. For the 45 years I've been detecting I have yet to find a gold coin.but lots of silver. Chuck -

Ridge Runner replied to gambler's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
gambler I have a digging tool like the ad you see in Lost Treasure. The blade is off set. What I done was get a bike handle bar grip that has a big rubber ring so my hand wouldn't slip off It work good just like it came but that's me. Like everything else it's gone up in price. It will cost you 62 plus 9.95 to ship.Call 800-423-0029 ext.2 will get you one. Chuck -
