  1. I like how the shaft can twist when collapsed, fitting easier into a backpack . However, there is a tendency for the shaft to twist while detecting, which for me is only a minor issue. I am trying to be careful by not over tightening the camlocks as I don't know what is to tight. Perhaps I am being to careful, hence the shaft occasionally twists because I haven't learned the sweet spot between under/over tightening of the camlock.
  2. This is speculation on my part because I don't have the machine yet. I think the reasoning behind Toddy running the lower ferrous limit wide open, is to increase the separation and un-masking of small cut hammered coins close to iron which are dragged down into the ferrous zone and therefore missed if lower limit was set high. Ferrous and non ferrous targets will sound good outside the grey ferrous zone and will be hard detecting on trashy ground. Nuances in audio response and the indication on screen of a tight dot for a hammered, rather than larger smudge or smearing for trash, may help to distinquish between good and bad targets.
  3. Looks like the guy's from down under are back to front as well 😁
  4. BEACH METAL DETECTING WITH THE MINELAB MANTICORE Just seen this video of a metal detecting meet up in Australia, this must have been an organised event as some of the treasure was already placed in the ground. The Manticore looks impressive in its un-masking ability of good stuff next to trash and the Equinox 900 also did well.
  5. With my Equinox 800, crushed drinks cans and big pieces of aluminium would show a good TID so if the Manticore can tell me theres large aluminium under my feet with better accuracy then I'm happy.
  6. Thank you for the info, I just seen a video of a crushed aluminium can giving different traces on the screen, depending on depth and orientation. You are right, theres more to it than just conductivity.
  7. Thank you for explaining, what you said makes sense with positioning on the screen depends on their metallic composition. I have seen videos where objects bigger than coins and rings had a bigger blob on the screen and I think that would be helpful knowing its less likely to be a good target.
  8. My last comment was misleading. The shapes of the pull tab and gold ring wont tell me its those objects but rather there is a difference between the two, enough for me whether to dig or not. If I'm on the beach and cherry picking targets, I could ignore odd shapes which are more likely to be objects other than coins and rings.
  9. I'm sure what you are getting at?. What you mentioned doesn't change my observation that the pull tab and gold ring were of different shapes on the screen. My comments were based on whether target trace gave additional infomation, compared to numbers and audio on making a decision whether to dig or not. It allows me to distinguish between a pull tab and gold ring.
  10. The target trace screen shows the shape of an object which is extra information. I've seen a video where a gold ring is displayed on the screen as a round blob and a pull tab showing as slightly elongated shape, something numbers or audio tones can't do.
  11. The easiest way I can imagine the 2D target ID map being better than just having number/tone target ID. If its an iffy signal and the numbers and tones are jumping all over the place. I'm thinking its either iron falsing or a good target close to iron?, looking at the screen I see a blob on the conductivity line and a smudge in the ferrous zone, I know its a good target next to iron
  12. I'm hoping the Manticore's new enhanced audio theme which varies according to size and depth of a target, will also give an audiable distinction for subtle differences in shape between close conductors like ring pulls, aluminium foil and gold rings? I used to love how my old Sovereign GT BBS machine would tell me through audio discrimination what was under my feet. Its hard to describe in words but I could distinquish between small aluminium foil and a hammered coin just through the roughness, purity or intensity of a signal, something my Multi-IQ Equinox 800 couldn't do as well in my humble opinion. So if the Manticore through its new audio themes can discriminate better than what came before then I will be very happy to own one.
  13. I've been wanting to upgrade from the Equinox 800 and the new 900 doesn't offer enough improvements to justify buying that machine. It will be nice to own a 700/900 dont get me wrong but the Manticore with that 2D target ID screen is a very tempting acquisition. I get that some people wont be able to afford a more expensive machine and the 900 will be the next best thing. Being able to use older coils is nice and It will be interesting to see how much better the 700/900 is performance wise over the older Equinox models. Anyone just starting out in the hobby will be more than happy with an older Nox as it has found me great stuff over the years and prices will be dropping so a good bargain to be had.
  14. On my local beach I agree, weather conditions plays a big factor when trying to work the low tide area. My local beach does best after a good storm, when the sand may get shifted enough to reach deep targets previously missed, I don't necessarily have to be at the low water mark. Reaching the depth the targets have sunk too is what matters, at least on my beach that is. Took me a long time to realise that sand can be deposited or removed depending on tides and weather conditions.
