  1. Did it come with a coil cover? How about an instruction booklet or is that online? Thanks, for being the go to guy on this. GaryC/Oregon Coast.
  2. Haven't seen much action on my local beaches since moving to Oregon these last couple of years. Beaches here are drastically different than my So. Cal. beaches. Took me years to learn my cuts and where to find them at my southern haunts. Now I'm having to learn these new beasts and it's been painfully bare of gold or coins. The beaches near me (Central Coast) are not what you consider bathing beaches. You don't see many people on the sand with blankets. These are dog walking bundle yourself up look for shells and rocks type of beaches. Luckily I also live near a river that runs right into the ocean and it requires a stone jetty to support it on either side. When the high tide pushes the river over the stone jetty to overflow it produces a slew or a calm saltwater wading pool for kiddies and young mothers. A perfect place for a towel to be put down to watch the toddler. This is where I will be finding my GOLD in the future. Ten minutes into the hunt I get a solid 10 on the Nox 800. 14kt, 2.5 gram gold ring with 4 seed diamonds (tested) and an opal. Picked up maybe ten dimes, 10 pennies, 4 nickels, an earring and four lead bullets which also read solid 10's on the Nox. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  3. So a bunch of poor souls had to stay on the outside and watch the fun on the inside of the roped off area. Fantastic video! GaryC/Oregon Coast
  4. So, what I am reading is, that this is strictly a Gold Hunting Machine! Silver items (or any other coin makeup) will be missed on the beach at any level. A machine dedicated for finding gold items only. I'm only asking about the beach dedicated one that is presently being produced. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  5. I can see lots and lots of people offering you rides to the beach! I live in Oregon and may be thinking of it! Please don't post your going to the beach ahead of time. The beach will be cleaned out!! GaryC/Oregon Coast
  6. My wife usually throws in the "I DON'T NEED A METAL DETECTOR" to find good stuff, and she doesn't. She's constantly finding coins on the ground in parking lots, store floors, coin starr machines, you name it, she tops me everytime!! It's all good! I give her due and she gives me my space. 7. That's is one of the more unusual error finds I have seen in the wild. Like you said, condition is always the determining factor in any desirable coin. It is certainly an "Oddity"! Nice Find! GaryC/Oregon Coast
  8. This is your plan to impress your "soon to be fiancée"? Tell me at least, you know how to operate a metal detector. Please have plane B in hand. I'm pulling for you big time. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  9. I'll use cash till the day I die! No plastic for me. Drives the cashiers mad when I give them odd cents to even out my purchase not to get pennies in change. They often give me more back in change then I was supposed to get originally. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  10. How far down does your silver lay, in that park? GaryC/Oregon Coast
  11. When you see him, tell him Hi from Gary Crabtree! He bought a Dale meteorite from me years ago. He was only a student then. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  12. Too bad you don't have access to a 15" coil. Would cover a bit more ground quicker. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  13. I think they just want to see that we did promise to clean out the trash. It was only sent to them in a picture, not physically! I don't believe many people believe how much garbage is below the surface of those freshly cut park lawns. As detectorist we seem to be the only group of people who are obligated to prove our right to use the parks for our hobby. At least that is what I have come up against when talking to some park personnel. I should have posted that picture we sent the Eugene parks department (big error on my part, as I don't have that photo). It was probably in excess of ten pounds of stuff. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  14. Had a two story garage/shop/storage loft build overtake my life these last ten months, leaving not much free time to metal detect or fish in my newly adopted state of Oregon. Well that has been happily concluded with satisfactory results. The Eugene club (55 miles from me) got an invite to hunt a County Park not usually open for detectorists under the conditions they provide proof of all the trash they collect at the end of the hunt. Well that could be arranged very easily and the club got all it's members to show up last Sunday to this park and we had at it. I have to say I haven't touched my 800 for quite awhile now and was really concerned I was not going to know how to operate it again. I basically just wanted to get back into digging all signals and re-train myself again on the positive signals. I always liked hunting in all metal with the X-Terra and sorting out all the signals, so that is what I did this trip. This particular park is not that trashy and has pretty mild soil anyway. I have the 15" coil and started with that one for the first two hours. Most coins were no deeper than 3" and very easy to pinpoint with that big coil. I was only using a handheld digger while most others were using long handled spades. I can see using long handled spades for deeper coins, especially if using the 15" coil because pinpointing would be getting a bit harder then. By lunch time I changed to the stock 11" coil and did much better hitting the two rings my first two targets. Don't ask me the numbers because I was hunting in all metal and I don't really look at the numbers anymore. Since we were also looking for trash I was pretty much digging all targets good numbers or not. By days end, maybe five hours the club had a nice haul of pop tops, cans, slaw, nails, general trash to make the County happy and secure another invite back at another time. A good days work and a needed re-training day for me. At the end of the day I felt I hadn't forgot that much, like I had thought. Muscle memory is a wonderful thing. I ended up with 36 coins, a mood ring, a possible silver ring (not marked), a flying brain pin back, a button, a set of house keys, and a gold colored (CORO) 1960's costume jewelry necklace which gave me a heart attack when I saw the brief glint of GOLD. 15. I'd say you are in the right place, for a four gallon sample!!! GaryC/Oregon Coast
  16. Lots of it in the fields when I hunted England. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  17. Welcome Walt! We go back to the days of hunting with the Riverside Treasure Hunters. I permanently moved to Oregon (Florence) maybe a year or so after you made your move. You have come to the right site. I miss my 29 Palms nugget trips, BIG TIME. GaryC/Oregon Coast (Gary Crabtree)
  18. Right man for the job. The husband at least had the insight to look up a local. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  19. Nice! How long before someone will be finding that one in the park? GaryC/Oregon Coast
  20. Overwhelmed another one!!! Haaaa! Hope he comes back. GaryC/Oregon Coast
  21. Depending on your location to a larger or medium size town, some libraries put out their used magazines for a nominal price. Also my local thrift stores sell magazines of all types very reasonably. Not free but better than retail. GaryC/Oregon Coast
