  1. I am mostly happy with what Minelab is doing with the Nox except them not offering more coils considering they have the molds ready to go.
  2. I think George Payne said a American dime(flat) hits best around 3 kz. I have used the xterra with 3kz and it hits good on dimes if there is not to much junk.
  3. While there at it add 3kz. too since that is the best freq. for American dimes.
  4. If your having fun detecting then you are doing it right.I remember one time in early October in the big lake hunting a good 3foot cut near shore in dead flat calm conditions at night with the beach flood lights on and the beach empty of people.I was getting rings and coins and had a school of minnows shadow me most of the time . A peaceful hunt I won't forget.
  5. When it comes to the dry sand I have not found gold in 3 years and none of my buddies have found any this year even though we have put in many of hours. We have been getting a ton of clad though every time we go out compared to other years. My friend did find a womans engagement ring for a woman yesterday that was white gold on the beach so she was fortunate I told him to give it 20 min. because I had a feeling he was going to get a good find. Her lucky day.
  6. You do have 2 for the Tars. machine last time I checked so that puts that machine on the board here.
  7. All the gold but 1 has been sitting in the lakes for years probably and I only have one recent drop.4 were in a cut near clay with iron in the big lake an are a older style with one a unmarked rose gold flower ring.
  8. The Mdt seems to do good in the wet salt sand game for gold and that is a very important game to be good at in my book and even more with gold at 1900 bucks.
  9. I am betting OBN will be giving the Excal and the AQ a big boost for the totals for those machines.
  10. I like it that you can hunt both fresh and salt water beaches.
  11. I know what your talking about because I pulled that mertich sifter.I would bring a gallon of water and pace myself and jump in the water if I got to hot.It was fun checking what was in the sifter since it caught almost anything that went in it.
  12. For me I have 7 gold rings that were all found with the Nox in the water. There were 5 in lake Ontario and 2 in the Finger lakes. I have a streak of 4 days in a row in the big lake with 2 in one day.
  13. It seems to me that the technology of the MXT at the time it came out was a big plus for those who used it at that time.As good as some of todays machines are they were not available then when it counted to get a good first shot at that gold..
  14. You have taken the rake twice and have scored twice which is good for trying a new toy.
  15. The first time I ever hunted with this coil got me silver and found some coins by the poles in this pounded play ground. It was not much in coins at 62 cents ,but they were close to the metal poles and were missed because they have been there or a while. The silver I found was a earring back that was a tad longer then an 1/8 inch and a tad less in width then an 1/'8 inch which is the smallest silver or gold jewelry that I ever found.I also found a clad stud earring. This coil falses if I move it to fast and is not as stable as the 6inch coil which I don't understand.I like this machine more then my Nox for tot-lots.It was less then a grain in weight for the earring back.
  16. If you like the Nox or don't this machine has changed the way detectors are priced in our favor. It also spawned the Vanquish series at a super low price for a MF machine that has good performance across the board.Like Bobby Orr changed the way the game of hockey is played, this machine has changed the way detectors are priced for now.
  17. That is hit a .5 grain Lawrence high antimony #9 lead pellet buried a full 2inches in moderate ground. The Gmx did it no problem in all angles with a little to spare with 6" coil .The X-terra with 6"dd in 18kz did not give a signal at max sens.I see why you use gold machines for tiny targets because they make a big difference and because if there is more small gold compared to big gold=more action. This was in a high emi setting in my yard with many power lines close by but done at mid - night when emi was less. The Emi would effect the Gmx certain times of the day where the signal was more skewed.
  18. When I used the old f e-0 setting I had to pullback on them to get them to give me that grunt which is very time consuming after a while because the caps are so plentiful . I still dug a lot of them because many times I was not sure I heard the grunt because of being exhausted with all these caps.It is much more enjoyable now.
  19. I went water hunting over the weekend where there are plenty of bottle caps and being able to use f2-7 in iron bias I dug 90% less then I did a year ago when it was not an option.I could have probably did better if I tried f2-9.If they had a concentric coil it could be even better with the bottle caps .I found no gold or silver on this trip but 4.54 in change,3clad jewelry and 2 musket balls.I did dig plenty of pulltabs and even had 9 nickels . You can't win them all.My gold count is only 4 this year.I also found no gold at this spot the last time I hunted but found 7 silver jewelry,1 merk, and 5 buffalo nickels and only a few bottle caps.i like the f2 option indeed.
  20. Yes. Totally different.A dry sand one is 30 inches wide about 20 inches deep. You pull a handle and the blade cuts through the sand.Water one is smaller with teeth.Lost treasure did a article on one and have a picture. You can check out united volley ball supplies on you tube and see what a dry sand one looks like ,it has 2 back wheels and you pull. The mertich handle is different but the same idea.
  21. If your good at building things build yourself a mertich pull sifter for the water. They are not as wide and have teeth to get down a bit. I had his book but my friend lost it.
  22. The one good thing about Bull sharks is they can't live in cold water to long. For you Ches. bay hunters they are GONE in winter.
  23. There is folklore about a bull shark attack in Lake Michigan in 1955.I am not kidding. Google it.
  24. That is 2 giant honkers and then some.No words can describe that.It is funny that you got your biggest gold ring in freshwater even though they are more like inland seas. What did you think of hunting lake Michigan and freshwater ?Was it the only time you hunted it ?You got a great big ring in a great big lake. All rings over 30 grams are now called OBN Great lakes special type ring.
