In my now bone dry ground I buried this target at about 3inches,maybe a tad more.With the earring lying flat on the ground and the post facing me I might get a weak signal one way but it is so soft and not repeatable that it would be hard to hunt this way with the GMX and 4by6 coil.It is hard also to tell it from a false signal.This coil with the cover on is a fail for me in this test.The earring is 10k at 2.8 grains.

When it is a Jesuit ring which mostly hit as a nickel. They have no precious metal usually, but better then most gold rings in my book..

That is a nice find.I would find big hooks that they used when they cut ice blocks to ship for preserving food in one lake.

I tried the 4 by6 for the Gmx on this target and I barely got a hit that was hard to set apart from some of the false signals I got.The real signals finish there sound where false signals keep going and are not consistent. It would be tough to get this target with this coil. I tried a 1/10 grain nugget by putting it on the ground and it hit it over and inch.It seems this small coil is more for surface targets for small gold.

It is like getting a hole in one in golf ,you won't get paid for it but you won't forget it.At least you get free food at the gold coin club lodge.

There is no doubt that the Nox with 6" coil is a killer combo for jewelry.Also are you hunting a roped swim area because they opened one yesterday in the Finger Lakes where I hunt.They also opened one in Lake Ontario.

Metal detecting is also a sport and those are tough targets to find and tough to catch in your scoop unless you prepare for them. Good job.

In your ground Steve would a f75 go deeper in true all metal vs . Nox in the multi gold modes on a nickel in your opinion?

I put on the 6inch coil for nox to test my hoop earring first in pk2 multi freq and 22 sens. and got pretty good hit at some angles with low number id plus some iron id numbers.in 20 kz. it was weaker and a ugly signal with bad id.In 40 kz. it was a better hit with not as ugly a signal. 20 kz. was 24 sens and 40kz .was 25. I would normally dig multi and probably 40kz.I then put it in gold 2 and multi with 23 sens and it hit very hard with 2 inches to spare with nice id mostly and more angles that were better.In 20kz. at sens. of 24 it gave a nice signal with mostly iron id.In 40 kz. at 25 sens it hit very hard with mixed id and 2 inches to spare.i liked multi best here and this target was easier then GMX to work because you can move nice with short fast swings to isolate target. Equinox best here in my opinion in multi gold mode.With the GMX you are not as confident in the id as the Nox since it can wrap around more.Still the Gmx hits it very nice when you center it in the bulls eye.

What are the ohms since whites says to use greater then 60 ohm headphones.

I have a headphone adapter for 1/4 inch.Whites said to use better headphones for smaller targets for GMX. I wonder what are the best headphones for GMX/24k?

I tried the xterra 6'' 18kz. dd coil on this earring first in the prospect mode and I got a very weak soft signal with no room to spare. I then tried it in the coin mode in 1 tone and got a very weak soft signal with no room to spare and -8 negative numbers constantly.The goldbug pro with 5inch coil would probably do about the same from what I hear. This test I would call up in the air depending on the person.

I was detecting about 8 years ago when someone walking on the beach handed me a earring they just picked up on the shoreline.That was the easiest gold I ever got. This is the test target which is .53 grams and 3/4 inches in diameter thin hoop yellow 10k earring that I buried a little over 4'' with open clasp which is way more difficult.I tried the GMX with a 10 sens. and boost 2 with sat in middle setting and I got a soft signal on the target and I could lift the coil and still get it in 1 direction but in other angles it was a little weaker.It seems you need more coil control on this machine for tough targets with the sat.This test is a pass.

I went and tested the 4gram 18k small 18k white gold chain at 5".I tried pk2 in multi freq. first with sens. setting of 22 and got a iron-non iron hit that might make me dig. I then did 20ks. at 24 setting and got a worse hit with weaker sound and mostly iron id. I then tried it at 40kz.and got stronger hit with iron and some non iron hits which might make me dig. I went in to gold 2 mode multi freq. first at 23 sens.and got solid hit with iron-non iron hits that would make me dig and I could raise coil about 2".I put it in 20 kz. and got nice but soft sound with iron id at 24 setting. I then went to 40 kz.at 25 setting and got a nice strong hit with iron- non iron id and could lift coil about 3inches.Also in 40kz. I could turn on object that the nearby junk caused problems and pick out the target better then all other situations. This coil did as good as GMX with stronger sounds since GMX is soft on deep targets.

You seem like a fun guy Gerry.You do better when you have fun.I met Chris Gholson and his father at Stanton an they were good guys.It was 2002 and I picked up a 4gram nugget that was 22k plus with nice size 14k chain for $120 at that show.

A gold stud earring is a weaker target then the ones I tested.I don't think you could get a 5inch buried stud earring.I will try a small 4mm10k yellow gold stud in future.My 10k white gold stud is only 3 mm and is very tough target.Things have to be perfect to find one of these.

For some reason I am getting a lot of change on the dry sand beaches in this cashless society.No gold or silver though.

My friend says the worst thing you can do is put a hot machine in cold water.Splash it and dunk it in and out so it can cool down more slowly or you make cause it stress.

I tried a sens. setting of 15 in pk2 and mult freq. on the 2 targets I just tested and the chain gave a soft hit with the right tone and id number. The ring gave a soft sound with the right tone sound but with no id numbers at that sens. setting.

I tested the 6" coil on my deep white gold ring that is tiny and sub gram and gives a 2 for a id number on a air test. I tried pk1 first and all I got was a soft iron sound which is a no go unless your desperate.I then tried pk2 in multi freq. with a sens. of 22 and got a great hit with good id.I put it in 20kz. in same mode and got a average hit with mixed positive and neg. numbers.I then put it in 40kz. and it gave a real good hit with more positive numbers. all did better or worse depending on the angle.I then put it in gold2 mode and multi freq. for the first test and sens. at 23 and it slammed it with great id numbers and I could lift coil about 4'' and still get it. I put it 20kz. and it gave a great hit with good up average numbers .I then put it in 40 kz. and it slammed it at a 25 sens. setting.I could lift the coil about 5'' off the ground and still get it. I will try the toughest of these targets next which is my 18k white gold chain.This coil has it's place.Also a id of 2 is small for a ring..

My friend found a Timex watch that was in the water for a long time.It was totally covered in zebra mussles and it still worked.He cleaned them off and uses it when he goes water hunting now .That is a watch that took a licken and kept on ticken.
