  1. I have a beach that has a lot of junk because it is old ,had a beach house close to the water that was torn down plus a train that ran next to it that was built in 1874 which was 50 years before beach house was built. I still have not used my 6inch coil in the water.
  2. I took the 11inch coil off because it was on backwards and I finally noticed it. I did good with it on backwards.I put on the 6" coil and tested my tough targets.I tested the 5'' deep 18k yellow gold chain first in pk2 and it was great. In multi freq. It hit the chain solid with a great id of 1-2.Same mode but in 20kz.I get a good hit with mostly up average numbers where I would dig if I was chain hunting.I put it in 40kz. and it hit better with better sounding up average numbers.I then put it in gold 2 mode and could run multi freq. up to 23 and it slammed it with great id numbers .I put it then in 20kz. and it hit it good with nice up average numbers.I put it in 40kz. and it slammed it with great up average sounding numbers. The 6inch coil is a winner on this target in many different settings.I will do a write up on the small deep white gold ring next. The 6inch coil has it's place for small gold.
  3. I did not know that John Lennon metal detected(The man in the green plad shirt with the sun glasses.)
  4. You can't replace those Kodak moments. Living in the Rochester area you also see what happened to a company that made mistakes. 62,000 people working for them in 1982 alone in a mid size city.Kodak Park was a city in a city. They invented the digital camera in the 70's.I knew one worker who was in the Rochester ANA coin club who had all 5 1913 v nickles in his possession at a meeting when the club had them there before 1962, when one went missing after for many years. He was the president of that club in 1964. Oldest ANA club that did not disband .Pitt the famous coin collecter worked for Kodak too and was in that club I think.
  5. That is a gonegirl ring. You bring it home and a girl see's it and it is gone. Beautiful ring.
  6. I went and grabbed my 18k white gold chain. This is about 4 grams and 15inches long.It is only about 1mm wide that has 2mm white gold balls every inch and a half.I buried this very tough target at about 5inches.I grabbed the Gmx first with the 6inch concentric. It hit this target good at 1 angle with a soft hit with not much room to spare, but at other angles there were more 1 way hits or weaker hits.Still I could use pinpoint mode to get this target too.I then tried the 11 inch coil on the Nox in pk2 plus the gold modes.I have junk about 12 inches away and in all the ways I tried before could not get a confident hit that I knew was the target and not false signal or junk from nearby.I then tried X-terra with 6 inch 18kz dd coil and got barely a sound at one angle and others could not tell or no signal.GMX best in this situation by far.Getting these types of tough targets gives you bragging rights in my book.As hard as it gets when it comes to being successful in the sport of metal detecting. You need patients and a lot of energy.
  7. I tried the 6inch 18kz. coil on the X- terra in coin mode and got a wrap around signal that might make me dig on the rope chain. In prospect mode I got a nice soft signal and was able to lift coil about an inch before I lose the target.I tried the 8inch mono on the infinium and that was a no go.
  8. If I am hunting in Lake Ontario and I get about 15 nickles I usually have some gold.So I say you got robbed Steve. And hunting a lake when it is low is a joy.We hunted a lake that was 3feet lower and it made hunting easier and more efficient plus we could go out deeper then before. One time it was dead calm and that was pure joy.Gold, silver coins, silver jewelry, plenty of clad and some relics. This was a finger lake. When it comes to the Great lakes and ocean I think OBN and Clive have hunted both for members here and they could comment on hunting these.Andy Sabich hunted a large lake called Onieda by Syracuse and that was his first honey hole.He and his friends got 1000's of gold here I heard.I hunted here and got 2 gold in 3 times hunting this fine white sand on the west end of that lake.I would like to try Nox and AQ type pulse here because some of the stuff can be deep. It is a easy 100 mile drive mostly down the thruway. That west end of that shallow lake can get some good size waves.
  9. True, We also don't have to deal with salt water or sharks even though there is folklore about a kid getting attacked in 1955 in Lake Michigan at Chicago. The Great lakes also has a sieche where one part of the lake can be 10 feet higher then other side. These conditions can create very strong currents in certain places. Sometimes after a storm the coins and gold lay in plain site on the black sand where you just eyeball them. The 18k chain in my test today was such a target. We also don't have ocean type tides every day.
  10. You can get some good storm cuts in the Great lakes.A spot could be down to the clay then the sand shifts and same spot could have 6 feet of sand.Things always change in The Great lakes.
  11. If a machine helps you because of your injuries it will help you concentrate better on metal detecting then the pain you are getting because of a heavy machine.Use what makes you happier but still gets the job done..
  12. The chain I am testing is the type a Fbs machine can 't hit or barely gets it . An 8 gram 20 inch 18k yellow gold rope type chain. The xterra ground reading for my testing site is about 24,000. At 0-10,000 =mild ground,10-100,000= moderate ground,100, 000-1,000,000 =hot ground. The ground phase is about a 8.At a reading over 20 you should use a concentric, under 20= dd coil. That is for xterra machine which is single frequency machine that switches frequencies.I tried the 48 kz. Gmx first an it hit the about 5inch deep chain with no problem and above 50 id numbers and I could raise the coil about 3 inches. That is very good.I then tried the Nox in pk.1 and that was a no go.I then tried pk.2 in multi freq. and 20 sens. and got a nice 1-2 id in mulit tone.I tried 20kz. in pk2 and got average hit with up average id.I tried 40kz. and got a better hit with more solid up averaging in the id.I then went to gold 2 mode and mulit freq. and 20 sens. and got great hit with solid id. In 20 kz. in gold mode it did pretty good with up average numbers. In 40 kz it hit harder then all because I could crank sens. to 24 with up average numbers that would make me dig. With this machine you could hunt silver with the best of them then change modes and hunt tough gold with the best of them.I tried the xterra with the 9inch 18kz .concentric and in coin mode I got a wrap around signal that might make me dig.In prospect mode I got good soft signal with 2 inches of air over target to spare. The test for Nox is with 11 inch coil. The Gmx had 6 inch concentric.
  13. The MXT was there to give you a first shot at that gold and that is a big deal. That tech. at those times made you money .The Nox was not in the picture yet. You used what gave you success for the time you were hunting in.
  14. I hope someone keeps the GMX and 24k going. It would be nice for Garrett to have a great high frequency machine in their lineup by getting it.Their machine still has the record for biggest nugget in the Hand of Faith.I am surprised A minelab has not beaten that with it' s depth.
  15. Sleeker unit then the Gmx battery holder. The Gmx uses the infinium battery holder so that is a big plus in case one breaks and I need one fast.
  16. Very good hunting Okara gold. The freshwater hunters will be able to hit chains harder because they can use park 2 or the gold modes. My pullsifter has 1/4 inch holes so you have to watch or they can go in the holes like a snake.Sometimes they get tangled up in all the junk.I enjoy using a pullsifter. It discriminates by size.I want to try 1/8 inch holes like a Keene bucket classifier.I could catch a diamond and it would sift as good as my spread out 1/4 inch holes.
  17. My friend Tony is the one who made grave-digger max his titanium scoop as a gift.He made me a mertich pull sifter also as a gift.I pulled very small gold,a few chains, coins, and lots of glass on the beach. Also pulled out bottle caps galore.I even took it in the water one time and got a silver ring even though water ones are smaller. Mine was 30 inches wide. You have to pace yourself with this machine. It is Hard work.I need to get it fixed .
  18. I found the silver where a amusement park was on this lake. At an old torn down pier where they left a lot of nails was the hot spot for silver. Most of the coins that were old were about 40 yards from shore. This lake stays shallow for a while at this end.Me and my friend got over 20 halves here.I even got 2 in 1 scoop. Also about 450 yards away I got my oldest silver coin ever in this lake about 7 years ago. It was a 1736 2 reale Spanish coin.I also found a 1 reale from 1776.My friend got a worn 1802 bust dime years back.We find musket balls here like OBN finds gold. They are all over the place.
  19. I went water hunting yesterday and got no gold but I did get a no date-s standing liberty quarter,a1905 -o barber quarter,1939 merc plus a no date buffalo.I also got a little silver ring. You don't have to get gold to have a good day.The place was mobbed with people but it always has enough room.I used my Nox.
  20. When you had the xterra did you use the 3kz,and how did that work on your coins?
  21. I don't know if I want to take my Gmx in the water now. What if it leaks then what do I do? I wonder if my 4by 6 coil also has problems.I did not fix my Tesoro tiger shark when I had the chance.I buy 2 whites in a month after 20 years and this happens. I hope a American company buys the 24k design.
  22. With the infinium I barely ever found white gold.Only when it was a big and shallow wedding band did I usually come home with white gold. The At gold was much better on the white gold to me even with the little 5by 8 coil. Small and deep ones would give you no sound or a junky signal. I imagine platinum is about the same.I have only found one platinum and it was on the clay with a couple inches of sand in 34degree water when platinum was over $ 2000 .I did get one small and heavy white gold ring digging a very faint signal also in cold water just because I was digging heavy objects and digging kept we warm with infinium.I think it was the Garrett 2006 catalog that I was in for the infinium.
  23. You have the warranty so you might as well use it.You also have a better chance of getting gold if you can go deeper.
  24. Less then a gram and barely fits on my pinky. That may be to small.A white gold engagement ring would be nice.
