  1. What the quote in my reply above should have been.
  2. Me too! My detecting time is limited and I try to learn more about a detector as I detect. Sometimes I’ll do a test or two to clear up a question I may have.
  3. Congrats! I always love to see a barber come out of the ground.
  4. Ok, I assumed wrong in my thinking that everything that hits below the disc setting in full tones gives an iron tone. I just tested this with a rusty nail that rings up as 3. If I set my disc to anything above 3 I get no tone at all. 3 and below gives me a low iron tone. I tested this in general 1 FT and program 3 (sensitive FT). I also tried it with a zinc penny and a shotgun shell headstamp. The penny came in at 83 with a high tone with disc set at 83 or below. Any disc setting above 83 and I get no tone (silence). Same with headstamp which rang up at 72. So I tried the same experiment in pitch. In pitch tones anything that rings in below your disc setting comes in with an iron tone. Doesn’t matter if ferrous or non-ferrous. For example, that zinc penny will come in with an iron tone if I set my disc at 84 or higher. i really wish full tones would act in the same manner! There’s many instances where I want to hear the iron below my disc setting in full tones. I really like full tones, but if the disc is working like a notch where you don’t hear anything then disc settings don’t seem to serve a purpose imo. For example if I’m hunting in the woods and want to hear iron to see where there was activity I can set my disc to 6 or so. But then I should also be able to notch out small foil so I don’t hear that. I guess I’ll just have to set my disc really low like 0 or 1.
  5. Just wondering: if I’m using full tones and have my disc set to 6 so I can hear low tones on iron, but I also set a notch from 6-35 to knock out foil and small canslaw, I will not hear any tone from 6-35, correct? I want to be able to hear low tones on iron only. However, if I set the disc at 35 with no notch at all, I’ll hear low tones on small foil and such all the way to 35. Is this correct? Again I’m talking when I’m in full tones.
  6. If you have sites that that you can hunt multiple times just try different programs each time you go. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t be afraid to try a certain program. Obviously this doesn’t work to your advantage if you have a site where you have a one-time shot at it.
  7. I updated last night. I live in a house provided by my employer and am on their internet which blocks foreign sites. Luckily the maintenance building is on a different provider that will let me go to XP’s site. So I have to load up the detector stuff and my laptop and park right outside the maintenance building to do the update. Last night, even though I followed all the prompts in order, I got an error with the first two attempts. The third time I did it, it worked. The ws6 puck updated on the first try. I tried .71 out in my yard when I got home and it seemed to work fine. I’m really glad they fixed the pinpoint glitch. I don’t use pinpoint that much, but it’s nice to have it working properly.
  8. Damn, that was a hell yeah moment when that second spur came out of the ground. Congrats!
  9. Those are awesome finds! I’d be happy just finding one of those brass shotgun shells! Lol I’d be ecstatic finding a spur! What’s your method for cleaning those finds? Everything looks so nice.
  10. I made another trip to the spring on the hill again this evening. Nearly the same finds as last time. 14 headstamps and one more if that brass band is part of one. 4-16 gauge and 10-12 gauge. One of the 12 gauge is labeled US ROMAX. I never heard of that one before. I also found a bigger piece of iron that looks like a cultivator blade. Then I found another one shaped more like a shovel head. I forgot to take a pic of it. On the way back down the hill I got nice high tone but mixed with iron as I turned on it. I said to myself “I bet this is a pocket knife”. And sure enough it was! Lots of activity around the springs up there. I say springs, plural, because there are three spring heads all within about a 100’ radius. With all the stuff I’m finding, there has to be another coin besides the two mercs I found the other day.
  11. My contribution to my brothers. This was found yesterday evening near the newly discovered spring that I found the other day. Two more 10 gauge headstamps along with six 12 gauge and five 16 gauge. The piece of electrical wire is confusing as there aren’t any remnants of a house or cabin and no known source of electricity on this mountain side.
  12. If you have to turn off the ws6 manually, then it’s become unpaired via the update process. If it’s paired it will turn off when you turn the remote off. I had to manually (the process to do this is in the manual) re-pair mine after the update.
  13. Not too deep, around 6” if I’m remembering correctly.
  14. I gotta give you a big HELL YEAH for this one! A gold coin is at the top of my bucket list. Congrats!!
  15. No, it’s not aluminum. It’s got the weight of silver and no oxidation like aluminum gets when it’s in the ground for a long time. You’ll eventually get a silver half. This is my fourth but it was a long time between the first and second.
  16. Thanks for the tips! I was also running park mode in full tones with disc at 8 and 8-35 notched out. It ran much quieter of course. I need to get in the habit of checking the horseshoe meter. I did double check some of the deep hc signals with the park program I had set up. Some of those nails sounded pretty good in deep hc and I couldn’t resist. Lol
  17. What a unique find! Congrats!
  18. Thanks Bob! That half ran up 96-97 but it wasn’t a clear tone probably because of a roofing nail that was in with it. Btw, all the old rusty nails sounded good in deep hc. I had my disc at -6.4 so no disc at all. I think my reactivity was at 2. I’ll eventually figure out the tone nuances of rusty nails! Lol
  19. I got out this morning hoping to add to yesterday’s two mercs. Today I went to a spot in town where there’s a gravel parking lot. There used to be two houses where the gravel area is but the front yards are still there and still in grass. I hunted there two weeks ago and got 10 wheats so I figured there had to be a silver lurking there somewhere. I got four wheats and a few copper memorials and clad dimes. But I also got a nice deep high tone. (This time I was using a full tones version of park and a full tones version of deep HC.) When I stuck my shovel in the ground I realized it was in a plug I had dug out two weeks ago! I just had to dig deeper. Lol. Out came my first silver spoon. This one’s not plated, it’s the real deal, even though there’s no markings on the part I found. 34 grams of silver! Not long after that closer to the gravel area I got a 96-97 with some iron tones coming through. When I flipped the plug over a large silver disc fell out of it. A 1943 walker! That made my day! Oh, check out the stack of coin pack condoms! Lol!
  20. Pics of the spring closer to my house. These springs are in my estimation about a quarter mile from each other with the one I just found maybe a 150-200 feet higher in elevation.
  21. When I don’t feel like driving anywhere I usually go up the hill in the woods by my house. This property is owned by the company I work for so I have free reign of it. Not too long ago I was up there and besides headstamps and bullets I found a harmonica reed. So yesterday I headed up there and found an area where I was getting a lot of iron signals. First thing I dug was an old rusty handsaw blade. Then I found what I think is an iron stirrup. Not sure if that’s what it is, but maybe someone here can give a positive ID. Then I started finding headstamps including only my second 10 gauge headstamp. As I worked my way up a small branch, I noticed a rock spring well! I was detecting as I walked towards it and got a nice sweet high tone well using sensitive FT. It rang up 91-93 and I just knew it was going to be a silver dime. I was hoping for a barber, but it was a ‘34 merc. I rescanned that hole and got a another exact same signal about a foot away and out pops a ‘24 merc! I’m so happy I found this spot because I have another place close to home to go. BTW, there’s another old spring with similar rock work that is closer to my house. I’ve pounded that one and got I think five silvers. Although the rock work is similar the one close to the house uses mortar but the one up the hill looks to be dry stacked.
