  1. I bought that exact same scoop a few years back for my occasional trip to the beach. I contacted the guy that sells them and had him weld a 1” wide solid band across the back of the mesh basket thinking that the mesh would bend if I pushed on it with my foot. He did it at no extra charge! However that mesh is extremely stout and, for my use, I probably didn’t need that extra band.
  2. I decided to hunt the woods of the property where I work. I’ve probably mentioned this before, but the property dates back to the early 1900s as a resort/vacation destination for folks coming up from the lowcountry area of South Carolina to the higher, cooler mountain air of the NC mountains. I was hitting the occasional shotgun headstamp when I came upon an area with a ton of iron signals. The old lock was about 12” deep and was ringing up like a silver half. Also found were two old pocket knives, part of a kerosene lamp, a button (probably from bib coveralls), various shot shell headstamps, a junk ring (probably more modern than the other finds as this area is pretty close to a walking trail), a clad dime and copper memorial. The 1903 dime was found on property about a quarter mile away from the other stuff. I also found a 3 merry widows tin near that dime.
  3. Two big bens in one hunt deserves a “hell yeah”!
  4. This site is fairly small…maybe 75’x150’. I found three of those wheats inside a 4’x4’ section that I’m positive I’ve been over before. It did rain the night before so I’m sure that helped. Another thing about this site is that there’s hardly any clad or copper memorials. Also of those 8 wheats, the deepest was maybe 5”. Most were 2”-3”. If I had heard them on previous trips I may have passed over them because they sounded larger than a coin normally does. That last paragraph of yours really sums it up!
  5. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’m nearly 100% certain that someone else hadn’t detected there since the last time I was there. In fact I’ve never seen another person detecting in my town. However a few weeks back a fellow much older than me saw me detecting and came up and said he had an equinox 600 and he loved detecting. Also judging by the number of silver coins I have dug from this spot I’d have to say it hadn’t been hit much before me.
  6. Thanks for the reply Bob. I may be misunderstanding what you mean in your third paragraph, but if you mean that I’m getting the gummies from a friend or off the black market, I’m not. I buy them at one of the many local CBD/hemp stores in my town. They’re widely available and 100% legal.
  7. I haven’t been posting much because I’ve been hitting the same old sites over and over hoping that maybe I missed something. Yesterday, for lack of any new sites, I hit a smallish site that I’ve probably hit a dozen times before. However yesterday I took half of a delta9 cbd gummy before I went. Just some background on me: I’m 60, but have had some health issues in the past. Open heart surgery to get a new aortic valve at 49, a bad infection that put me in the hospital for 6 days at 54, then 30 sessions of head and neck radiation for squamous cell cancer in one of my lymph nodes in my neck (yes, squamous cell doesn’t just attack your skin, it can be internal). That was two years ago and around the same time or a little before my sciatic nerve would cause me pain. It still bothers me and has gotten somewhat worse but I deal with it. Believe it or not I’m in very good shape. I either ride my bike or walk to work every day no matter what the weather. About a half mile each way. I also lift weights twice a week. I used to do body weight exercises like pushups, pull ups, abs, etc and did 63 non-paused pushups on my 59th birthday. Got a total of 72 with pauses at the top. I don’t rely on prescription drugs…I take no prescriptions or over the counter pain meds. However, I recently discovered the delta9 CBD gummies for my sciatica pain. They work well, BUT they will get you high, similar to smoking pot. Taking half works well for my sciatic pain but the “high” is more of a very focused mental state. Btw, I’m 5’10” and weigh 160 so if you weigh more you may not get the same effect. That very focused mental state is what brings me to those 8 wheaties. I’m just blown away that I could have missed that many before because I’m pretty focused even when I’m not taking gummies😄! Could it have been my gummy induced mental state? I’m thinking maybe so. Oh, and Steve, if you feel this is an inappropriate subject please delete.
  8. I’m pretty sure Loren is a member here. His detector videos are very educational as to the physics of how detectors work. To be honest, I trust his videos more than anyone else’s.
  9. Thanks Rick! There are state gamelands I’m pretty sure I could detect on. It’s just finding those old homesites if there even are any in my area. I’ve pored over old topos trying to find something.
  10. I guess moderation is the key to any hobby. Everyone needs time to themselves…some more than others. I’m 60 and have three kids aged 13, 13 and 15. It’s a balancing act getting my alone time in along with time with my kids. (My wife and I are separated so we alternate weeks with the kids. We actually get along better now.) Every other weekend I’m free to do whatever I wish.
  11. I feel like I’m in rut as far as detecting goes. I don’t have any permissions and all of my public sites have been hit hard by me. Yesterday I decided to hit an old ballfield from the 1940s that I’ve been to twice before. Once I got there I quickly remembered why I’ve only detected it twice before. The dirt has been moved around and probably more dirt added as the edge of the outfield is higher than the adjacent field. But even if fill is brought in and moved around there’s still the chance of a coin not getting buried too deeply. Right behind second base is where I got the 1954 rosie. I also got two or three wheats and the two foreign coins. One is 1977 and I can’t get a date off the larger one. As I made my way back to the car I got the old makeup compact in the adjacent field. Once I found that, I randomly detected that field and not finding anything else old, I quit for the day. Yesterday I hit a large park that’s not old although I did find a silver rosie the last time I was there. Today I was in jewelry mode and had the D2 in Sensitive Full Tones. I left it stock other than turning the silencer down to 2 and sensitivity up to 95. I varied the reactivity from 1.5-3. First thing was the compass pendant. It’s stainless and rang up a solid 57. Next was the earring and I don’t remember what TID it came in at, but in the bright sun it looked like gold. Once I got home and cleaned it up it’s marked YGF 925 CHINA. I’m guessing ygf stands for yellow gold filled. I then got the silver clasp and try as I might I couldn’t find the chain. I even used gold mode on the D2 and dug everything in about a 20’ radius from where I dug the clasp. So that rosie puts me at 3 for the year. Unless I happen upon a good permission, I don’t see me getting more than 10-12 silvers this year, but you never know. Lol
  12. Nice finds Jeff! Gotta love a big silver ring!! Do remember the TID on it? 96-97?
  13. I don’t have a facebook account either.
  14. I hope y’all know that the best detector is the one I’m using😉
  15. I thought most of California had snow right now. And yes, the D2 in fast program can definitely pick out the coins. Congrats on the 7 wheats….might still be a silver lurking somewhere there.
  16. You know what you’re getting from me right? HELL YEAH!!! I save the all caps hell yeahs for those super extra special finds! Damn, I’m jealous. Lol!
  17. Love that silver button! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a solid silver button posted before. Rare find indeed!
  18. Congrats on the button and the merc! I’ve dug mercs more beat up than that one!
