  1. I use a custom General program.  I call it Gcoin3. It uses a lot of notching and as the name suggests, it’s for finding coins and uses 3 tones.  Here’s my settings:

    disc:  7

    sens:  95. But can vary

    iron volume:  3

reactivity:  1.5.  But can also vary depending on the amount of trash. I feel 1.5 is a good starting point for deep silver coins in areas that aren’t really trashy.

tones:  3 as the name implies

B cap reject:  0.  Most areas I dig don’t have a lot of bottlecaps.

    silencer:  0

    notch 1:  7-57

notch2:  66-80. You can raise the higher number to 87 if you’re strictly cherry picking for silver coins but you’ll miss indian head pennies and maybe some smaller silver coins like half dimes and such.  I’ve never dug a half dime so I’m just guessing that it would come in lower than 87.  Also the nickel window of 58-65 will get some gold also.

So I was detecting at the same park I found a old silver capped bust dime.  Seen a dude I know who just talks to much and didn’t want this guy following me around like a puppy dog.  I got in my car unseen to him, and went to another area.

Looked like original ground, finding square nails in this area.  Using equinox 800 with the 10 by 5 coil using Andy’s coin program but not discriminating anything, iron bias 0, recovery speed was 8. Gain 22.  Found this, was about 9-10 inches down.  Looks like a large cent?

Thanks for any input anyone may give.

I dug one similar to yours, hole and all.  Mine does have enough detail to assure it’s a large cent.

    A. 5 silver day including jewelry is getting rarer each passing year. Good hunting! HH jim tn

That’s the truth!   Permissions to private residences are hard to get and the public areas are pretty much hunted out.  Sometimes I’ll luck upon a place that hasn’t been hit hard, but it’s rare.

  4. Since I bought the deus II, it’s been my primary detector.  In fact, since I got it, I’ve only put maybe 5 or 6 hours on my nox 800.  I usually keep the 6” on the nox but last weekend I hunted a “retired” golf course and used the nox with the 11” coil (to get more coverage) for the last two hours of the hunt.  It had been so long since I had used it that I forgot how to ground balance it and had to look it up on my phone!  😂  Anyways, I hit the small front yard of the clubhouse with the D2 and pulled 8 wheaties, went over it again with the nox and got zilch.  Now that I’m very familiar with the D2, I’m loving it and the nox feels bulky and like an old friend that I haven’t seen for years.  If I decide to get a new manticore I’ll probably sell the nox.  I just can’t see me managing 3 different detectors and being proficient with all three.  Heck, I have two Tesoro compadres and a mojave that I never use and really need to sell.

  5. I hardly ever look at the clock on my remote, mainly because I need bifocals but refuse to get them.   Anyways, I noticed today that the time was way off.  I know it was correct about a couple of months ago.  I had checked it back then because I had read (I think on this forum) that someone else had noticed their clock not keeping time.  When I checked it then it was correct within a minute of the time on my phone. Has anyone else had this problem and did figure out what was causing the clock to be off?  I just reset the time and will check it in a day or two and see if it’s still accurate.

I’m also posting a pic of my latest silver find.

  6. I’m disappointed to hear you had to pay shipping both ways.  From what I can recall, any warranty issue on anything I’ve ever had to send in, I paid shipping to the company and they paid shipping back to me.  There may have been a time or two where the company paid both ways, but I don’t ever remember a time where I paid both ways.  Shame on XP!

Thanks Cap'n. 🙂 It's a thin, small target that a lot of detectors would probably miss in all that junk. Shows the capability of the D2 IMHO.

This isn't much of a hunt, but at least there is something of interest. 🤣 Just so @NCtoad doesn't feel alone. 😁 I'm glad to see he braved the heat a few times. 🏆

A unique silver ring is much, much better than a 1939 merc!   Lol!

Heh, I've gotten so bored with my finds I'm treating Matchbox cars like vintage relics, posting dates and such. Your hunts show me all I'm missing 😏 I really admire your organization of finds and persistence, and very often you dig things I can only dream of finding!

Any Hallmark on that knife? 🤣 Seriously, if it's made in the USA it could be worth something, or not... 🤔

Honestly I'm glad anyone else on the forum is posting hunts and stories. I love new detectors but it always devolves. 🙄 I miss @dogodog@NCtoad, @ROCKINGCM, and many others. I'm wondering if the usual summer beach/relic hunters are not finding much? Like me? 😅

I’m still around and still detecting but not finding much to post about.  I’ve gotten a few silver coins over the past few weeks but nothing special just mercs and a war nickel.  It’s been so hot that getting out is more of a chore than fun.

    PLEASE bare  with me:

    1.   I have a perfectly good  White's XLT Spectrum (1999), keeping it
for now.   I set several custom programs on it years ago but  prefer
to get something  "not so advanced"   where owner has to set many manual
    settings.

    2.  I have a  new  Garrett's  AT Gold  on the way.  It can be returned.   But I'm looking for something to "possibly"  replace the  XLT that can not only do it all but  detect small gold deposits.

    3.   Nokta Legend::  Listed as  "Advanced"  machine.   2 rechargable battery packs.  Wireless headphone.    None of this appeals to me.  I don't mind a  wired headphone.   AND  the XLT  is still  a machine with so many  variable settings that I choose not to change what I programmed over the years.   I have had bad  luck  with  any  company's  proprietary  batterys and rechargable batteries in general.    My White's  battery packs finally died and are no longer available, so  run AA batteries and am much happier with throw aways.   And THINK:  How  does one  "Plug in"  a charger when in deep woods?   Carrying extra AA batteries is  a  no-brainer.      However, 2 pluses for the Legend are  backlit and  audio  tones.   AA batteries are one big plus for  ordering the  Garrett AT Gold.

    4. Moving to  Equinox 800:    Praised for its pin-pointer (I love the XLT  pin-pointer).   Top reviews are many.   BUT.........lithium ion rechargable and only  ONE  (I assume proprietary)  battery comes with it at that.    I see "Beginner"  friendly.  That appeals to me because I truly don't want to go through the  arduous  learning curve the  XLT  presented to me  23 years ago when new.

So  decisions, decisions.     my plans were to run the  AT Gold and sell the Spectrum  IF  the  AT Gold  "might" take it's place and be a better choice for small nugget shooting.

OR................ keep either the AT Gold  OR  XLT  and maybe get the  Equinox 800  too.     I just don't want to get stuck in deep woods overnight with a  dead  detector battery.

AND:  I see the  Minelab GoldMonster uses my preferred  AA batteries, and is listed as  "Gold"  and  Beginner friendly.  Would it detect coins too?   I won't rule it out as if it will fits for a purpose, I'm willing to go to $950  it sells for.
I could  keep one all-purpose machine and one which specializes in gold??

IF I have not totally scrambled your  brains as I have my own,  what would you do?

Thanks for putting up with me,   "Bo"

If you’re worried about rechargeable lithium batteries, my opinion is don’t.  Lol.  I’ve had my nox since it’s introduction and it’s been charged many, many times over the past four years and the battery still holds a charge for longer than I can detect in one day.  I can’t imagine how much money recharging that battery would have saved me if the nox had been made to use throw-away AA batteries.  Of course you could buy rechargeable AAs, but then you’re back to not only recharging batteries, but having to put them in and out.

If you are still worried about draining the battery on the nox while out in the field, you can buy a rechargeable lithium battery pack and run your nox off of that by strapping the battery under the arm cuff and using the magnetic charging cable.

One more point:   If you do happen to wear out the battery in your nox, you can buy a replacement and from the videos I’ve seen, it’s an easy, straightforward replacement.

  10. I lost my backup pinpointer a couple of weeks ago and have been thinking I would get an MI6.  However after reading through this thread I think I’ll either wait until  XP fixes the pairing problems or until my TRX dies and I’m forced to get something else.

The two mini USB connectors on the 3 way cable and the cable for use with the WS6 puck are the same size and type = Mini USB. The difference is the actual exposed lengths of the connectors. The connector on the single lead is definitely a bit longer.........so I am not sure where the USB B and C reference is coming from. The connectors will both fit well in the WS6 port.

Where the confusion is for me (or XP may need a different English language translator/proofreader) is what is printed in the manual and the included Erratum single sheet that came with my Deus 2. The Erratum pages shows using the single lead cable for charging and data update of the WS6 as opposed to the manual showing updating the WS6 with the single lead cable on page 30 and charging the WS6 with the 3-way cable on page 38.

Deus 1s used the 3 way cable for charging the RC and the WS4. The single lead cable was for data update of the RC but I used it for charging it too.

So, who knows.........I have charged my WS6 with the 3 way and the single lead and they both seem to work fine for just charging the WS6.

You’re spot on Jeff.  Going from memory, I thought it was clearly stated in the manual that the puck could be charged with either cable (three way or single), but to update you could only use the single cable.  I think the erratum was just making it known that you could use the single cable not just to update but that it could also be used as a charging cable. BTW, both of the cables fit snugly in the port on the puck and I haven’t had a single issue with the puck not pairing with the remote when I turn it on.  Knock on wood.  Lol!  I did have a problem with pairing after doing one of the updates, but once I paired it manually all was fine.
