I found a late 1800's racetrack in a situation similar to yours. I used historicmapworks.com and found it on an 1876 map. I then used google earth to do a semi-transparent image overlay to find the exact location.

Under water is a must for him Steve. Vanquish line can't be submerged. Barry, Hit one of the clubs mentioned and talk to the locals before buying. Maybe they'll allow you to take their detectors for a spin.

The Carrot is fine, so was the black Garrett pointer when I owned them. I've got two Fisher FPulses that smoke the Garretts. (Carl killed it with his pin-pointer and he knows it.) I recently got the new Nokta Accupoint included in a Legend package. I've only used it twice so I don't have any real experience with it yet. May sell it if I still prefer the FPulse. The jury is still out.

Couple Of Field Coins.

Oooooo man!! I know what we call bucket lists now a days has devolved into just a simple checklist, but that 20c is an absolute bucket lister. -
I'm not one to get hung up on "absolutes". Out of ground tests are not all bogus, nor are they righteous. Test gardens are not all bogus, nor are they righteous. Some tests have merit, others are not applicable to real world. "Train as you fight" is understandable, but shooting at paper targets on a range is also a bit different from real world. Some of the stuff Monte came up with on his nail board test really helped detectorists understand recovery speed and masking on a 2D plane. Like many of you I do disregard the tests where shill's have a preconceived conclusion and then set up very specific tests to make themselves look smart, or make a product appear to be something it's not. Confirmation bias is very obvious to people that are solely looking for impartial information.

I've had an Impact for a long time and still love it. I've got a handful of coils for it as well. I'll never part with it. One of my buddies has a Legend. If I was starting all over again and only choosing between these 2 I'd buy the Legend. It has adjustable iron bias and recovery speed, SMF, waterproof, higher single freq when needed, better in minerals, more options to avoid EMI. If you're ONLY talking about raw power in a non-mineralized environment...I'll put my Impact with the 13" Mars Discovery coil up against any VLF. Especially when looking at cost.

Equinox 6" Coil Falsing On The Edge Worse That The 11" Coil

Thanks for the 2-tone info Mark. I've been using 50 tone and horseshoe on almost exclusively lately. -
Equinox 6" Coil Falsing On The Edge Worse That The 11" Coil
dave_e replied to dave_e's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
@JCR Getting the edge falsing on all passes until I rotate and shrink the sweep until it's a tight and tiny wiggle. Actually tickling the target. It's doable but time consuming. @Lynk Equinox 600 -
I prefer the 6" to the 11" coil in the trash, but it falses on the edge of the coil considerably more than the 11". I'm getting used to it but it's taking a lot longer to verify signals. I'm already going slower because of the coil size. Anyone come up with settings/adjustments to decrease the coil edge falsing?

Not meant to derail, but a quick side-bar please. @EL NINO, Can you run that small coil on the Atrex in multi-freq? I thought I read it should only be run in single frequency? If it works, does it work well or have problems? If so I need to test it against my Equinox running the 6" coil in multi-freq, and I may have never purchased the small Equinox coil.

The narrowing of the detection field toward the bottom of the "cone" allows concentric coils to better separate targets closer to their depth limit. Example I know a junk ridden place that has desirable targets 6-7" deep. With a 6" DD coil, it sees more area (more targets) at it's depth limits. With a 6" concentric, it's pointy field at it's depth limit allows me to better isolate individual targets at that depth. This requires extreme patience though. Low, slow, and tons of overlapping sweeps or you'll miss a lot because of the "pointy detection field". I don't see DD or concentric coils as a replacement for one another, rather an additional detection method to use.

New Rutus Detector Announced

Any news on the software update for the Atrex? -
I knelt down hard and thought I broke my knee cap. Turned out to be an acorn, but hurt like ?!@#$ 😅 Since then I've ALWAYS worn knee pads. I'm a big guy and have been through 10-15 types/brands. These are the best I've ever used. They have a hard shell. They also have wide straps that don't go behind your knee. One strap goes around your thigh and the other around your calf. They have the rugged, gel filled fabric on the inside and are really comfortable. Best knee pads

As I posted on Dankowski.... WOW. 😲

I could never use a Vanquish because it ONLY has multi-iq. No other options. Many times EMI is so bad you must exit multi-iq and go into a single frequency.

What Influences Your New Detector Purchase?

2 things influence my purchases... Will it fit well, or fill a void, with my other detectors. Is it enjoyable to use. -
New Rutus Detector Announced
dave_e replied to xawi29's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I LOVE the Atrex's performance and features, but the only waterproof machine I have is the Equinox and it's old. I'm afraid to dunk it since it's out of warranty by a few years. Maybe I'll sell the Atrex and try out the Versa. bigtime1973, you can buy them from an overseas dealer and have them shipped to the states. That's how I got my Atrex. -
What Difference Does 1khz Have On The Equinox From 5khz To 4khz?
dave_e replied to RickUK's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I have a site that's another example of EMI reduction by moving from 5kHz to 4kHz. Electric dog fence around the perimeter of a yard. Neither Impact or Equinox can run at 5kHz. Completely unusable. Regardless of frequency shift, noise cancel, or coil size. I can run the Equinox at 4 though if I noise cancel. -
Not Much Interest In USA Units Lately
dave_e replied to bigtim1973's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Thanks for bringing this up Steve. I enjoy my Equinox and Atrex but it's one reason I keep my Nokta Impact. 4 different REAL all-metal modes, both motion and non-motion.
