Hi Lunk... Nice Franconia finds.... I agree the 7000 is an excellent detector for meteorite hunting. I was hunting a new strewn field not to long ago, (about 20 miles actually from where you were in Franconia) and the 7000 was the one to find a nice piece, there were about 6-7 others that had vlf's and skunked. I have also found some nice large pieces in gold basin, that I know I have gone over with the 5000, but the 7000 sang nice and loud on it... Dave.

I believe Minelab is sueing XP metal detectors (over wireless detector and pinpointer applications).

Steve, I wonder what thread Minelabs new Monster detector will fall in, I heard it will have different frequency's to select from???? A lot of times they will have demos at the gold shows, like they do during minelab conferences... Dave

They have the small gps trackers for bikes, its like the size of a coin, its called the Trakr Bravo, but you need to be in the city for it to work affective, but I bet if you had one in the machine, you could have tracked it by now... but like myself Im lazy, and would not do it, or forget to change/ charge the battery... Fred, also select all your waypoints (checkbox), then select file in upper left hand corner, then save as.

One of the major issues I had with the atlas support, I was getting it snagged, if I went into brushy areas it always snagged. The Coiltek skyhook should have gone with fiberglass rods, your right on setting the detector off with metal. Minelabs pro swing harness, I can use it all day, and my arm still feels good. Wish they put a hydropack on it though.... Dave

Hi Chris, No wish I could of attended, but didn't get an invite :(.... Sounds like a bunch of great folks went. I did not hear about the shoulder sky hook, but funny you mention the sky hook. If it's anything like the picture, I used one on the 5000 when it first came out using the Atlas support. But to me the pro swing harness by minelab is much better. I also heard about the new coil for the ctx 3030, which will be nice. Dave

Google earth is good for locating faults, mineralized zones, ect.... another neat trick I use is overlay Bing Aerial maps on google earth, you will see so much more, that google earth colors dont show... Dave

Hey Chris, Good to hear it was a fun time and success, I did not have to sign a paper, so I could spill a little of the beans.... seems a new gold detector called the monster is coming out... It will be under $1,000 , possibly a VLF??? Also new handheld probes, ect... but no new big gold detectors above the 7000.... Really stinks since there was an aftermarket coil company there, that they cannot make any aftermarket coils for the GPZ... wish Minelab could release the info so different coils could be made. Dave

Got to get out today with a friend today for a few hours, I dont think I have been that wet since I was 18. Managed to squeek out 3 nuggets for a little over 4 grams total before heading back home. Gotta admit the ZED held up pretty good being soaked hunting in the rain.... Dave

Got out today to the Pahrump / Johnnie NV area today. Still new to the GPZ , since selling the GPX 5000 not to long ago. But learning from everyone here sharing their experiences and settings on the GPZ got me on top of a little gold today. I have to say, Im pretty impressed with this machine. Its got me on some good gold and meteorites in the short time Ive had it. Dave

Rege, I love using the display on the CTX 3030, most of the time while the machine is discriminating and blanking the sound out on iron and trash, the display will show a coin or something good most of the time, if it is near the trash on the display. But your right on machines that dont have them, a display, even light like Jin Shows, for the hearing impaired would be great !!! I saw these new type of headphones here in Las Vegas CES show, that dont actually go in your ears, but rest on your face near your ears and use your skull for sound, would be interesting to see how well these work... even leaves your ears free to hear those darn rattlesnakes, or your surroundings. Hi Brian, Thanks for the testing.... My main coil for years on the GPX 5000 was the 12X15 commander, that coil has some great punching power, and heavy for its size. But like Steve says, it would not do to good on Specimen gold, but the GPZ I have now, and been finding out, is a killer on the Speci gold.... Jason, I have been finding some large meteorites with the GPZ that the GPX would not even hear, and they are only a few inches down, not to deep. Just neat to hear the different scenario's everyone has. I love comparisons, especially on video.... keep em coming guys.. Dave.
