Comparing The Evolution 17x13 To The GPZ 7000
DolanDave replied to jasong's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Jason, Your philosophy of hunting fast is exactly how I like to hunt.... I started doing the exact same thing, when I ran into someone out in the desert a while ago who showed me his finds, by detecting as fast as he can with a larger coil. He found twice the amount of gold in 1 weekend, than I found in 1 month. If your into finding more gold, this is the way to do it. Another recent discovery is to hunt areas that have no indication of gold being found, only to discover a nice patch. ( A good place for this is eroded out ancient areas) 9 out of 10 times its the ol skunkaroo... But that 1 time will pay off more than the last year or two in known gold areas. Just like Vegas, the odds are slowly starting to turn by using some of these methods. Dave -

I use All in one Offline Maps, as a lot of times I'm in areas with no cell. This app allows you to download aerials, and topos to view in real time when prospecting in remote areas. Dave.

Half Day Hunt For Gold N Meteorite
DolanDave replied to DolanDave's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Mike, They dont make these boots anymore, quit about 2-3 years ago they are made by Wellco, signature hot weather series, composite toe, and I put a composite insert in them to prevent pesky cholla from poking through. Every now and then you can find them online... https://www.amazon.com/Wellco-Mens-Weather-Signature-Boot/dp/B003CC01CK -

Half Day Hunt For Gold N Meteorite
DolanDave replied to DolanDave's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Thanks everyone, Bado- I got a cheap HD action camera on ebay for $50, it comes with all the accessories a gopro comes with, and has great video. -
Got out for a half day hunt to Gold Basin early before getting to hot. Found a small nugget and a puzzle piece meteorite that I put back together, as shown in picture. Enclosing a video also... The early mornings sure are a perfect 80 degrees, but once that sun comes out the temp rises fast... Dave.

Chris Ben, I also live in Vegas, and have been hunting Gold Basin since 2002. Your best bet, is to get away from any dirt roads, and do some hiking way out. Like Vegas odds, you will have a higher chance of finding something on the less traveled path. Easy to get to places have been hunted over 1000 times. Also I have had more luck finding nuggets on bedrock, than benches in Gold Basin. Dave

Bring that thing to Glorieta NM and look for some huge buried meteories. Dave.

Prospecting Picks
DolanDave replied to Grass Valley Buck Master's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I have been using Bunks Hermit Pick, very lightweight, yet strong, has a nice wide spade, made by a local prospector. Dave -
With GPR added in with the PI, you can see the dips in the bedrock.... I think incorporated for a more civilian use, it can be pretty beneficial... Check out the coil, now that will be revolutionary...

With Minelabs military contract to develop a new advanced prototype detector within 3 years, it would be interesting to see if they will model new civilian detectors from this? Dave..

Current owners wishing to upgrade their existing detector should contact their local Minelab office for upgrade options and pricing. I hope this is a free option !!! , I paid good money for this detector, and just like a vehicle recall, should be replaced by minelab if there is a flaw. Thanks for showing this... Dave

1515art, If you found a possible meteorite in Rye Patch area, it is highly likely it is a meteorite. There has been tons found around the Rye area. Dave

Mike, I downloaded it a while ago, when they first introduced it. Don't know if you already have this for google earth, but also look at downloading overlays for it, such as topo, hydrology, geology, and bing aerial ( gives clearer/ different resolution), and there are several more.... Dave.
