  1. Hi Geelong guy,

I learned the hard way, metal detecting by myself in known gold area's till I found my first nugget about 1 year later.... Best advice, is to metal detect, drywash, or whatever way your hunting for gold, is to get out with an experienced person, whos willing to show and teach you.  Wish I did that myself. If you offer to pay for gas, lunch ect... Im sure an experienced person in your area would be willing to take you under their wing for a little bit, most of the prospectors on here,  and know are awesome guys !!!

    Take Care,

    Dave.

Good they got what they deserved I’d imagine the level of nefarious behavior they partook runs deeper than we can imagine, sorry about most all your stuff being stolen twice, by other prospectors wtf.

Few weeks ago I was driving on hideout road just off pierce ferry stopped to air Down and an older couple stopped to tell me the sheriff was looking for a blue stolen ford truck with a black tool box, probably work by the same group. After I‘M done walking around for the day it’s always nice to see the Jeep still where I parked it.

    1515Art,

I was also approached by a deputy and investigator looking for the same guy... Weird how they found me, their helicopter hovered 50 feet above me, till the deputy showed up....

Jason, glad the guy is dead.... sorry for your losses on all your stuff, it sucks, been there done that in Dolan (Stolen) Springs...

  3. Sounds like a successful trip Mitchel.... thanks for the post. If you or anyone else has found small iron like meteorites in Gold Basin, that look and act just like a Franconia iron, do not toss them, thinking this is not a typical Gold Basin Meteorite, as they are a pretty rare type of stony iron meteorite called a Mesosiderite. Myself and others have been finding them over the years, and mapping them. They scream on the detector, and snap to a magnet just like a Franconia Iron. Jim Kriegh, the founder of Gold Basin meteorites found and classified the first one in Gold Basin, as you can see from the metbul.

  4. Sorry to hear Jason,

If I get back out that way, I will keep an eye out. I know the feeling, had my travel trailer burned down, everything stolen, and my storage in Dolan Springs broke into 2 times. Meth heads getting crazy out there...

    Dave,

Is this Treasure Talk the source for your chart, and if so, the software update according to ML fixed the ground balance issues...or did it?

"With the update, we have improved the ground tracking so that the detector is much less susceptible to the typical events that will cause the tracking to deviate from the ideal level."

"detecting your pick will still cause an audio response but it won't impact the tracking."

"there will no longer be a need to continually re-ground balance with the ferrite, unless perhaps moving to a completely new area."

The more I read about GB, the more confused I become! Really appreciate JP's posts.

    Bill,

The pic was from the Minelab website, just as you show in your link. I agree with what JP says in the beginning of this post :

"I also recommend users adopt the GB configured to their USER button approach and to go into Manual mode when checking deep targets or committing to dig, leaving the GPZ in Semi-Auto will allow the GB to drift either through exposure to the pick whilst digging or just general drift through the coil not moving, either way the GB will be out which is not obvious unless you pump the coil. "
    JP

The update seemed to make the detector more stabalized with the semi auto mode in my opinion, as that is what I always use, but I notice it still drifts a little, I will have to rebalance with ferrite maybe every 2-3 hours. But it could just be different soil conditions, EMI (which I notice increases during the day), Saturation, Pick, Coil not moving,  blah, blah blah,  who Knows for sure ???? I get like you, more confused, as more things are introduced....

One thing I was experiencing a lot on the Yellow T-130 ferrite ring, was it would still sound off a little when balancing to it (It would not dissipate out all the ferrite noise) , then I moved to another Ferrite that was in Minelabs specs, and it works great so far. Just personal experiences, Im sharing...
