  1. Been doing some thinking on the new Fisher CZX, they say 9-1 frequency ratio, well why not build it at least say 71 khz high frequency with a low of 7.88khz frequency, so it mimics the Gold Bug 2 for tiny gold detection with its high freq, or even better do 80khz high and 8.88 khz low freq if its possible to do in the electronics. We all know the success of the GB2 over other vlf detectors due to this high khz. Deus seems to be coming out with a high freq coil of 80 khz elliptical soon which I think is a great idea. However their detector is single freq, so the CZX should possibly be able to walk all over the Deus for deeper gold as well as grain size gold at the surface, between the two freqs working at the same time and the new form of ground balance they speak of.
  2. A coil at over 4 lbs is gonna be a rough swing! That is heavy.
  3. A new detector with a non-electromagnetic ground balance system would be what your looking for. Fisher claims to be working on something sounds similar right now. Maybe a digital ground filter, just guessing on that? Would not affect depth of targets like normal ground balance methods do in hot soils.
  4. This is slightly off topic but same family of detectors, when I use my MXT Pro at Rye Patch I run in Relic mode with two tones and just a tad of disc maybe 1/2 to 1 on the disc dial. Much more stable than prospect mode and works for me. That chirp it gives on good targets really gets my attention.
  5. I would seriously consider a 2007-2010 Tacoma TRD 4x4 LB over a jeep with the money your talking about spending. You can have the best of both worlds, on road and offroad, 19-20 mpg freeway and towing my 17 ft travel trailer 13.5-14 mpg, I have a mild lift on mine mainly for more stability when towing our 17 ft travel trailer on curvy mountain roads, Rancho Quicklift with RS9000 adj shocks set to 7, stock tires size but 8 ply with 3 ply carcass, bfg TA/KO's, you will have far less down time or fixit stuff, mainly just routine mantainence with a Tacoma or 4Runner, and 300K is not unusual. Rear springs on these can cause problems but I added Supersprings right after buying the truck and its been very versitile and tows well, yet rides good unloaded.
  6. Hard Prospector, actually I am holding off buying hoping for that new CZX Fisher detector in hopes it will replace my GB2. No rush since the GB2 works. I have fallen on my GB2, and it also survived a fall attached to my CT110, it keeps on ticking!!! Makes you wonder if these new detectors are built well enough to be around in another 20 yrs??
  7. What interests me with this new Au Gold Finder is the tracking and auto ground balancing, I use a GB2 now for small gold, I tire quickly rebalancing ever couple feet in hot ground when detecting, I would also like to know if the au gold finder can easily detect a one grain nugget ? Right now a 1 grain nugget is worth 2.81, so worth picking up!!! I have no problem at all with detecting one grain nuggets using the GB2 detector just hate the constant thumbing of the ground balance knob ever few ft to keep it in balance.
  8. Its always nice when any of the guys in our group bring along nuggets they have found in the past to have a look at in camp, use for testing coils, detectors, etc. I never tire of looking at nuggets.
  9. The CZX nugget detector Dave Johnson is working on is of great interest to me. I want something lightweight and high tech to replace my Gold Bug 2, after just getting back from 5 days at rye patch last week, had the GB2 bunjee'd to my Honda CT110, it fell over in camp maybe critter tunnels under the stand, had tested but after couple hrs it fell, squashing the armrest cuff and bent the main upper shaft, popped the main box off the shaft, managed to straighten the armrest cuff but the main upper shaft is done for, was able to use it for the remainder of the trip, found this 4.9 grain nugget with it. Full of calcite still but was almost totally covered on outside with calcite as well to start with, cleaned it up a bit. Left as is, afraid it may come apart if I acid dip the rest out.
  10. I am waiting on the new Nugget Finder Evo mono 14x9 coil, I also have the 14" Elite mono, which works great,it truly gets 1-2 more inches on gram size nuggets at extreme depth, over stock type coils of similar size.
  11. I am placing a lot of hope in this new Fisher CZX detector since its got a new type ground balance system, maybe digital ground noise filter or whatever, this will break the depth barrier for the vlf type detectors using the current ground balance sytem, plus you will be able to swing multiple times over a tiny nugget without ground balancing it out. Add to that dual freqs of 5khz and 45khz I bet its gonna be a gold getter. Lightweight, no learning curve, it could be a real winner.
  12. I would like to see some indepth testing of the new Coiltek 11" mono Elite coil, doesn't seem to be much about it on the forums yet.
  13. So many decisions this coming detecting yr for different machines coming out, I was hot for the Gold Racer, til I saw the rumors about Fisher and a CZX with new technology, and Whites possibly coming out with a new tech pi/hybrid similar to gpz in technology. Think I i will just kick back and see what all comes out before late spring before I buy again. I am going to replace my gpx4000 and maybe the GB2 also before this next season.
  14. I bailed on my gpx4000 this fall when I started seeing 4500's priced so low new, which is driving down all older minelab machine prices in the used segment. I was going to upgrade to either a 4500 or 5000, however I think with all this news of new technology coming out soon, I will wait on buying a deep nugget detector for awhile, heck its winter anyway. The CZX sounds very interesting. I think Whites is also working on releasing some new tech soon, there was a leak on the aussie forums about a new Whites machine being tested over there recently, so like Steve says there are exciting times ahead in 2016. Its looking like I may be able to upgrade my Gold Bug II as well before spring.
  15. A buddy of mine that hunts jewelry/coins heavy in the parks bought a similar tester a couple yrs back, he didn't care for it too much, resold it. He is sticking with the acid/scratch test kits.
  16. That is a great assortment of coils available, the concentric being hard to find anymore for our current vlf gold detectors yet a very effective coil in some areas. They thought of most everything it appears. Great detector company! I will probably be buying one before spring.
  17. Did you notice any more depth to the racer on small gold over the older GB2? Or are they about the same?
  18. I use the winter months to hunt new areas on the satellite, catch up on latest equipment available and buy some if I can afford it, , weed out some equipment on CL. etc.
  19. Something that may be of interest I just ran across on a Aussie nugget forum!! Sounds like Whites may be coming out soon with a new pi of their own that will compete with the rest!! https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14297
  20. I have the new 14" Elite coil, purchased it in May of this yr. and have done some extensive testing in ground this summer in N. Nevada, the coiltek ads are true, I was able to get 1-2 inches more depth on a 1.3 gram nugget, over using a 15x12 commander minelab coil on same detectors. We tested a 4000 and a 5000 with the elite and the 15x12 commander on same target at same depth. No actual gold finds yet in the field with the Elite, since I have not hunted many hours with it. They will come when I am able to put the time in. The 14" Elite is pretty heavy for extended use, I am looking forward to buying at least one smaller Elite coil in the future, hopefully they will build a 8" round, there is an 11" Elite coming out early November.
  21. I carry good quality tire plugs and applicator tool with large can of glue, 12v compressor, upper and lower rad hoses, serpentine belt, thermostat, rad cap, xtra antifreeze, full set tools, and more.
  22. Like Boulder Dash I will be using the Gold Bug 2 for tiny gold, GPX4000 and 4 coils for mid to deep gold, Mxt Pro for coins/jewelry, also been playing with the mxt in gold country for tiny surface nuggets, but continue to revert to the GB2 for the tiny stuff so far. Got a new 4.5" round DD Detech coil to test this yr on the mxt for tiny nuggets.
