  1. Anyone got the low down on the estimated availability? Thanks, Andy. Minelab Equinox search coils - 15" x 12" DD, 11" round DD, 6" round DD
  2. Hello you lovely buggers, i need some advice please. Just got the permission of a life time. 4 HUGE UK fields in a historic area. The main focus is on field number 1, which is plughed soil, very loose and easy to dig and the nox finished its Ground balance at 7. Nox was hitting a lot of iron which i could see silently appearing on the display as -9, -7, -3 etc....... , and was getting loads of iffy signals. Sorta like 21 mixed with -9 etc and lots of one way chrips. Maybe lots of masking going on. I did recover a load of buttons and 2 defaced silver coins, which chirped up smoothly and effectively. Here were my settings. Iron bias 0 Sensitivity 23 Field 1 Discrimination -9 to +2. All metal Recovery 4. Can this program be improved upon? Maybe higher iron bias? Your expertise would be massively appreciated. \Andy.
  3. Its a tricky game at first, like riding a bike. You fall off a few times and get very angry. You throw the bike down protesting you'll never ride the damn thing again. But next day after a dust off your back out there, and after a relatively short period of time, your off and riding like a champ .... and loving it. So.... If the Nox "machine guns" the ground, you know the detector is doing the business, not the other way round. The trouble sometimes arises when you have an area in mind to detect, you envisage finding all sorts of lovely treasures, only to find when you get there, that its full of junk. Where there's people there's lost items, and those items include all the s*it. Discrimination on the nox is AWESOME I can knock out 1 pennies, 2 penny's, ring-pulls, foil, slaw, beaver tails, coal etc etc ....... and 99% of all the trash to target just silver. To me, thats just magic! However like the distinguished members above have said, Gold lies in that region where the naughty stuff hides. I'd get a good quality shovel and be prepared to dig in the regions suggested for gold. But when you find that gold, it'll all make perfect sense and you'll never forget it. Memories for life they are. best of luck out there ?
  4. Excellent explanation GB, much appreciated! Incidentally, I am a Gold and silver investor. Not the wispy, non existent paper shares, but the real tangible metals. The gold/silver weight values i am very familiar with, but the values based on collecting, date and condition not so much. I use the coin value guides here in the UK which are excellent and updated every year. The local library is invaluable for such books and considering they are free to use, it is a cherished service, and one which unfortunately is diminishing due to our techno crazed culture. Put it this way, i would be out with my picket in hand demonstrating if they ever threatened its continuation. However i digress (which is usually the case:-) Here comes my soap box again > BUT .... Its amazing really that we can go out into nature, get exercise, feel good and find stuff in the ground which has value and the potential for BIG value finds. History we can touch just blows me away! Silver is always easy to determine with the nox, as i get a variable 3 VDI indicator. The quarter was a straight up 31, but that's usually not the case compared to other silver coins, and rings. Its always a 26, 27, 28 that tells me it is a Bun-head Victoria shilling for example. Its very accurate in this regard and always gets my blood pumping when it happens. Finally, and i know im rabbiting on a little here, but your comment about 400 hours + and 3 years detecting, to only discover, or uncover a quarter astonishes me! That makes me feel my find was even more special, so thanks for sharing that. And to Jackpine, its amazing how things get lost in other countries, i'm finding Indian coins, french coins, Spanish coins, so yeah it never ceases to amaze me, and always gets me wondering how, and under what circumstances things get lost. Oh well ..... Cheers fellas, and the best of luck to you all! Andy.
  5. Hya GB, thanks for your input. "Probably from Philly if i'm not mistaken (which incidentally happens a lot)" LOL - was referring to me being mistaken, as in - I am mistaken a lot!. But i'm glad you said this, as you have given me much more up to date info regarding the minting process. Nice1 GB Your always a wealth of good info. EDIT: I am always surprised at the value of these coins. 90% silver (again if i'm not mistaken lol) and only worth under $5.00!! I dont collect primarily for the coins value, as i just like the history and look/feel of em, but saying its silver (or junk silver) I would of thought together with its age that it'd be worth a little more. > Just thinking out loud ? Cheers! ndy.
  6. Couldn't believe my luck! In a park in Hinckley that's been around since 1879, I come across a 1941 Quarter. Pinged at 31. The back story i guess goes summit like this > ,During WW2 Captain America was canoodling with Mrs Mary J Rottencrotch and dropped it whilst ....... ?? Whooooo Hoooooooo!!! Andy. EDIT: Also note, it has no minting mark indicating its location of manufacture. Probably from Philly if i'm not mistaken (which incidentally happens alot)

  8. Hello and welcome Jay! Your on my video list, thanks for that - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcHV9I1q8KCDlbNVBO2f-HA Likewise, I look forward to having a natter with you some time. All the best, Andy - UK.
  9. Hheheheee yeah those big coils wouldnt be much use on small individual coins, but deep hoards of treasure and BINGO. I ordered the 13 inch DD. I really need an ASIMO robo boy to help dig those holes!!! EDIT: Or one of those "mouse hole gadgets" used in captain america winter soldier! Film nerd alert, sorry ?
  10. To RickUK Funny you mention the Nexus MP. I have just searched the site for mentions of it, and hear i am, back on one of my old threads ? Anyhoo ..... Just bought the Nexus MP V2 with standard 13 inch coil. Mega excited! The depth capabilities seem awesome to say the least. Now i have 2 detectors in my arsenal. Andy.
  11. Yeah I hear ya Sas! I had a similar experience around a wooded trail the other day. Far too many bleeps to dig, and i found myself getting a little frustrated. I moved on to less troden paths but not much joy. Then i hit a ploughed field which bagged me 2 1900 coins, one of which was on the surface. Those deep ploughs are our best friend. I remember my first week with the nox, I was taking her to all the wrong places. Then i started doing more research, asking myself where the old fairs would be located, old parks, old anything really. I had lots of disappointments for the first few weeks, but then i started homing in on the good stuff. Anyways, good luck buddy. Andy.
  12. Hello there Dan, I congratulate you firstly on obtaining an awesome permission. Right now i'm contemplating heading out around my locality to see if i can convince some field owners. Ive done my local research and am sure there are good finds awaiting my arrival. But IMO it takes lots of courage, positivity and research before i could even think about asking them. Those finds are wonderful. A big congrats to you Dan. Andy.
  13. Howdy Sasq, How did you get on. Any decent finds?
  14. Hi and welcome Sasquatch Seems an age ago now when i first started with the nox, in truth its only been around 2 months. Out of interest, when you say your finding deep stuff, what average depth you talking of, and what do you personally consider deep. Cheers Andy.
  15. LMAO Clive! Signal-less wellies ? You've got to brand that. > Signal-less TM. Hahhahaaaaa. A few comments, first well done, and second, I thought that TV program Detectorists was rubbish. But i did like that they used minelab machines hehehe. Clive you dont know how much i want to find a bloody roman coin. As of yet no luck. Im right next to watling - street where i am. Got a permission at a hall just 300m from it. So far no joy, but have found some lovely Victorian silver. Thinkinbg about a deeper machine for just that site, got the nexus MP in mind. I hit my local library the other week too, loads of good info in there, defo the place to go after the internet research. Oh well, once again great find Clive. Andy.
  16. Hello John and welcome! Andy.
  17. Oh you lucky thing! Or should I say you .... "skilful thing" ? Semantics aside, bloody great find matey. Andy.
  18. Hi Northeast Nice link. Very creative that table. Cheers! Andy.
  19. Thanks Forever-T You chaps simply wont believe how much I have found and accumulated now! I've been targeting only silver the past 4 weeks and have 2 top notch sites ive been hitting HARD. I'm currently looking for a new job, so had lots of spare time on my hands. I'll post some pictures ASAP. Andy ?
  20. Hi Buddy, nice finds there, Question is: Are these something you would of found just as easily with the 11 inche'r though?
  21. Thanks for the replies guys. Each of you has their own style and preferences, and it has extended my possibilities, so thank you all. NSC .... That cabinet is awesome buddy! Loving that. I think ill get a coin folder instead of a cabinet until I get "lots" of nice high value coins. (One can hope) Steve H and Alluminati... Im leaning towards your "selling off" idea in regards to rings and jewellery, and collect and folder the coins I would like to collect and keep ? . And to Tometusns I like the idea of passing on my nice coins/certain finds to future "little Andy's" LOL. To Beach hunter. Yes indeedy, my coins will be organised according to date, Condition, type and metallurgy etc. Nice1. And to Phrunt .... Indeed, I have a bolt down safe that will hold "said gold/Jewellery" untill ready for sale. Input massively appreciated. Thanks kindly my detecting friends. Andy.
  22. Hi Ya'll Well im now building up a huge collection of various finds. Ive got so many British 1800 and 1900 pennies, half pennies and farthings that i dont know what to do with them all. But also some really nice silver sixpences, half crowns, florins and other nice silver coins. Other items are rings x2, musket balls, badges and roman/medievil weights. Question is, how do you lovely buggers store your finds? Be it coin cabinets, display cases or just sprawled over your desk. Do you lot keep only the best coins for display, or show everything you find? See im not sure whether to display only the cream of the crop, or enjoy everything, both the good, the bad and the down right ugly. Would love to see your collection displays, coin trays, etc and your thoughts on finds which meet either the ... "keep/throw/stash or display criteria". Hopefully you'll give me and others some ideas ...and of course inspiration ? Cheers peeps. Andy.
  23. I wish there were some available in the UK. Cant track one down at mo, and i dont fancy paying import from the states Andy..
